- Finally purchased a heater for the workshop! Bought a Mr. Heater 30,000 Btu Propane Radiant Heater with a additional blower assembly. Great price and very pleased with the product!
Easy to use right out the box czcams.com/users/postUgkxAvrAfikbUEMthp3AZ6iX5FKdiHfzy_RP . Next step is to get a heat activated fan to move the heat. I'm impressed by how long it can go on 1 lbs of propane at the low setting which lasted more than 6hrs. You'll have to adjust it lower than the low setting. Used for personal heating at 30° to 50° at low setting in an open garage, it's quite comfortable. It would warm up a good size single car garage if its closed off.
Had one for 4 or 5 years, does it's job very well. Remember, when cleaning. Take a can of compressed air, spray inside of pilot light to keep dust off the oxygen sensor or if your pilot light won't stay lit. Happens on all ventless wall heaters, good unit.
Electricity goes out, still have heat.

I had these in the ga mts attached to the wall and a 500 pd outside propane tank, they work awesome, so bought one for my fla home since this winter is so cold, I use 20 pd tanks, bought the regulator at home depot for 8 bucks, bought the fitting at lowes for 3 bucks, and the blower on amazon for 25 bucks, saved me a ton of cash by doing it this way shopping around and NOT buying a mr heater regulator, mine is 1 psi and works fine, bought the teflon tape at roses store for a buck. I had the dually tank top heaters before this and it smelled horrible like propane, no smell from this unit, plus this unit has the CO2 detector safety shut off. Much more kid/dog friendly. Best feature is the battery operated igniter..... old one had the plunger type, which was quirky. This one fires right up with just a touch of the button. Takes the chill off a room very quickly, seems to put out more heat that the one that was there, even though they were the same BTUs. Very impressed.... so much so I bought a second one to replace the other old one even though it still works!
Just wanted to thank everyone involved, Answers questions etc. I have a woman that is like my sister With NO HEAT in her attic apartment. With this unit I was able to get it to 70 all day… No issues.
How long does a 20lb tank last?
@@amealnet2495 when my brother is home he keeps the heat at 65 to 68 degrees. We filled it on December 5th. And today is Jan 17th and it’s still on the same tank. I guess usage may vary.

I have the exact same model, it came with the mobile home on my vacation property. I just fired it up for the first time today. It needs to be cleaned, which I will do tomorrow. I found the manual online (the internet is wonderful). No issues with Oxygen, that home isn't air tight LOL but I'm working on it room by room. I'll also get a secondary minoxide detector to be super safe. It's being fed off a 120 pounder the previous owner bought outright. Thanks for the video, especially the blower kit info.

I have this beast and it heats up my 30 feet cargo trailer within 10 minutes about 89 degrees in only # 2 on the dial knob with a temperature outside in the 40s.
I found that turning my garage ceiling fan on low/medium circulates the warm air back down, before the heat would rise and the warmness would be close to the ceiling.
Yeah the ceiling fan is a must with high ceilings! The ceiling fans have a switch to rotate forward or backwards, depending on the season. Forward for summer or cooling and backwards for winter to draw the heat up and then down the walls.
Provides great heat in a cold sewing room!

Thanks for this fine video. It stimulated lots of important comments, as well, and everyone should read them all. I don't understand why your hose package has the filter set up adjacent to the tank. It's the hose that eventually produces most of the particulate debris that can clog the pilot light and heater, I believe. The hose lining eventually deteriorates; that's why it's considered a "temporary" part of the system. I believe the filter should be attached directly to the heater, itself, and the regulator should be attached to the tank. If I'm wrong I'd like someone with training and experience to tell me why. Then I realized this is a permanent setup. We're thinking about setting up a 30,000 btu for emergency use and thinking of getting a 100lb tank.
We bought a 100lb tank (gone now) for an RV and didn't hear of any regulations on how far it could be away from your RV so I'm hoping a 100 lb tank can be close to the exterior wall without problems.
We did have a 250 gallon tank I believe with the propane heat when we bought our home but we had them take it out LOL - we went with ductless Heating.

