How to install a vent free gas heater: The 20,000 BTU vent free space heater from Dyna Glo can be made, on some models, to operate on both natural gas and liquid propane. However, this is an NG model only.
There is a gas fitting which I needed to buy separately to connect to my existing gas line.
This blue flame wall heater, is one of the best garage heaters natural gas. Installation and operation of the Dyna-Glo ventless heater is very easy, and it will prove to be a truly fantastic little heater.
Dyna Glo natural gas space heater review is here, consisting of this natural gas space heater ventless. A Dyna-glo signature series vent free gas heater install.
Used to it was white Teflon tape for water and yellow Teflon tape for natural gas or propane.
But these days there is a third option which is a gray tape which is approved for water or gas. So if you can't find a yellow look for the gray.
FYI
You just saved me...had mine installed yesterday and tried to turn it on this morning and turned the whole unit off..watched your video and now I'm back in business
well done video. no wasted time with useless information ...well done!
Thanks for the video saved alot of time from RTFM!
Looks like the sealant tape is put on counter clockwise. You wanna put sealant tape on clockwise, so it doesn’t try to unwrap when you screw it in.
Glad i wasn't the only one to notice🤦🏼
honestly shocked how pretty it is, partcular with the lights out. I wonder if painting the whole thing black would hold up. I may paint mine before I install it.
They make a black painted version also
Yessir I’m hoping to put one in the house it’s natural gas I’ve got one for my off grid cabin and we need to get more off the unreliable power grid here at home Ann we have is electric powered heating here
When he used pliers instead of an adjustable it hurt my heart lol
Exactly what I was thinking! I almost shut the video down.
I hate tool marks you can tell people who don't wrench on things
Thanks so much for this informative video!
He popped out the plug metal plug and it look like you need a big allen wrench how can I get it out I have an emergency it's cold and my furnace not working so I purchased this I have everything together but I can't get that plug out of the heater help me please thank YOU
Can this be hooked up to a natural gas line in your house or does this have to run off propane
o-my.... this makes more sense than the larry, moe, shemp and curly: this old house videos... 🤣 thanks a lot... 🥳
Omg thank you so much for explaining everything!!! this is the best video I've seen for it
Happy it helped!
Should I replace baseboard heater boiler with these units? Thinking about that for emergencies but using a mini split system for everyday heating
Does all the heat come out of the top? Can any be felt in front of the heater?
The low setting (fully rotated) is too high for me. Can I put it to just past the pilot where the flame is very low ? Or does it have to be on one of the three settings ?
Looks like you taped it backwards
That was petty obvious.....and then pliers to tighten, really?
Great video
Question...
Does the pilot flame need to stay on at all times or do I turn it off every time I'm done using it?
Thanks!!
You can (should?) turn it off! We never leave it on.
i think the answer is u can leave it on, but probably more than half of people will turn it off
You might want to use some pipe dope or thread sealer in addition to the thread tape, just a tip .
If I am replacing a natural gas heater with the same unit in the video, do I have to have a gas connection as shown on page 16 of the user manual?
Well explained
just went thru the whole install process, gas is on (i can hear and smell it)., ignition is working, but pilot will not light…. wondering what is wrong. last time i called a tech it was $160 for them to spend 5 mins at my house and tell me to get a new unit, which i just did
Does it come with gas? I'm not sure how it runs
Hello how has it been working for you so far? I'm planning on maybe buying one of them for my house.
Mines smells like plastic when it's on is this normal because it's new???
also purge the line with gas before hooking it up to the unit. this will help getting the pilot going faster
I just bought mine and I can’t get it to light I need help please
How big an area does your 20,000 hea
? I'm thinking about one for my small ranch ( furnace is really old),,, does your flame get larger on higher heat setting or just run longer?
How often do you have to refill the gas
1/2 to 3/8 on the fitting?
What do I clean the heater with
Good God almighty you don't own a wrench set or an adjustable wrench? Ate that fitting tf up
Is it possible install an external thermostat to a gas furnace like this so that it kicks on and off at different Temps and also at different times of day?
No not possible the knob is physically turning the gas valve where as a t-stat is completing an electrical circuit these don’t have any sort of power in them just an on off valve
This company does sell one and I just installed one last week in my garage.
Nice work.
I would like something like this in an unheated room in my house. Do I need the utility company to run a line up to this second floor room?
Probably, yes.
No you need a plumber
It depends on your level of exp., most will. I ran mine but im on propane and I put a 30,000 in my basement which I finished. The first initial pilot light can take a few MINUTES to light but then it's fine
Wondering if it's safe to have this on if you have cats in the house or dogs
There is no guard / glass / shield against the flame so I would say... probably not.
