    Nice job, I’m an old guy, but I really love Chris Dave style…..I’ve also been digging into the J Dilla history.

    Wow, you blew my mind with the metric modulation. I had a few simple 3:2s but yeah, that's some college level stuff. Take me a few weeks to get that down

    Great lesson! You should do one on Richard Spaven. He's got a lot of similar abstract licks I can't seem to figure out.

      +Patrick Cleland Yup he's starting to blow up. He actually reminds me of me a little, except WAY better:P

  • @jocquidixonmusicproduction988

    See its easy to do the sticking and patterns of the greats like Chris and Mark but the real problem is doing what they do IN TIME! LOL
    Its like you see the pattern, and your like "wow thats pretty simple and easy" then you look at where its placed in time and its like a whole other dimension!
    Great lesson

    What's up Nate. Wondering if it would be viable for you to do a video showing us how you go about transcribing. Can't find much of that around and I'm starting to understand just how beneficial it is. Cheers for your videos, they are good to watch.

    do you think dave is conscious of all this stuff when he comes up with it or does he just play it?

    • @8020drummer
      @8020drummer  Před 9 lety +3

      +Danny Boatright I think we're all conscious when we find a cool concept to mess with, but when we're playing we're just hearing a track of ourselves in our heads and making it happen in the external reality. I think a great analogy is food - sometimes chefs will get inspiration from unconventional sources, and they'll experiment with weird preparation methods, but at the end of the day what tastes good is what tastes good:)

    Sounds like your flamming that cymbal and snare on the + of 4 in the beginning. Is that intentional? Last note of the triplet or the + of 4 in straight feel?

    I really love this style o drumming. Im 57 and played rock n punk fora long time. I admire metal drummers but never liked the music. Gospel drumming and drummers are the shit man. I know its mostly trips but its incredibly inovative and creative.