I have one on my enclosed back porch, works well. Natural gas model. Blower motor don't do much maybe a little.
i heat my 14x70 trailer with this heater. i live in indiana we have cold winters. dont care how cold it gets. turn setting to #2 and will stay around 70 all winter long. PS costs us around $600 to heat for the entire winter

I bought a similar one from dyna glo. Ended up getting a 100lbs propane tank because it suggested it. Wish I'd known I could run it on 20lbs or anything less than 100lbs.
If you're using it to stay warm during a power outage in Winter, you're going to want a 100# tank...

...also depends on hi/low/medium settings!!! On our cabinet heater two days on hi burning all day...on low all day and maybe alternating on medium setting on and offi for about three days fully filled from U-Haul...not the exchanging from Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's or other places!!!

I may get one of those for my off grid cabin my fire place burns the wood fast but it heats the house up good but every 2to3 hours at night you have to get up and put more wood in it not a good nights sleep lol
The unit comes with a 1-5 setting for comfort level. You could set it real low so it just kicks on when the temperature drops after the fire has burnt down. I have a friend that throws a little lump coal in the fireplace to keep the fire burning a little longer. Haven't tried it myself though. I also did a final installation video attaching it to a 500 gallon tank outside. Thanks for watching!
I probably would have made my spacers on the bottom by using a single strip of wood the same thickness of the spacers for the heater to lean against

Wish you would have said how you bled the line and showed you lighting the pilot. Skipped a crucial part. Off to find a video that show how to start the heater.
Turn the knob to pilot, hold down for 30 seconds then press ignite button at the same time.

@Erica Tejas you in Texas? Wow! I truly hope you and your family are safe! I'm in NE Indiana....we are pretty much know how to deal with cold temperatures because we get it every year. I've seen the news reports for Texas and neighboring states.....it really looks harsh for you all. As for the heater.....the 30000 BTU radiant heater has been AWESOME! I'll never buy a blue flame heater again. I run it in my 2.5 car garage. It takes about 20 before I can start to feel comfortable in the garage (currently 6 degrees outside) and after another 20 minutes or so, I'm taking my coat off and I'm very comfortable. Ive had this new heater for about 2 weeks now and I love it!!! Best of luck to you all!!!

@@boldman6348 the blue flame heater did function properly but I just didn't heat my garage as well as I thought it would. I bought the radiant heater and I've never been happier! I can set the radiant heater between 3 and 4 and let it run. Within 30-40 minutes, I have to turn on a fan to circulate the heat and then turn the heater down a bit. My two car garage stays very warm with the radiant heater. Some people like the blue flame heater, and that's cool. I just found that the blue flame heater only heated up the corner of my garage....but the radiant heater has been working amazingly each time I use it. Best of luck to you!

use an eco fan instead no electric needed , just put fan up on a concrete block in front of the heater and it blows out air for free .I have a dyno glo one of these

Yeah priming the line the first go around is a little difficult. I did a second follow up video where I hooked it to a 500 gallon tank. I ended up selling this house and workshop and wasn't in the workshop a whole season with this heater. It seemed pretty fuel efficient once I attached it to the larger tank. I have 1 in my 2 car garage running on a propane tank. The fan on it is a joke. Doesn't heat my garage like I wish. I would need like 3 to make it comfortable. I always have to fire up.my torpedo heater first to make it nice. Then turn on the mr heater to kinda maintain a temp. but my garage will will.still be chilly
Very nice video and heater I was thinking about getting 1 like that or the one with the blue flame there all great heaters I do have rite now 2 mr heater big buddy heaters both brand new 1 with a 3 speed fan I bought from tractor Supply and the. First one I bought from Ebay brand new in original packaging they had 31 more new. Ones but I'm trying the. One without the fan first then the one with the fan to. See the difference I no the. Fan makes a big difference 3 speeds I'd keep it on low speed Itll circulate the heat better on hi itll cool off the heat
Thank you! This unit you can but the fan additionally and install it. The fan itself is single speed. One of the main comments people make is the fan does very little or nothing. I felt like it helped but I won't claim it was drastically different. Thanks again!

Howdy and thanks for watching! Mostly, the insurance companies would frown upon the heater and the fuel source sitting next to each other. I'm not saying you can't, I've heard enough stories of people using it all the time indoors....but for overall safety and staying good in the insurance companies eyes, better to do a permanent hookup. Yeah I watch it even in my workshop, the moisture and alot of raw steel woodworking tools can be bad if you run it too much.

