Since you can find plenty of notes about this miraculous work on the internet, I thought I'd write a few lines about the way it made my life better :
WHY THE LISZT SONATA CHANGED MY LIFE
When you play the piano, you are told since childhood that Liszt is a dubious figure: first seen as womanizer who writes music for pianists who love to show off, then as an abbot whose obscure and mystical end of life has given birth to works that are never performed. He is never considered as the major composer he is: we don't like womanizers or abbots! And yet without his musical innovations, Wagner, Mahler and many others might not have composed the masterpieces we know. Supreme sin, he has not known an unfortunate existence, an unforgivable flaw he shares with another great underestimated man, Mendelssohn. A life of suffering seems to be the sine qua non condition for being called a genius in the Western way of thinking.
In truth, those interested in Liszt's work will discover that he has composed a multitude of pieces - and not only for the piano - the depth and significance of which are overwhelming, including The Legend of St. Elizabeth or his symphonic poems, to name a few.
And then there's his sonata. This work is so important that Liszt would not have needed to write a single other bar to enter the Hall of Human Genius. Human? Actually, the question arises, because this sonata seems to be out of our reach, so much does its message elevate us. Indeed, the stretched bow from the first to the last note is like a bridge that climbs straight into the sky, its last chords are lost in limbo, giving you a glimpse of the dazzling light of eternity.
I've never played it without ending up with tears in my eyes. The journey is long, it breaks us, it resurrects us, it inflames us, and eventually lets us take the dimensions of the universe, or at least gives us a vision of it. How can we not be moved by such an experience?
For someone for whom Liszt is a spiritual guide in life, it is not insignificant to open the score of his sonata for the first time. It took me many years to dare to embark on its study, and in January, my intuition told me that it was time.
So I started working on it. I was assistant at the Meiningen opera house back then and during the afternoon break, like a mountaineer, I every day would climb a few more steps of this inner Everest. The sonata was beginning to exist under my fingers. Truth is, I was the one who was beginning to exist thanks to it. Perhaps the feeling of never having asked yourself who you really are sounds familiar to you? This is an impression I often have, because my restless daily life makes me be someone who defines myself by my actions, my interpretations, and I never took time to ask myself too many questions about my identity. But the sonata arrived, and its learning brought together all the little bits of me that were floating far from each other. It has given them unity, and meaning. The sonata introduced me to myself in a way, and every day that passed, I was the one who took shape under my own fingers.
Engrossed that we are in our daily lives, it very quickly happens to lose sight of oneself, and that is why I wish each of you to meet his own Liszt sonata! - Hudba

I also listened to her recording of Liszt's concertos. She always understands the intent of the composer very well. I feel that she inherited the spirit of Liszt.

Wow, what a performance! I finally got a chance to listen to this properly, and I just love the way you start from passages so gentle they might be lullabies and then build tension in a mesmerizing way until it is all released suddenly in a climax and the music becomes gentle again. It's hard to pick a favorite example, but one starts just after 12:00, continues gently for a bit, and then rises to a peak at 15:40 or so. You have the most wonderful ability to conjure the gentlest sound one moment, and build to a powerful climax shortly after. A joy to listen, thank you.

Além da excelente interpretação, com minucioso controle de andamentos e nuances esse piano fez toda a diferença!!! O trabalho das câmeras também torna essa gravação uma das mais prazerosas de se ver e ouvir. Bravo!!!!

I am on retreat in the California high desert and spent the day like an Abbott listening only to the wind the animals like the goat and the chickens nearby and my own thoughts fitting to break my fast and only one day fast from music listening to someone who embues mountain climbing with warmth Joy and humanism.

Quelle magnifique interprétation de cette sonate de Liszt. L'écoute de cette oeuvre m'a souvent cloué, paralysé, tétanisé. Ici, Beatrice Berrut l'a rend plus humaine, accessible et autenthique, sans en enlever ni de sa hauteur, ni de sa profondeur. Bravo et merci! Liszt est un génie.

wish i had something more articulate to say than thank you, but thank you, marvellous...ok, what makes your Liszt for me is the lack of bombast or cheap theatrics, which is how he is often played, you manage to play it with the same sensitivity you might give to Satie's Gnossienne (which i would love to hear you play, and the nocturnes!) .....and all the soulfulness you put into your Bach and Chopin....this, and Kempff, is how i like Liszt...Bravo!
As you mention it, I think we have to take Liszt as seriously as Beethoven or Bach. I mean, he wrote genius music, didn't he? There is no coming back from the sonata. Once you have played it, you are changed for ever.

Je me joins avec plaisir au concert de louanges que vous recevez dans les commentaires. J'ai écouté de (très) nombreuses interprétations de cette oeuvre, et la votre a réussi à me surprendre, je lui trouve une vraie originalité dans la qualité de l'expression émotionnelle. Je suis actuellement en train d'apprendre cette sonate à mon humble niveau amateur (il me reste encore quelques pages) et votre version est une réelle inspiration. Les notes sont une chose, c'est presque le plus facile car c'est dans l'interprétation et le sens musical que tout le travail se situe réellement, travail qui peut prendre des mois, des années... C'est en tout cas un puissant voyage intérieur pour moi... Pourrais-je, le cas échéant, vous poser une ou deux questions sur le plan technique ou musical au sujet de l'exécution de cette sonate? Je travaille sans professeur pour le moment et j'aurais bien besoin de quelques éclaircissements ^^ Bien à vous, et encore merci de nous faire partager votre talent.

Clara war von dieser Sonate aber nicht so begeistert. Lag wohl an Brahms schlechtem Spiel. Jorge Bolets Aufnahme ist nicht zu unterschätzen. :D Beatrice ich kenne das Stück so gut auswendig. Eines Tages sitzen wir gemeinsam am Flügel. Ich habe so viele Assoziationen und neue Ansätze.
Ja Bolet ist großartig in Liszt ! Es gibt auch eine live Aufnahme der Sonate mit Emil Gilels, die meine Welt verändert hat. Herzliche Grüße, Beatrice
Beautiful interpretation, but the final Grandioso is played very slowly, a strange transition from the Prestissimo.

@@BeatriceBerrut Then you need to slow down the Prestissimo earlier, because the triplets flow into the Grandioso. It is tempting to see Mephisto vs God here, and then silence...enter Gretchen.

Je ne crois pas que Brahms appréciait beaucoup Liszt, il regardait au contraire d'un très mauvais oeil les innovations musicales de son rebelle collègue ^^! Mais c'est bien pour ça qu'on aime Liszt :)
