    Thanks for creating super useful tutorials Sean! Reassuring to know that even the pros have gripes with all the various zbrush nuances haha!

      Thanks for that Evavoo, really appreciate it! I'm sure this list could have been a LOT longer, those were just the ones off the top of my head. Every single time I sculpt I find stuff I wished was fixed. Every. Single. Time. :)

    good luck getting them to integrate these things. the edit mode and shift S thing is obvious common sense, but they don't care. there are literally 100's of 'how do i get ride of this off my canvas' posts every single month. they've known the knife brush crashes all the time ever since they implemented it, but instead we get projection master rewrapped in a pretty new button. they refuse to fix the obvious and find easy pointless things to add as filler.

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem

      Yeah, unfortunately, I have to agree with you there... really wish it were otherwise. Anyway, I just thought, if we don't complain then nothing changes, so this is just my tiny effort to try to get them to change. Hopefully more things get added to this list. I was thinking of maybe adding this as a text doc somewhere so we could keep it updated, but as you said, it's probably all for nothing. I mean, if they're spending time on Slime Bridge and new Snakecurve brushes rather than fixing crash bugs on important stuff such as the Knife brush, there's not much hope left really.

      @@SeanForsythTutorials i thought of one. shortcuts requiring repeat presses. for example, i have a short cut on ctrl+alt+q or something. have to frickken let go of the keyboard and then press it again. over and over sooooo annoying. why don't they have it like every other software where i don't need to lift my fingers off the keyboard, and i can just hold down ctrl+alt, and keep toggling q. (just example keypress).

    Sean you nail it, there are so many things left undone but Maxon will fix it right?? But one of my favs is when your sculpting and for no reason the stroke you are doing just shoots up to the left hand corner making a line all across your mesh. That ones been there since I first started in 4R4.

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem +2

      Oh yeah, that's another good one! Thanks for mentioning it, hopefully one day these will all get addressed. Yeah, we're not expecting these to all get fixed by Maxon, but here's to hoping that a list compiled by users in the field might help nudge them towards fixing at least some of them. The more suggestions and the more comprehensive the list, hopefully the more attention it gets and the likelihood of some of it getting addressed increases. I certainly have a torrid time when teaching, constantly saying stuff like, "it's just the way it is, and always has been", or "ALL of you will at some stage hit Shift + S by accident, mark my words... so this is how you're gonna have to fix it", etc. Frustrating for everyone.

    I would love to see an interview with the original Zbrush UI designer... :-) What were they thinking?

    Great list, especially about the floating tool panels. One gripe I have is with the minimise screen function not working. I find that it will work for a little and then stop, I have to then press the maximise twice to then make the minimise work.

    I loved watching this. So relatable. Especially the Hotkeys part. For some reason my hotkeys wont load randomly and I was doing the exact same thing where I would go to save UI first. It's all those little things that can interrupt your flow state and poke your brain for simply no reason. Also I absolutely agree with the Knife Tool. Its the best and at the same time worst tool of Zbrush :D

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem

      Thanks! The hotkeys thing not working can sometimes be caused by Caps lock being accidentally hit. I have another tutorial here czcams.com/video/bB3fzla0U0I/video.html for how I avoid that, it might be useful. But please, as other little niggles come up, feel free to come back and write them down so they can join the list. Would be userful to get as many as possible together from experience artists like yourself.

  • @SeanForsythTutorials
    @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem +1

    Oh, and if I've JUST saved a file and am going to close ZBrush or open another file, register that fact and don't prompt me to resave it. Nothing worse than constantly doubting yourself.

    - They added Redshift but you dont actually have a PBR workflow you cannot hook maps like roughness, metallic, sss, etc.
    - they claim that everything in the UI can be moved to your custom interface, but things that have Curves in it, cannot be moved. Example: Curve Modifiers / Intensity-Size Curve Falloff.
    - if you notice there is a DIVIDER with 2 arrows at the bottom of the viewport that does absolutly nothing.
    - why cant you use the Delete Key to delete items? You cannot use the period key either. . .

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem

      Yep, agree with all of these. The thing about deleting is probably because of the lack of a universal undo. I've you delete a subtool there is no undo so I'm guessing they thought it too dangerous to just show accidental hits. Maybe.