A 500 lb tank costs about $1200 and will last all winter for both heat and cooking in Fairbanks Alaska. In a 900 sq foot leaky old home
How much for a new switch and how do you take out the old one?
I have this same model, my problem with this is that when i turn the dial it will only light all the cells. Setting it to one 2 or 3 doesnt do anything till i turn it to max then it all lights, but it could be an issue with pressure?!, its supposed to run on a 250lb propane tank. I had hooked it up to a 10 gallon barbicue tank
The initial hookup i had on this before it got hardlined was a hose kit that was meant for 20 lb up to 100lb tanks....the next video I did it got hardlined to a 500 lb tank. I specified to the propane company which heater I was running so the regulator matched the required specs.

@Herman Woodworks I just bought this unit for the fact it can hook up to natural gas or propane. I have natural gas ran out to my 2 & 1/2 car garage, but my shop is currently set up on the opposite side where the gas line comes in. So, until I can find a full week off to rearrange opposite sides of the garage, using this unit as propane in the meantime then being able to convert it back to natural gas sounds like a winner to me. So, I appreciate your video as I'm on my way to ACE hardware for the parts I need for temporarily using propane.

I'm looking at this as an emergency heater for my home during power outages. I have a 1260 square foot ranch, and hoping to at least heat kitchen/living/dining to a tolerable temperature during long outages. Thanks Tonya! I'm still getting around to doing a video of putting in steel lines and such...ive been working with family member who does hvac furnace work on getting the lines installed. Hopefully I'll have that video sooner than later! As per the 20 lb tank, running it on low could probably get you a week. Well let me tell you my workshop is 28x28 with 12 ft ceilings and I get about 3 days of run time (8hr work days) with this unit.

@@queeky00 yes, the tanks i use are actually 15 lb tanks and work great! So in an emergency, take the tank from the grill and your all good!
@@HermanWoodworks I appreciate the feedback! The Blue Rhino tanks you have in your video are 20lb tanks. But Blue Rhino exchange refills are only filled to 15lb. I bring my 20lb tanks to a filling station and get the full 20lbs for less money.

I was all set to buy one of this, but you mentioned that the propane tank inside is only for a temp solution. My only purpose was to use this for power outage. would this be an exception to the line hookup or is the propane tank inside not recommended at all?
Hello Jane! When I stated the line is only for a temporary solution with the tank inside, that is me stating what the company has on the side of the packaging. I used this setup for months before I finally got it hardlined through the wall to the outside propane tank. I even left the plastic feet they give you for the unit sitting next to it on the wall in case of a power outage and I needed to disconnect it and use it inside the house. I have personally watched quite a few videos of people running these in their homes. Hope that answers your question! Feel free to ask if you think of something else!
I just bought two of these for emergency outages , my plan is to set them up next to windows so i can run the hose out the window to a propane tank sitting next to my garbage cans on one side of my house , and i have a rubbermaid shed on the other side for the other propane tank.
Then i will use towels , duct tape and plastic to reinsulate the windows once the hoses are run. (and i also bought a "big buddy" portable heater in case there are cold spots in the house that i need to deal with)

@@HermanWoodworks Some people are saying the supply chain catastrophe will cause America to start running out of natural gas around february , interrupting home heating and causing power blackouts as the power plants run out of fuel.
I could deal with losing heat or i could deal with losing power , but losing both at the same time in the middle of a Minnesota winter might have proven to be a serious problem.
So i spent $200 each for 2 vent free heaters , $150 for the big buddy , $150 on hoses and regulators and im about to go spend another $300 on more propane tanks for a final tab of $1000, which sounds like alot , until you start adding up how much it would cost me if all my pipes burst ,, then $1000 sounds like a hell of a good deal .

Use a wrench. Soap and water solution after to check for any leaks. Use thread dope as well.

