  • I took the Nikon D850 to Beachmere in Queensland, Australia for a sunrise shoot. My efforts for getting up early paid off with one of the most stunning sunrises I've ever seen. The D850 performed so well. Always amazed at the image detail, low light focusing, dynamic range and colour it can capture. I can highly recommend the Nikon D850 as a landscape photography camera.

    After the filming of this video, and as of Saturday the 16th of May, the Covid19 restrictions have been eased even more in my state in Australia. I can now travel up to 150kms from my home for recreational day trips which opens up a lot more scope for video content on my channel. Thank goodness I didn’t have to revert to, “How to make pancakes in the shape of cameras” videos 😂

    My wife has been feeling very down with the lock-down in the UK. She has been upset about all of the negative press and comments by the media and despaired that there was nothing positive anywhere. I showed her your video, and it brought her to tears. She just wants to think you for being so positive and also for bringing such beauty into her life. For me I just purchased a new D850 and it is a joy to see the results that can be obtained. Thank you for sharing and mentoring.

      Thank you so much for watching. Just reading your comment bought me to tears. I think that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about one of my videos. I always try to stay positive in a bad time and try to convey that on my channel. Tell your wife I'm glad she enjoyed the video, I tend to stay clear of reading or watching news nowadays, just concentrate on the beauty in life like nature, flowers, birds, sunrises, sunsets. Enjoy your D850 it is a remarkable camera and I'm sure it'll bring you a lot of great shots. Cheers and take care 👍🙏📸

    Hi Adrian. gorgeous shot. I went from my D810 to a Z6 and have considered the Z7 because I am mainly loving Landscape shooting these days. I have yet to see images like the ones I seen in my D810 out of the Z6 Nice but definitely different. I think Im going to get the D850 instead of the Z7 there just something special about what those D Cameras produce . One question I have is are you able to see the change of the scene when adjusting any of the shutter , aperture or iso in the LCD panel I know it won't in the view finder but to me that's not big deal. Thanks Dave

    • @adrianalfordphotography
      @adrianalfordphotography  Před 3 lety

      Hi Dave thanks for watching. The D850 is an amazing camera (heavy but amazing). Yes you can see the changes on the LCD screen if you drop or raise shutter or aperture. You can even bring up a histogram and exposure level on the right hand side of screen too which helps. You can see me doing it on this video I did recently czcams.com/video/aS18YqoHhvY/video.html I finally found a type of formula for whether you buy the Z7 or D850. If you're hiking up mountains continually, travelling long distances by foot or in general, then go the Z7, purely for the weight factor and better video autofocus (though I'd wait and get the Z7II coming out - announcement this week). If you're doing stuff in studio, traveling by car to locations and only walking short distances and maybe you want to photograph birds and wildlife too, then go the D850.

      Hi Frank - I will have to make a video on this one day as I get asked this question a lot. Great set up with the D850 and 14-24mm. This is what I do. Tripod > Manual Mode > ISO 64 (keeps noise down) > F11 > Timer shutter release to take photo after 2 or 5 seconds (stops camera shake) > go into live view mode on the back of the D850 > tap at the bottom of the screen about a third of the way up from the bottom on closest object, rock, log, pattern should come up with a green box > adjust your shutter speed until your exposure indicator is in the middle zero mark > hit your shutter button. There are so many ways you can do it. This is just one. As I said I will have to make a video on it to explain better.

      @@adrianalfordphotography my method is almost identical to this but I use AP. I also use hyperfocal distance for focus point using LV and the small focus square. Then histigram check/adjustment. 2 sec delay on. Oh and ISO 100 (tripod). But as I'm setting up just before sun up it's still on the dark side so back button focus first then 100% manual enlarge for manual focus in LV before shot....

      @@adrianalfordphotography just re read your comment ....I always use Manual mode but after watching a guy (Dave Morrow) on CZcams I started to use AP using 14-24 and hyperlocal distance technique for focusing which works really well for me in day light. Apart from this I cary out same method as you describe; but.... I see where you are going and I will give it a try next time out. Manual setting as you describe..... (“adjust shutter speed - exposure meter at zero”) ....

      Thanks Frank, the reason for manual you can adjust your shutter to match the conditions eg. bright sky sunrise (expose for sky and adjust foreground in post or exposure bracket and join images in post) In AP you are dictated by what the camera tells you it thinks is the right shutter speed by taking an all over meter reading from the frame. Sometimes you end up with blown out highlights that way. Cheers.

    Hello Adrian. I am writing to you from Spain. I love your videos, they are very helpful and motivating. I have started to see them from the oldest. I am writing this message to ask you about the white caps of the objective lens with the filter holder ring. I mean, for example, the one you wear on the camera in this video czcams.com/video/hXTyAF1Kj9I/video.html from minute 2.
    Thanks in advance and keep it up.
    Greetings Valentine.
