    in case of the ottomans dont forget they hold back the crusaders, fought against the mongols, ended the dynasties of the eastern roman empire and mamlukes, competed later with the russian empire in the north and with the portuguese empire on sea (especially for trade routes in the meditteranian sea and indian ocean) and still managed to exist for more than 600 years. Portugal was quite important back then, they did the unthinkable in many ways, they did what others wouldn’t dare doing, and voyaged far and beyond with the ships back then.

Their choice to follow the west and modernize putting them decades ahead of their isolationist neighbors by using the tech that rapidly developed during Europe’s industrial revolution 2. The Ottoman Empire could not boast of any technological achievements like the British Empire, or large territories like the Russian Empire, it did not even have colonies in remote parts of the world like Spain or France. Its influence on world culture and science is minimal and cannot be compared with such giants as the Roman Empire or the British Empire. Me, a Chinese, feel Qing is a little bit underrated, though I don't think it is the best empire in Chinese history. But the Manchus started as a small group of people in Northeast Asia and they managed to take over Ming, a big state/empire, and sustain an imperial rule for almost 300 years. But like I said, I don't think it's the best example of Chinese empires. Qin Empire implemented a centralized bureaucratic system and some great infrastructures (what Chinese love for more than 2000 yrs), and Tang Empire had a really open-minded and cosmopolitan culture at its heyday.
    I am trying to be neutral, but I guess my nationality might affect my understanding about the Japanese Empire. It was not easy for Japan to expand, but Japan really failed to tamed the land it occupied and collapsed even faster than Qin Empire. I will rank it a tier beneath the British Empire for sure.

    • @XenSolation.
      @XenSolation. Před 10 měsíci

      The Qing is maximum A tier but I agree it was definitely underrated during this video. It's artistic culture had a huge impact on modern day art.
      However, it was an extremely unstable empire following the industrial revolution due to its refusal to modernise and industralize. Many rebellions broke out between the native groups such as the Taiping Rebellion, the Dungan Revolt, the White Lotus rebellion etc. The political climate of the country meant foreign powers could take advantage which had ultimately led to the empire's demise when the Xinhai revolution had struck. They were defeated numerous times and made fools of, having to cede Taiwan in the first sino-japanese war (treaty of Shimonoseki) and having to cede Hong Kong to the British following the first opium war (treaty of Nanking).
      It had been the richest nation in the world in both the 17th and the 18th century, which is what imo makes it deserving of a higher spot. However, its military prowess was insufficient for the period's omnipresent militaristic policies.

    Cyrus the Great was the first person writing the Human rights,
    their empire was larger than Alexander's and lasted a lot longer(about 250 years),
    They invented the first post system,
    They ruled not by fear but by respecting other cultures, languages and religions,
    There are a lot more but one of the most important:
    During the Persian Empire 44.4 precent of world's population lived under the rule of Persian Empire and this makes them the closest Empire to world domination in history.

      Yeah, I was also kind of a weeaboo like Drew when I was younger but I came to realize the Japanese empire isn't underestimated, it's the opposite: Japan as an empire is overestimated objectively speaking.
      They had a big navy but overall they were lacking behind the West in term of industries and their military budget remained limited most of the time. Their peak gdp (just before WW2) was a bit below France (despite Japan having almost double the population on the mainland), I won't even compare with Britain and Germany.
      They were effective I won't deny it, and outstanding soldiers (able to obey any order). But in the end, a lot of their initial successes in WW2 had to do with fighting weak opponents. They were isolated as the only great power in the far east, it wasn't competitive like in Europe.
      I still adore Japan and their empire is super interesting in many aspects, but in terms of power and influence, let's be real, they are overrated. Probably because we all love their culture and products nowadays.

    Before Philip the Second (Alexander the Greats father) there wasn't really much organization in armies at all.. just a mismatch of all your troops in a blob (a bit exaugurated but still, archers weren't separated from other infantry ect.) And that was only in Macedonia and took ages for everyone to fully modernize and organize their militaries. Due to this I would rate any empires before that much higher I think than what you put.. Babylon I would put in A, Eygpt in S because not only did they have that much land but were also one of if not the first 'country' ever, which is an extremely impressive feat if you consider before that the largest countries were simply a city or 2.

Hardly anyone knows that much about the Holy Roman Empire; but if you are an Empire that not that many people know much about but last for over 1000 years, then you are underrated to say the least.
