As a person who doesn't drink coffee - I thought the first part was legit and I was gonna tell my family to try it 😭😭😭
You can. I tend to brew my coffee with hints of nutmeg and chocolate. Just about 1/8 of a teaspoon added into the grounded coffee before allowing the water to do its thing. I find that this method allows me to have the most satisfying cup every morning.

Yep, I started laughing at "I'm Peter McKinnon an I don't know how to untie the wood handle from a Chemex." (Even though I agree that the glass handle is the neater version.) Plus, I use a V20 for my pour overs because I usually make less than a full Chemex worth.
I still love my my wood collar one. The glass one is ugly af :D

One thing to mention, the ratio of water is important. Every bean/roast is different, but a good place to start is a 1:14 ratio of coffee to water (in grams). This can be altered for each roast/bean. Otherwise great video, super entertaining as always!

Maybe I missed it but you didn't say how much water. If you're doing a 15 to 1 that would be 720 grams of water. But I liked the video and your work.

Just reminded me my father! Back in Cuba, when I was a kid, my father used to make coffee ☕️ every morning and he used to use something called, in Spanish-Cuban payaso (clown in English) which was probably the grandpa of the chemex, made of metal, or wood, and the filter was made of fabric. He used to roast and ground his own coffee and brewed it every morning.... until coffee was banned for decades and then they had to drink some kinda mixed shit..., 2% coffee (maybe), the rest, white beans, cheek peace ☮️ etc..... after that he never used the payaso ever again... He would’ve loved to see this video 😢... well... his spirit is beside me watching it and pressing the like button. Love you man 🙏💙🙏

I really like my v60 too. I also use an aeropress. Always switching up between the 3.

Same.. He used 48g coffee and it looks well under 500g water. Im thinking WAY too much coffee with how little water he used. The normal ratio is 30g coffee to 500g water. Maybe this makes a better cup though?
you normally use 16 or 17 times more water than coffee in a drip, depending on your preferences. I sometimes do 15. So at 48g this would be around 800g of water.
@@michaelsutton8783 it would have to be very finely ground to not under-extract
@@matserdingud If it was finely ground, it would take 8-12 minutes for the water to completely pass through. You wouldn't want an 800g brew going over six minutes. 5:30 would be more ideal. The higher the volume, the coarser the grind to limit contact time and over-extraction.
As soon as he threw the one with the collar away I thought "Yep. Well done" I had one with a collar for a couple years and I didn't realize how much better the handled Chemex was till I got it. Pour over is THE best. I'm surprised you use 48g for that little coffee. I normally make up two+ cups with 48g. Maybe I'm just weak sauce though.

At 800g, it should be about 4 cups. But about 3 regular coffee mugs.

Shakespierre Its 48g for 800g of water. I now use 40g of beans in 850grams of water. You can play around to get the strength you desire.

guess he got so distracted editing coffee shots he forgot :D usual coffee to water ratios for chemex are 1:15 to 1:18, so 720 to 860gr or 3 to 3.5 cups of water. My guess for Peter is on 3 cups for a nice strong kickstart in the morning^^
It did actually say how much water. In the part where its telling about the boiling water, it had in the text about 800 grams. :)

@@janhradil A lot of people do, myself included. I understand what you're saying? Its a liquid, why wouldn't you measure the volume in liters/milliliters? You could convert what it would be in grams over to milliliters if you want. I can't say why it was initially done that way. But in my opinion, you're measuring out coffee in grams. Since you're already using grams for that, just keep it in one unit of measurement instead of switch the scale from one unit of measurement to another. So basically, for convenience purposes. As I said, you could convert in from grams to the other if you wanted if you don't mind changing the unit of measurement on your scale.
