      USA has the largest colonial empire in history: It defacto controls the entire EU, North & South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, & Philippines. By "control" I mean has the ultimate say in monetary policy, national defense (including military bases and integration of armed forces), and form of government (that aligns with American lead supranational organizations like NATO).
      As far as non-colonial empires, Mongols were the biggest.

      @ash Ketchum pokémaster lol I think you're just jealous bc your country hadn't a respectable large empire (which isn't something you should be ashamed of, anyways). It isn't anything personal, just doing what is better for your country and giving a better life to the persons that live in your nation. And yes, we should be impressed by how good these commanders were, I mean, they fought a lot of powerful nations and resisted. This is something very impressive

    • @robertulmeanu2981
      @robertulmeanu2981 Před 2 lety

      @ash Ketchum pokémaster you're speaking about crazy persons and systems idiot, now the world is changing, but obviously you're kind of racist if you tell me that I couldn't understand just because I'm European, which means that your country has been colonized, too (probably). Where are you from? You just don't want to accept that some countries are great and some countries are useless for the world and not developed. In this case, we're speaking about isolated situations; the society was built to make the tsars tyrants, the Africans slaves and the khan was a crazy person, but you're just making it dramatic. "Oh, conquests lead to death and destruction", you're right, but you can't make me isolated examples of things happened in history just to tell me that we can't make an interesting list about largest empires in history. Oh, and, I don't speak any germanic language, so (in your opinion) I may know nothing about history, but you should give me some respect because I know English pretty well at 12 years. And no, you can't just tell me that I'm an ignorant only because I'm not very old; small doesn't mean stupid and big doesn't mean intelligent

    • @robertulmeanu2981
      @robertulmeanu2981 Před 2 lety

      @ash Ketchum pokémaster I alr know that Romania doesn't have an important role in the world rn, and the only thing I said is that a country would be useless, in the sense that a country like Lesotho (or, more generally, a poor one) isn't useful for the world just because its economy doesn't work and so it doesn't help others facing the real powers (like USA or China). This is a true thing. In the case that the country develops, it could become useful for the world for growing technology, exploration, discoveries, culture, military, economy and all the stuff like that. Call me racist if you want, I think I am not; I don't critic other persons just for the country they come from (like you did, for example, saying that I can't understand because I'm European). I just think about what the country's role is and understand how the world would have been if that country never existed. Oh, about Russia, I found an utility of Romania; facing up Russia. Romania actually defended the other eastern countries, giving support, helping Moldova to politically beat Russia (something that happened like a weak ago), and is one of the developed economies of Eastern Europe, with the highest economical growth in Europe and a decent cultural influence, counting traditions, legends, folklore, food (fantastic food), history and things like UNESCO sites in the territory, with pretty important exportations and some of the most useful discoveries of the story (example, the insuline), fight for diricts and other important things. So, yeah, I have my reasons to include a country in the "useless" list. You still don't answer my question... Where are you from?

      Despite what you see, the Ottoman Empire was actually larger at it's height than Rome was at it's height. Most sources put the Ottoman Empire (1683) at 5.2 million square kilometers and the Roman Empire (117 a.d.) at 5 million square kilometers. It doesn't look that way on the map however but it is accurate.
      My guess is that the Ottoman Empire encompassed the Black Sea and so the area of the Black Sea is added to the total area of the empire. However in terms of land area, it is obvious that the Roman Empire was much larger.
