    Clarification for anyone in need:
    2 strokes have an explosion that pumps the piston every 2 strokes (lol)
    4 strokes have an explosion that pumps the piston every 4 strokes (lol)
    So, 2 strokes run twice as hard.
    But 4 strokes still have some advantages when it comes to pulling power.

    • @Naked_Snake
      @Naked_Snake Před 9 lety +10

      But that would mean the 4S would have to spend twice the power of the 2S on running the stroke. The 2S would transfer most of that energy to the wheels.

    • @jessealston3529
      @jessealston3529 Před 9 lety +5

      Not true...4 strokes only ignite between the compression and power stroke(once per 2 full rotations of the crankshaft)

    • @Naked_Snake
      @Naked_Snake Před 9 lety +15

      Jesse Alston No, I meant 1 ignition will have to be able to rotate the crankshaft 2 revs in a 4S, thus reducing the energy transferred to the wheels. The 2S will give that power every revolution. So, the 2S would be more powerful.

    • @Naked_Snake
      @Naked_Snake Před 9 lety

      EpiDemic117 Oh yeah, I agree that the 2S will consume more fuel due to the wasted fuel. But I was talking about the power to stroke ratio, which you also mentioned.

    I like the very accurate clear explanation in this video.
    People often use the terms "2 stroke" and "2 cycle" interchangeably. And I've even seen it stated both ways on 2 stroke oil bottles. But the correct term is "2 STROKE", not "2 cycle". One internal combustion engine CYCLE takes either 2 or 4 strokes, making both 2 cycle and 4 cycle the WRONG terms. Just because they're used interchangeably, and even though some 2 stroke oil bottles say "2 cycle", that does NOT make "2 cycle" the correct term.
    I'm glad this video is here to give accurate information. Thank you.

    Okay so what I got from is that. 2-strokes arefaster and get more power going because it combusts every cycle(rather than everyothercycle) because it is intaking Fuel/air and releasing exhaust at the same time from the carburator (fuel mixture/crankcase + combustion chamber. =exhaust/fuel)
    Since it's so fast some of that fuel mixture dont get combusted/burned properly.

      Not quite, the two stroke is about half the displacement if you're comparing power output.
      4 strokes are generally more efficient and can be ran a bit more lean and at higher compression, so even at nearly double the engine size a 450 will use quite a bit less fuel than a 250 2 stroke.

    Michael Harrison from the DeepScience BIGENZ team has this to say:
    Most of what is written on advantages and disadvantages of 2 strokes Vs 4 strokes is not actually correct.
    Take for example the lubrication issue of 2 stroke engines, sure small chainsaw engines may have the oil mixed with the fuel but this is not a direct result of the engine being a 2 stroke, this is just a result of someone designing a very simple engine. look at any large Caterpillar, or Detroit 2 stroke they have conventional oil sumps, oil pumps and full pressure fed lubrication systems and they are 2 stroke!
    Also, the argument about valves of 4 strokes versus the reeds and ports of 2 strokes is also incorrect. Sure some simple 2 strokes may use very primitive systems to achieve the control of fuel/air mixture into the engine and exhaust out of the engine but again this is not a function of them being 2 stroke! I've worked on 2 stroke engines that feature poppet valves in the head (like a standard 4 stroke) - but they are definitely 2 stroke - it's just that engines like this are not so much in the public eye - next time an ocean liner (ship) pulls into port check out its 2 stroke, turbo charged, direct injected diesel engine!
    Finally, the arguments of simplicity, weight, power to weight, and cost of manufacturing are not a function as such of 2 stroke versus 4 stroke engines. The mistake of most of these commentaries is that they are comparing a simple chainsaw 2 stroke engine with a complex 4 stroke engine from a automobile - not a very fair comparison.
    As far as the exhaust emissions of 2 strokes - check out the Surrich/Orbital 2 stroke design that Mercury outboards are using - this is as clean burning as any 4 stroke.
    The ONLY correct comparison of 2 strokes with 4 strokes is that a 2 stroke can (in theory) produce twice the power of a 4 stroke for the same sized engine and the same revs.

    • @FuqUYouTube
      @FuqUYouTube Před 5 lety +1

      Excellent explanation!

    • @IFearlessINinja
      @IFearlessINinja Před 5 lety +2

      Very true. That is why all car manufacturers use 2 stroke engines over 4 stroke!
      Just kidding. Making up for the traditional flaws of 2 stroke compared to 4 stroke requires either premium (expensive) materials, higher tolerances (expensive), more complexity (expensive and heavy), the list goes on. By the time you make a 2-stroke just as efficient and effective as a 4, you have a prohibitively expensive engine, when you could have built an even better 4 at the same cost.
      2 Strokes are just more simplistic engines, which can be great for small machines, but bad when efficiency and high power are a priority

    Interesting, learned something today.
    We have mopeds here that are either 2 or 4 stroke. But any modern moped is 4 stroke due to them using much less fuel and spewing out less crap. The added complexity and higher price? Well, the consumer just has to accept that.
    The pro is that normal car fuel, gasoline, can be easily used. Unlike the "pre mixed" that was sold for a long time.