My brand new dual fuel blue flame heater works but the burner cycles on and off when it barely reaches 60 degrees. I have the thermostat set on 5. The pilot light stays on. I would think the burner would stay on until at least 70 degrees. It’s running on LP. What could be the problem?
If yours is hung on a wall with the top brackets towards the top, pushing the top of the heater out, you need to level the bottom of the heater out away from the wall with about a half inch of rubber bumpers, or maybe the sticks that came with it if it came with any what that does is it causes the thermostat on it to not function properly. We ran into this problem multiple times, what we actually did was went to Home Depot or Lowe’s and got quarter inch sticky bumpers and adhered two on one side on the bottom and two on the other side left and right double stacked. This pushes the bottom away from the wall and somehow tends to make the thermostat work more properly, as I said we had to physically do this twice and this was our problem when it’s tilted that way the thermostat won’t work right or you can literally find anything that’s probably about a half inch thick and push the bottom of the heater away from the wall that should help fix the problem then the thermostat works right
I hear the blower don't do a whole lot for these units.I have the same heater and it does a really good job without it.The only complaint I have is the cracking sound it makes when igniting.Is very annoying!
I feel the fan does respectable for the price tag over the long term. I personally feel I need to install a ceiling fan to keep pushing the heat back down with my 12 ft ceilings. Yes I does make a random sound now and again especially if it is cycling on and off.

They don't recommend it because of hazard from a bad tank or the heat source being next to the tank but I did it until I did the final hookup to an outside 500 gallon tank. I did a final install video also. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the kind words! Honestly I have had alot of people tell me they felt the fan was pointless. I can't say it moves alot of air, im sure it moves some. Maybe if someone did a test with a thermal image camera to see if it actually moves the air. I honestly kept the ceiling fan on to keep the air circulating. Im sure it helps a little but not a big noticeable difference. Thanks again!

My Natural gas unit pumps out a lot of heat, but the humidity that pumps out too causes so much mold on the drywall i had to stop using it when the walls became all fuzzy
Natural gas does the same with moisture as propane? I thought it was drier but I've never gone to use it yet...

So this may be a very stupid question but i cant seem to find an answer. I am needing an emergency heating source in case of power outages and was wondering, is using a propane tank indoors with sensors a viable option or would this not end well?
Not a stupid question...but it's kind of a complicated answer. For insurance purposes and total safety, the answer is no. But if you read through some comments on here or watch some other videos, lots of people use this heater indoors, including the tank. I used it indoors for a short while to heat this workshop. I did a follow up video with the final installation to a 500 gallon tank. It says ventless but there will be some smell and fumes. Crack a window or open and shut a door from time to time. I know its a round about answer but really it comes down to what you personally are ok with. I've watch people run kerosene heaters indoors and they are crazy fume producers. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I had it running on high. I’m in our store all day working so that may be the problem. I needed it as a main source and it is just to expensive.
How large is the store? Also how high are your ceilings? My workshop had 12 ft ceilings and I needed to install a ceiling fan to push the heat back down....also a stand fan can help move the heat around the store.

OK this may just be a minor complaint and please someone actually correct me if I am wrong on this but here’s the confusion smaller tanks are rated by pounds a.k.a. 20 pound tank 40 pound tank 100 pound tank I think anything over a 100 pound tank that is a stationary tank that cannot simply be picked up in more and moved easily Hass to be moved by machine is then rated in gallons me and my wife have a 120 gallon tank right outside her house then from my understanding you can get a 250 pound gallon say I did it too 250 gallon tank a 500 gallon tank and I think someone makes an in 1000 gallon tank but that’s still the point I think after a 100 pound tank everything is rated in gallons after that