I bought 4 burnner gas wall heater
Last year and when I put it on 1 it blows out the pilet why
Gas pressure to hi, you need a low pressure regulator in the line..
Was there any hissing coming from it after installing? I have one which is bigger same brand!
Nope, no hissing at all
Does it require a pressure regulator?
Nope, unless one is built-in
Looks like the tape was wrapped in the wrong direction.
? mine is propane and natural gas and I am going to use propane . The hose was with the heater that I bought at the flea market . Well really the guy gave me the hose and the box was unopened and now want to put it in my basement . What is the connector that goes into the heater . Is it the same but 2 pieces that are connected to make it L shaped to hook to the heater
Where does the carbon monoxide exhaust escape through?
It’s ventless
I have no idea how this thing doesn't need a flue. I mean there are open flames.. where is the combustion byproduct going?
They are 99.99 percent efficient which means everything that goes in gets used
Is there glass that goes over the flame?
Nope, it's open
How hot does the back side get against the wall? Is it safe?
It's insulated and shielded - it's safe and designed for wall-mounting.
When I set the hearter on 1 it blows out the pilet
Then put it on 2 lol 😅
Nice buen trabajo
Where did you get the gas supply hose. I can't find one anywhere except for 12 foot ones. I just need one that is a few feet.
Local BBQ Specialty Store had them.
Look for small appliance gas kit
I have one but for some reason it won't start/light. My neighbor says it's the elevation but I'm at 6500 so it should be ok. He says to adjust the orifist but I can't seem to figure that out.. Anyone out there can help me it would be much appreciated....
When I first hooked up my DynaGlo, it wouldn't ignite. I figured I needed to bleed the line of air. After about two minutes of holding the button down in the pilot position, the pilot slowly began to light. So, if at first you have this problem, be patient. The air will eventually leave the lines through the pilot orifice and propane will eventually make it's way and ignite. Now the problem I'm having is a pilot flame with a tail and cycling on and off; burner flame won't stay on, no matter how high I have it set. Correct me if I'm wrong but my guess is my pressure regulator isn't set to between 11 and 14 W.C. I've made adjustments to the regulator but can't achieve a pilot without a "tail" like the pictures in the manual show.
i hope that is a outside setup that is a gas hazzard with a bbq type hose
I did mention it's a sun room, so yes it's an outdoor implementation.
Is it thermostatically controlled?
His is not, but this company does sell one.
nice
Where does the exhaust go?
The high efficiency blue flame produces so little that it's safely of-gassed into the room - that's according to the manufacturer, anyway.
My brand new dyna glo blue flame works but the burner cycles on and off when it barely reaches 60 degrees. I have the thermostat set on 5. I would think it would stay on until at least 70 degrees. What could be the problem?
Oxygen low
@@fgonzalez78959 it turned out to be the spacers on bottom we’re needed. Made all the difference in the world.
Mine does the same thing
@@virgotaylor9818 I just added the included spacers and that fixed the issue.
@@dblaylock22 Thank you. I’ll try that today
You can use any color Teflon tape you want.
THANK YOU!
People are so goofy with that yellow tape 😊
Yellow designates it's suitable for natural gas fittings.
Note that I mounted my heater higher than most, this will has a minor effect on heating efficiency... but it's where I wanted it!
It's also mounted on the exterior of my home, in my sunroom. But rest assured this is designed for indoor use (read the instructions!)
Just
It’s a stupid installation. The design of this wall furnace allows you to install it to install it flush to the wall and a thermostat to control the temperature.
@@joyoptimal6286 lol
Pliers to tighten something as critical as a natural gas fitting? Are you kidding? Look at how badly that fitting is torn up now. Use the right tool for the job - Unbelievable.
Meh. At the time I didn't have the right tool... "Right tool for the job" vs. "Meh, this'll work this time".
Honestly, I don't care how bad the fitting looks, you can't see it.
"Critical"? A tad overdramatic I think.
Incomplete and superficial video. Left out the important stuff about how supply line needs to be assembled.
Assembled? I didn't have to assemble the line... what are you talking about?
Wait, are you looking for how to tap into your home's a natural gas line? It's highly recommended you leave that for professionals to do.
Use a spray bottle of soapy wooder. What’s with the drinking glass?
It's for holding the soapy water when you don't have a spray bottle. Hope this helps.
one quastion, that hose was rubber you connect the gass line? is that legal ? if was it
Yes. It's a natural gas hose I purchased at a local BBQ store.
Should have use a metal shielded gas hose.
soapy water+spray bottle
Do these produce a lot of water vapor?
I have had one for over 5 years for backup when storms cut my power. Yes there is water vapors that make it to your windows but beats being cold
@@barberdoug6930 yea true. I actually ended up installing an espar diesel heater in my van
