I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last year. So far Iโ€™ve managed it with a moderate-low carb diet (100 g a day), and lost about 20 lbs. Iโ€™ve found that if I eat a small amount of protein (usually a piece of cheese or some nuts) at bedtime, my blood sugar in the morning is usually well under 130. My cousin, an MD, explained that protein at bedtime digests slowly overnight, and this prevents the liver from doing a โ€œsugar dumpโ€ overnight.

When the doctor told me I was prediabetic 3 years ago whenever i took a fasting blood sugar it was in the 140sโ€ฆ
I am so happy to say with pretty consistent intermittent fasting I try to only eat in a 6 hour window and have since added walking I have been able to get my fasting blood sugar to go 111
    So from 140s to 111
Iโ€™m going to join the gym and start working outโ€ฆ it has been so hard for me to loose weight with this insulin resistance I have developed.
I have lost 50 pounds and regained it so many timesโ€ฆIโ€™m going to start thinking of this as a chronic illnessโ€ฆ I have to intermittent fast and work out consistently for the rest of my life or the weight belly fat and insulin resistance will just come back..

We are waiting for the bloodwork to come back. Iโ€™m wondering if I shouldโ€™ve received a lot more dietary and closer monitoring prior to adulthood. I watch your podcast every day. I enjoy them very much.

    • @techknowledgestuff

Reactive hypoglycemia means your body produces too much insulin all the time and so your blood sugars are low all the time. This is the opposite of diabetes which typically causes high blood sugar.
After having covid, if you have become diabetic itโ€™s probably a blessing in disguise because high blood sugar can be dealt with easily. Low blood sugar and reactive hypoglycemia is difficult to deal with as you have to eat something all the time to prevent low sugar levels in the body. Diabetes gets a lot of coverage but reactive hypoglycemia does not.
I read somewhere that chromium picolinate supplement helped with reactive hypoglycemia. Try it out after consulting with a good doctor.

Elenita - kudos to you for your spectacular control of your blood sugars. May I ask if you are Type 1 or Type 2, and what do you eat and how do you manage your diabetes - Multiple Daily Injections, Insulin Pump w/Continuos Glucose meter, medications, etc. Also, do you exercise and if so could you share with us what you choose to do for exercise? May you continue to stay strong and stay healthy!! Again, you are an inspiration to us younger diabetics to do the best we can. It would great to hear back from you should you care to share and if your time allows. Many thanks!!

My understanding is that it is healthier to exercise at certain times of the day. It is common to exercise in the morning. Before taking blood glucose? Or exercise at night before bed or in the afternoon between 3-6. Just trying to figure it out. Cannot seem to drop my weight and intermittent fasting now for over a year

I think you should walk, there could be other exercises, after a meal. You should do it for at least 10 minutes. If 10 minutes is all you can do that's fine. Walk as if you are late for an appointment, or move as quickly as you are able to. If you could fine someone to show you some basic resistance exercise that would be beneficial.

Dieticians at the diabetic clinics are telling us that exercise works on lowering blood sugars for 48 hours. You just said when you stop - if you don't exercise every day - that you go back to the start. So which is it? Do we NEED to exercise for an hour every single day? Or is every other day sufficient? My A1C dropped from 6.7 to 6.2 and I exercised every other day. I know we are all different but diabetes is new to me so I need advice. Thank you.

    as I watch this video
    what I contemplate
    is how much physical weight
    I have to release:
(75.2 Lbs to be precisely exact!)
for the sake of my health
    and for my well-being.
(I have diabetes. I need to reverse it.
    I'm open to hearing tips/advice/hacks/info.)
    the thing is though...
I realize that I desperately also
hold on to all the excess weight:
    for safety and for comfort.
    dear God, please please please,
help the weight dissolve off of me,
and please help me to no longer have the need
to hold on to any of it, for the illusion
of safety and protection. I am ready
    to be permanently, forever released
    from these shackles...

Do we have to fast? I have gestational diabetes and a common problem I see myself and other pregnant women have is their fasting. Since most pregnant women have problems sleeping through the night, must we fast? I go to bed at midnight and wake up every night at 3am. Maybe I can snack, then exercise. And sleep an additional 2 hours. Itโ€™s not fasting but it would bring my blood sugar down that way

I donโ€™t feel any different of my body. One month ago my A1C was 6.1. Is it possible the glucose meter is malfunction ? And I walk one hour daily, on low carb diet. Dr. T2d. This may seem to be an easy question to answer, but i cant seem to find any responses or discussion regardinging it. I have been running as my main exercise. Now that my weight is down, (a lot), and my running has dramatically improved, are there any "supplements" that as a runner, i can take with me on my run and take during the 45-60 min w/o all the extra carbs/sugars? would that be ok? Or.. is it more of a sodium defficiency? Im unsure, and i don't really want to go that far again w/o some recourse. The reason i ask, i ran 10 mi just about a week ago, and i was completely wasted at the end of the run. Drank some water.. etc. I felt really nauseous, muscles sore.. etc. After about 3-4 hrs and eating and drinking i started to feel normal. I know there are some 'power' gummies and other 'snacks' that longer distance runners will take with them during their runs to help fuel their cause. (Edit: typos)