  • @TheIcemanModdeler

    In my workflow i usually sculpt let's say clothing without thickness and then extrude, add the corresponding nr of edge loops on the thickness and rebuild, after a certain version this workflow stopped working for some reason, there is a new option that auto merges vertexes with zmodeler but it won't go lower at a certain point so now i basically do that in Maya and bring it back in Zbrush just so i can reconstruct the levels.
    Also some automation on some stuff would be nice like let's say if I'm at level 4 and add a layer and want to divide the model again, instead of auto saving the model/export, delete the layer, divide, add layer, go back to previous division and import the mesh and go back to the highest division i have to do that by hand. Similar with storing a morph at a level it only works at that level instead of working at every level, maybe have that and an option.
    Maybe improve the interface, have it like Painter, add tabs that can be hidden on the sides, etc, maybe improve the viewport, sometimes when working with wireframe i need to move the camera to make it refresh.

      @@SeanForsythTutorials Oh and every time i open Zbrush i have to reset all the brushes intensity and options. My customs ones are set but if i change the intensity for ex on the standard brush and save it like that it won't work, the brush won't load.

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem +1

      @@TheIcemanModdeler Yeah, that's a weird one, just tested it out here as well and while modifying the Dam Standard and overwriting the one in the ZData\BrushPresets seems to work fine, modifying the Standrd brush doesn't (it still loads it, but seems to reset it regardless). Personally, I'm happy with the default sensitivity settings of all of the brushes, so this hasn't affected me before, which is why I've never noticed it.

    Amazing all the nonsense we become use to eh. I hope they see you video. Cuz all those changes will make the software way easier to use. Personally I will like to see everything in the sub palletes in alphabetic order.
    I hope you get well soon , cheers

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem +1

      Yep, that's another great one, especially seeing as they set the tone by making the palettes or main menus in alphabetical order. Unfortunately, that would mean Subtool would be at the bottom of the list and you'd be scrolling to see it all the time. But hey, this is what comes from introducing an alphabetical system in one part of your interface and not another. Thanks for the well wishes, feeling a lot better than I was already.

    document presets yes! and poly count rather than active point count yes.

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem

      Yep, pretty basic stuff! Even stuff like the Divide "Smt" button. It makes no sense not to write "Smooth" on the button reather than "Smt", as there's plenty of space for it. Just serves to make the interface harder to understand for beginners. There are even typos in there since v2, like the Inflate brush being called "Inflat". The small stuff never seems to get addressed though.

    2024, Knife still crashing. We got Slime Bridge though, thanks Maxon!!

  • @SeanForsythTutorials

    Another one: having polypaint mode on for your subtool and then trying to bake a layer (while it's in record mode) will always flood your model with black. Super annoying and unnecessary.

  • @Anonymous_User69
    @Anonymous_User69 Před rokem

    I hate that there is no option to set the size of the document/screen grab on the export. Similar to Marmosets' rendered image dimensions.
    I like to keep images of my progress at the end of each sculpting session, and being bound to the default document size without the ability to change it on the go is quite annoying, especially when like you said in the vide, you have to manually input the document size.

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem

      There is a crop option on the top right of the Document export dialog which might do some of what you want, but yeah, a list of presets are always better, as even then, if you wanted them consistently cropped, you'd be entering it manually each time you export.

    It always pays to watch the whole video; as soon as I heard the request for annoyances I started to type mine, but then thought- just wait and see. Sure enough "subtool selection highlight" comes up. This drives me mad. It had me wondering whether my eyesight was the problem- can other people distinguish between these two greys at a glance?

    • @clibinarium
      @clibinarium Před rokem

      Actually, more of an annoyance to me is the lack of any obvious sizing and working in a sort of netherworld void. I've been learning Blender recently and its simple 2m starting cube is nice for calibrating things. I know it's not super important to sculpting and that you can set scales and rulers in zBrush, but I'd prefer it to be there without setting it. When importing stuff from other programs it can be orders of magnitude off in scale and its an annoyance to harmonize them. Maybe its an issue with the maximum sizes of brushes or something,, and there's no easy fix, but it bugs me.

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem +1

      Yep, this is very much a thing. And reminds me of another issue. :) ZBrush likes to work at a scale of 2, so all of it's brushes work nicely at that scale, unfortunately, not all objects are going to be a unit size of 2. The solution to this by Pixologic is to multiply that value by another number in the Export settings when exporting, but honestly, as an end user I don't care. Just make that transparent to me as a sculptor. Do whatever mathematics you need to do under the hood to make things work, but show me what I expect to see and something compatible with other apps. Which leads me to another one: having to flip textures. Please fix!

    In 2022, the bridge 2 holes option in zmodeler always crashes zbrush when you try to bend the bridge itself.

    • @SeanForsythTutorials
      @SeanForsythTutorials  Před rokem

      That actually works okay for me. Are you sure there are no issues with the mesh you are working on? (as in, use Tools, Geometry, MeshIntegrity, Check Mesh Integrity)

    for the knife tool, no crashes for me when my mesh is watertight.
