  • Rip explains the proper way to reset the deadlift after each rep. The bar should return to its starting position over the middle of the foot, one inch from the shins.

    Thanks for the reminder coach. Noticed couple reps being too forward at the start when performing deadlift today. I will pay more attention to this next time I'm deadlifting.

    Hit failure while deadlifting for the first time since I started the program a few months back, then came home to see this. Good timely advice. Probably was putting it down too far forward. My grip started to fail and then everything else fell apart. Time to buy straps.

    Very good video, informative and professional. This is exactly what I have been working on. As the weight gets heavier it is easy to be a little sloppy. I have to give details like this constant attention.

    This is the main reason that I try to slow down my eccentric a bit - if I just drop the bar with no control it always ends up forward of where it should be.

      Had the same problem. And I can’t drop the weight because of the room I’m lifting in.
      I think of a Romanian deadlift when lowering the weight back down. Helped me a lot to get my knees out of the way.

    • @CC-xr7mo
      @CC-xr7mo Před měsícem +4

      Focus on pushing your hips back as the first part of the act of lowering the bar. You're hitting your knees because you're lowering the bar without pushing your hips back. You can hear Rip queue some people for this in some of his deadlift videos.

      Just switch your grip during the set if you need to or let go and regrip the bar. Once the weight gets heavy enough it's either doing that or using straps. Keep working on your grip strength, but don't think letting go of the bar once it's on the floor to reset is a problem. Mark always has some weird arbitrary rules he tries to throw into everything.

      You really shouldn't have to let go. If your grip is giving out you're probably not locking out at the top. Just use straps for sets of 5 it really makes everything better.
