    Hope you are well.
    Just to say the fly pattern you showed us a few months ago like a Black Gnat with Blue Tinsel ribshas produced 10 good Rainbows for me over the past month or so.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

      Little blue. A great pattern. Have got a few variations of it, just by changing the rib colour. But the blue is the most popular with everybody. Have done a few cruncher style patterns with it. They work too. The good thing with this pattern you can fish it static or really fast. Scott in glasgow catches a lot of Browns with it. Thanks for getting back to me with this David. Take care and good fishing mate. Shaun.

    Hi Shaun great video have fished there myself on holiday , with regards to fly life the fishery I go to is in the same boat no fly life or terrestrials on the water .
    The fly life on the fishery has collapsed over the past two seasons, no sedges or Olives or Mayfly all we have are small midges, they won’t chase lures.
    This fishery has trees all round and the owner keeps it in good order but he can’t understand what’s going on, neither can we most who fish there have fished the place for many years. I put it down to what’s happening all around poor farming practices and global warming.
    Regards Ian

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  Před rokem

      Exactly the same here Ian. Its a struggle when fishing. As you have said the fish are switched onto the Canis and not much else. OK it will be fine when we are on the stock fish. But the surviving fish will soon switch. We have been working on this for the past year or more. Bottom line is we are helpless, We can not do anything to improve insect life. We can plant as many trees as you like. But the problems are a lot greater than that, and the switch is happening so rapidly. What we are doing is stocking with small fish fry. We are having a diver go into the water with my GoPro so we can access the water. But even before he goes in I know that aquatic life is scarce. But putting in the fish fry will enable us to keep stock high and healthy. The one good thing with this, they will start chasing your lure again. As we find things out I will be putting it on the channel. Thanks for keeping me informed Ian. It all helps with the research. Take care mate. Shaun.

      Just seen that I had missed this comment. Sorry. I find some waters are good then others are just beyond. I bet if they drop a pound coin on the floor they would pick it up. They are giving the activist armour to tackle the anti fishing campaign. On one water where is was so bad I suggested notice boards as a reminder. The reality of the board I believe would not work. but it points it out. Something has to be done. Did think of contacting EA about issuing a line dispenser with every license. All they do is put a small fee on the license to cover the cost. My thinking is, if someone has a gadget they are more likely to use it. Shaun.

    The poor buzzer hatches are endemic. A consequence is that you have to adapt and try different methods and techniques. Most fly fishers have plenty of flies that have never had a swim - there ís no better time to experiment. My trip to Craigmore in Randalstown, NI yielded many full finned rainbows to a single size 14 traffic light cormorant on a midge tip. I usually fish nothing but small (18-22) dries.

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  Před rokem

      For most I think its a just in case fly. But your spot on there. Constantly trying something different is good. I have never had much luck with the cormorants. Most of my successful patterns are small. Have noticed the fish on our lake this year have been on the caenis more than ever before. I think this is a sign to come. Thanks for the comment. Shaun.

      As in the last video mate. Perfection loop of heavy line. Anything like 12 to 15lb. I can then loop onto my fly line. Then a Surgeons knot from the heavy line onto the tippet. Which for most of the time is 6 or 7lb. Doing this helps turn over and saves loads of money on tippet. As I never replace the heavy stuff. Should have the new video out in the next few days. Actually a few of the boys and myself are all starting to switch back to mono. The strangest thing is Steve's fishing has improved. Give it a go. Cheaper too. If this fails stick to one fly. @@coreywelsh9592 Corey you can have many methods with a single fly. Think about each fly as to where its best fished. High, mid or low. Then how fast or how slow. If you need a fly to be a few feet under the surface and fished slow or static. Don't be afraid of putting a short tippet on. The fish don't mind. I have a video on here somewhere fishing one foot tippet. Well two videos actually. And it works. Fish are spooked by line flash. And that is every time we cast. Let it rest a moment and the fish recover. They are not put off by fly line sat on the water. The best method to catch fish is your own confidence. But the moment you start thinking this method does not work I want to fish a w/m line. Your knackered, your confidence is going the wrong way. I don't know how your casting is, but as it improves you may find that the extra droppers will not be such a problem. But for now work on that single fly and your presentation. Think about what that fly is doing under the surface.