I have one of these but it is for Natural Gas. I have to run a 70 feet hose from the gas hookup to the shop, Do I have to install a valve at the other end? Does natural gas provide the correct pressure at 70 feet? Any input would be great. Thanks!
Talk to your gas provider about their requirements and I think they may even do the final hookup so they can pressure test it and assure they put on or provide the correct regulator. The propane company i used did that for me. I just had to run the line through the wall. Hope that helps.
Why isn't this a permanent setup with the tank and line. What is there a concern with the setup thanks.
The only hold up for having it be actually piped through the wall permanently is myself...I'm not 100 percent confident in plumbing the lines myself and for insurance purposes I waited for a professional to do it. I know i could run the lines but the negative side in my brain just worries that if something happens, God forbid, the insurance company won't payout for it....I know I'm over thinking it but ultimately that has been my only hold up. Sorry for the long explanation!
Because he doesn't want to have to change the tank every 3-5 days. Hardline pulls from a larger tank, less refills???? My guess.
Truth....also I'm pretty sure insurance companies would have a problem with it...
That makes total sense I never thought of natural gas or propane to be experimented with. How much would it be for the bigger tank and install of the natural gas lines ballpark. I bought the same setup and would be nice to not have to worry about changing tanks and the safety aspect of having the propane in the garage thanks for the responses.
I'm in Northeast Ohio and the propane company i have set the 500 lb tank and are installing the line to the workshop and house for under 300 bucks but that is also based on me using a certain amount every year. Propane contracts need to be read carefully...
How much propane does it use?
I don’t understand I bought a Mr heater. It ran a whole tank of propane out in about 10-19 hours. That’s a tank of propane a day. What am I doing wrong??
What is your square footage and which setting do you have it on? I would only run it on 1 usually and shut it down when I wasn't in the shop. The insulation held the heat well.
Ok I bought this why flame stays on but the heater itself turns off unless I move the dial up, the starts again
The flame or pilot light will stay on when the heater turns off when it has reached the desired temperature setting. The only way the pilot will go out is if you turn the unit off or run out of propane. The pilot is what re ignites the burners when the furnace needs to run again.
the "special gas tape" is just thicker... couple more wraps will get you there... or just get some dope.
Can you leave this running while away from home?
You probably could for short times but me personally, would only run it while I was home. It has a sensor if there is low oxygen I believe but didn't want to test that. I did a final installation video and i go over the regulators. I have it hooked up to a 500 lb tank but I went over the heaters inlet pressure requirements and they installed the correct regulator I needed.
For me, any unvented heater be it propane or kerosene is scary. They burn up the oxygen in the room and give off water vapor. Soon your walls start going black and growing mold. They make vented units that go thru the wall and do not require a chimney.
I've had 2 of these for over 5 years and none of this has happened. They are very oxygen sensitive. Love the radiant heat
I read online these shouldn't be ran 24/7 (if you're asleep or not home) yet a plumber is saying its fine as long as you use a thermostat? Anyone care to chime in?
Personally, I never let it run when I wasn't at home. It's a nice heater but I myself wouldn't feel comfortable leaving it unattended for a day. I'm not saying it can't be done but that's my personal choice. I don't feel like I would trust any heater beside a home furnace.
Been wanting to add one of these inside my home for secondary heating. My heat pump struggled to maintain temps last year when we hit single digits down here in the south. Wondering if this would work well with a 100 gallon tank and if I could make that tank last all winter.

OK me and my wife have a 120 gallon tank we have 120,000 BTU heater and one 10,000 in our main bedroom. We live in the south north Georgia when it did get really cold last year and running hours and keeping it very comfortable in the house, we got around 5 to 6 weeks worth on our tank now that was when it got low teens and it hit eight or nine if you run it when it stays around 30° I think it actually lasts closer to around two months before we absolutely have to have it full. Hope this helps but once again how well insulated your house is actually a huge role on how much it takes to heat it.
You can take 40# tanks to Tractor supply or Ace Hardware to be refilled. A very good deal.
You are limited to 90# of Propane in a vehicle and tank size has to be less than 45#.
Once you get in the habit, you refill them a few times a Winter. Easy
For the cost of that heater an to fill the tank you be better off looking into a mini split unit they cool an heat an depending on what size your garage is would mean the size of the unit an it would pay for its self in the long run

I have a ventless heater item number or model number BF30DTDG-4 And I don’t see the hole in the interior of this model that you’re speaking of and the problem here is installing the heat sensor where does it go on this particular model thank you
Hello, I looked up that model number and it came up as a Dyna Glo heater. They look very similar but they are manufactured by different companies. I tried googling the installation directions from Dyna Glo and didn't see a very clear wire up for the blower. Sorry I couldn't help more.
I just bought the same heater.... MHVFRD30LPT.... Do you notice a difference (instantly) from temp setting 1 vs 5? The heat intensity doesn't instantly change on mine at all, it burns at the same level.
The intensity will be the same...the settings are a rough temperature setting. If I use setting one, it seems to keep my shop around 55 degrees or so....setting 2 keeps it around 60.... and so on

No one shows how to knock-out the blower plate, it's there one min and then it's gone.

Sorry I didnt....I used a hammer for a little initial loosening...some light grinding if you really wanna make it easy. Use a file to clean up any left over burrs.

I notice my propane tank makes an air noise as the heater is on , but when the heater is off it goes away. I checked for leaks no bubbles. Is this normal?
What size tank is it? I believe I remember on the smaller tanks being able to hear the liquid propane displacing....
