    We always run some packing tape down the seams of our molds as the epoxy does not stick to it. It also seals up any gaps in the mold

  • @nancyscheneman4967
    @nancyscheneman4967 Před 4 měsíci

    Tables came out beautiful.
    I feel with each and every project you get a little better at sanding epoxy. Like you said learning from mistakes.
    That being said this has to be the best video I have seen in 3years explaining the process specially for a beginner that needs help .
    With that being said I run into the problem of the polishing part , Your wood here is separated pretty well from the epoxy not allowing polishing compound to get into the wood. For instance a checker board when polishing the wood gets so clogged up with compound the cleaning is terrible. And even wet sanding it often changes the color of the wood if too much water is required.
    Do you have any suggestions as to what I can seal the wood with before polishing and for wet sanding ? Thanks

I, unfortunately, have to go through household 6 to get equipment and that doesn't always work. I love the way you explain the sanding. One question though, if you were to do a table top epoxy, would you sand all the way to 10k grit? That's how I want to finish my POS, but I'm not sure of the steps. Thanks.

    That slab mizer is a beast I would to own that but I got such a small space I would no chance .
    That mould issue is so wrong that company sounds like it’s in denial .dont know if you know this but you can use just about anything oil for mould release .olive oil works really well.i dont buy silicone spray no more since i run out one day and improvised using cooking oil and it worked really well .
    Nice table and it’s good to see people sanding and polishing pieces instead of just flood coating a piece and calling it finished or throwing a load of Rubio over epoxy and calling time on it .
    Also I’ve actually started from 400 grit before and finished on 3000 grit but I was previously sanding in between coats but I have started from 600 as well on a crystal clear flood coat so in some cases that 40 to 4000 grit is a bit of a myth .and trust me I know how to polish epoxy I’ve got good results with the polishing but it’s the trapped bubbles I get that does my head in but that’s because Ive used table top epoxy trying to cast but when I use the slow cure epoxy I get the better results.
    Man your resin is super clear you definitely know what you doing good to see 👌👌👌

    Hi. They turned out great! I've noticed that when I use a polish, I definitely need to ward off the wood with some tape to avoid it being absorbed into wood, since the finish (Rubio) doesn't look good if it absorbed any of polish. This is pretty hard and tricky when working with live edges that are super complex. Any ideas how to get the glass clear epoxy and satin wood in these projects without having to tape the wood away? Thanks! :))

    Great video. How long did you let the epoxy cure before sanding? I have found some epoxies will not sand properly unless they cure for 30 days. Usually I try after a week. Also are you using a 3/16 or 3/32 throw for your ROS?

    Beautiful craftsmanship - very impressive! I do have a question regarding your finishing technique... specifically, you mention sanding and polishing "just the epoxy portions," which makes sense, but obviously there will be some overlap onto the adjacent wood. That being the case, do you go back after the final polish and take the wood "back down" by hand sanding carefully up to the line? If so, what is the final grit that gets used on the wood (since Rubio only recommends going to 180)? Thank you!

    Great video! Very professional and professional!! I do love those tables and feeling inspired to give it a try. ..which actually brings me to my question. I am wondering how you would approach something like this but with a wood surface that is already finished to liking. I want to try "Shou Sugi Ban" (burning and staining the wood grain) but I realize that the finishing and sanding would remove the burned and stained wood effect. Perhaps the approach is obvious but my brain is stalling out haha
    Love your vid and already convinced to subscribe, hopefully I may come across an answer to my question in some of your other video's. If you have any video suggestion in mind I am definitely 'all ears',
    Thanks again for the great content, sorry about your troubles with that mold manufacture but I definitely respect you for your approach. People/business are all to quick to smear one another and it seams to me that in the world of smearing everyone gets dirty on both sides :p So than you for your example of class and maturity!

    With the polishing compound, if it gets on the wood is there any concern for that to adversely affect the finish?

    Where do you get the shell casings?

    • @perrys5954
      @perrys5954 Před 16 dny

      If that was a serious question and you aren't a shooter yourself you can buy spent casings (for those wanting to reload) in many gun-shops. I recall "Western Munitions" here where I live essentially has mixed brand as if it was picked up off the range after a day of people shooting so you'd get a nice visual variety if that's what you are into. Or heck just go as a guest with someone to an outdoor range and you are bound to find a bunch :)

    Excellent video. One suggestion: if you plan to apply finish to underneath the table I would probably do so prior to installing legs. Would seem to be more efficient than working around the legs and not having to present the edge to possible damage.

    They turned out pretty nice. I do wonder about using Rubio MC after you've sanded to 10k grit. Rubio recommends only sanding to 150gt for optimum results and since you've polished the wood so much, that's actually prohibiting the Rubio from penetrating into the wood. I think you'd be better off sanding the wood back down to 400gt and applying Odie's oil. Just my opinion though. I've been professionally finishing for over 35yrs. Still nice looking tables.

    • @TripleLRusticDesigns
      @TripleLRusticDesigns  Před rokem +1

      The wood is only sanded to 320. I forgot to mention it in the video. Only the clear epoxy is sanded to 10,000 grit

    • @primeboysander
      @primeboysander Před 10 měsíci

      But there is overlapping.. it's impossible to only sand the epoxy without sanding a little bit of the wood where it meets as well. So yes, some of the wood is sanded up to 10k, and overtime that will likely become more noticeable. Did the splattering of the polish stain the wood since you had not protected it yet?
