Basically it's a class you can take in highschool which can give you a little taste of the military (Like with PT, how to wear certain uniforms and uniform inspections) but in all its mostly just a leadership class whose priority is to teach you to be a better citizen and teach you leadership skills along the way
Bro deadass my dad basically told me when they were enrolling for JROTC, " you've got no say in this your doing it" I get I was a shitty kid got in trouble alot all my teachers either hated me or were indifferent about me, not just that I was an even shittier student so my dad thought it would help me straighten up but it didn't by the end of sophomore year I got sick of their bullshit rules and just quit
I live in a "peaceful" country, but we still have kids that joined cadets and they act like this. Whenever i see them I remember that one quote from blood meridian

It actually makes sense that someone would wish there was war based on the war glory propaganda. The WW2 generation is known as the greatest generation. As a member of the military myself, I hope war never happens but I will appreciate all my comrades with the guts to defend our great nation.

@@Solno12 typically it’s a class you can take as an elective depending on what branch is predominantly in your area changes what you learn in class, I was in the navy version so I learned a lot about ship designations and the navy ranks, overall you march during class, learn, and have an inspection once a week where you wear a uniform with whatever rank you are and what ever ribbons you have.

I will never forget the day I wrote a letter to CGS Sir David Richards for a write to your hero class thing and I got what I believed an automated response so I left it left unopened whilst I looked in the goodie bag, a friend of mine who l knew liked the military a little too much (full camo room, talked about guns and bombs too much, said his dad is in the military...if I recall correctly he was fat and on benefits) happened to glance the stamp on the envelope next to me on the ground, long story short the kid stole at least half of it and paraded around like he was in the military for the day saying how this was his letter of call to service...he was 8...I got the t-shirt and the letter back but I never opened the letter for years out of childish spite, turns out it wasn't a automated response but a lovely hand written letter from Sir David Richards telling me how thankful he was that someone would go out of their way to thank him and his men for their brave work on duty, idk why this impression reminds me so much of the kid but thanks for the nostalgia it gave me.

I went to high-school with a kid who damanded respect because he was "a future veteran". In final year he tried to sign up but failed because the medical revealed he had a weak heart. He was a shell of his former self after that. Taught me for the rest ofy life to never put all my hopes into one dream.

I was this kid lol. My Dad was deployed most of my childhood. I wanted to be just like him and thought he'd be proud of me therefore spend more time with me.
Too bad when he was discharged and I got to spend more time with him I found out he was actually an abusive alcoholic with PTSD and anger issues. I still joined the Army despite what it did to him and the irony was I became a bit like him while in the service.
I was an animal when it came to drinking from when I was 19 until 23 (never abusive tho but a huge asshole to be around when I was drunk).
