Howdy y’all, thanks for stopping by!
Hope you enjoyed revisiting these funky cowboys as much as I did, and hope there was some helpful info tucked away in this video! °˖✧🤠✧˖°

(And hey, if you have any Clip Studio tips n’ tricks of your own, please do feel free to share your own recommendations with everybody here in the comments! Let’s get those creative vibes flowin’! 😤👌🏻)
Some tip on clip studio, there is a clipping layer. And you can even clip folders. I always select from lineart and make a base color and clip a folder to it, and then I can color easier.
Hey, ABD. do play on making a comic book about cowboy's?
Hello! I have a question about the program. On the website it shows two versions, PRO and EX, which one did you use and which would you recommend?
@@p.a.c.346 Oh! PRO is the "basic" version, and EX has a couple of expanded features for animation and other more professional/studio-level work! I just have the PRO version at the moment and it has more than enough features for the kind of work I use it for. (If you feel you need to though, I believe you can upgrade to EX at a discount if you're already using PRO!) (^^)/
I love your voice.
Alex: *Looking at an old story*

@@neonpinkqueen1403 Your absolutely correct🤣👏
@Reseted Kitsune There must be more gay!!!
The eye movements on your avatar is such a nice touch, a little thing that adds. So much energy!
The plants are slowly moving too 😳

Is anybody else jealous of how crisp and beautiful the line art is? Cause I definitely am.
Bruh I am 😔
Me toooooo!!!!!!! It's always my favorite part to watch happen! I really want to be able to create lineart as BEAUTIFUL as his!
Alex: I redrew this old comic page of mine to practice coloring in Clip Studio.
Us: You wanted to make it gayer?
Alex: I wanted to make it gayer.
my friend and i have been doing a little thing where we're working on a comic one chunk at a time. I believe I did the first chunk, and then I passed it onto my friend to do the second, and we just go back and forth building a story and building off of what the other made in their last part. Let me say, boy did the last one help with my creation process, and this one feels equally inspiring. really looking forward to moving on with the stuff I've learned from this video!
That's so cool! I'd like to see what you two made together 😃
@Reseted Kitsune yeah, my friend and i were always talking about how we have ideas for stuff but we're too lazy to actually put it into practice, so i thought of this as a way for both of us to have someone pushing us to keep working
@@gijane0014 so far it's been really fun. At the moment it's still super sketchy and unfinished, but hey, maybe someday we'll refine it
@Reseted Kitsune you totally should! It's been really fun so far

High hopes low rolls gang!!!
Alex looking at old story's and art:
This could be improved...
And gayer
it can always be gayer
Maybe it wasn't intentional, but the redrawn characters look like they grew up since the original, like they matured along with your abilities :)
Me, Drawing: Man I'm probably working WAY too big doing shit in 300 dpi-
ABD: Yeah I work in 600 dpi
Me: YOU FUCKING *WHAT*
Me doing pixel art on a 16 by 16 pixel canvas: wtf is wrong with ya'll? 0.0
😅
If you are ever only publishing your work online, working at 300 dpi might never be needed (though there are still some advantages). But if you think it's possible you might print hard copies someday, at 100% scale, 300dpi is minimum professional print quality. 600dpi sharpens up antialiasing (and decreases stair-stepping and pixilation if not antialiasing) especially useful in black and white work or any work with sharp edges. 600dpi also allows you to blow parts up when reusing art within your comic (for a close-up, say) as well as in larger promotional pieces like posters.
The choice to make it a spread instead of a single page was SO smart, it really lets the action and characters breathe. Love seeing artists get comfortable working in my favorite program ❤
ah yes my daily dose of "remaking my old stuff to be gayer" perfect
I re-made myself to be gayer, turned out ok

Using townscaper to get references is such a cool idea, definitely a Chad move
alex these characters are incredible, would u consider doing a concept corner episode for this comic? i would love to learn more about them!! :))
Yes please!!
REVISION OF THE COMIC
The thing about text size was honestly SO Helpful! It's something that's been confusing me for ages XD
When you posted the teaser I pulled out my copy of West to see if anything matched and I GUESSED THIS EXACT PAGE!! Literally I’m so happy, I adore West, I’ve read it almost every week since I bought it. It’s a comic that I’m just very happy to revisit. I’m so happy to see you revisiting it, it looks incredible in your new style!! I love this so so so much!!!!
Oh boy, I love seeing more people discovering the wonders of CSP!
Sooooo here are some more tools that some of ya may find useful :
"enclose and fill" (next to all the fill/bucket tools) = you loosely select an area and it fills everything that is inside your lineart. Keep in mind that you don't need to use it on the same layer as the lineart one
In Filter > correct line> adjust line width. Makes your lineart thicker or thinner BUT another good use for this is that sometimes when I fill stuff in with the enclose and fill, it ends up a few pixels bigger or smaller than my lineart, so I can just quickly resolve that
Edit> convert to drawing color - converts everything on the current layer into the color you have selected - useful for changing the color of you lineart for example
Correction layers - put this bad boy on top of you drawing and you can play around with the contrast hue blah blah blah WITHOUT affecting any layer underneath. It may seem obvious for some people but I didn’t know about them for a long time T^T
BIG THING: yall need to learn to use the Quick access menu. I swear to God it's so fucking useful. Basically in that lil' box you can put different tools and commands so instead of having to go looking for the adjust line width (for example) you just have all ya need in one place. (auto actions are also something like that but with multiple commands: like you can create a new layer, clip it to the layer below and set it on multiply, name this action "shadow layer" or smth like that and then Bam! From now on you can do all of these things with one click)
The navigator window: so you can always see your drawing full even when you are zoomed in, on that window you also have a quick way to flip you canvas to check for mistakes, you can a also use it to zoom in and out or to move around your canvas.
The selection pen and erase selection tools can also be helpful
the lasso fill - combines the lasso selection and the bucket tool in one
THE MULTIPLE LAYER ERASER- for when u can't find THAT ONE ANNOYING DOT
I'm gonna comment so I can come back to these tips, cheers!
Same👍
Ok, so your first CSP video actually convinced me to buy it and it’s sooooooo lovely. Thank you for finally convincing my dumb butt to make my own art life easier, and I love seeing you bloom more and more as an artist. You (and all the shrieking wizards) rock! ♥️
"bigger, better, and much, much gayer"

beautifully said Alex, beautifully said
Perfect timing!! I'm working on a comic in Clip Studio Paint!

“Guys, gals, and nonbinary pals”
I love this, if a character in any stories I write ever give a speech, I’m using this XD
This is so so cool! I always enjoy watching your videos because of how calming you are as a person and just how satisfying they are
Edit: if Lawrence says "say... West?" and gets interrupted i will throw a chair
alex: so hear me out. sci-fi cowboys-
me: YES
alex: -and make it gay
me: _immediate hyper fixation_
Early gang!
Yeye
Early gang!!!
I love whenever you revisit old work like this, its really inspiring as a comic artist myself :)
This page looks wonderful!
I've really been thinking about getting clip studio since medibang doesn't have good text tools and it is designed for comics so it's nice when videos like this display the tools you can use
if you have a wacom tablet and register it on their website, sometimes there’s special offers included like getting programs for free !!
i found out about it and i got the whole of csp for free and i love it :)
I love the black eye whites, it’s so cool. I am FOR SURE stealing that for my Warlock PC
As a beginner artist i didnt think i would learn much but i definitely learned a lot about clip studio paint tools for coloring that ive noticed lots of artists use by looking at their drawings but been unable to identify myself what they were using until i watched this so im very grateful!
I always really love the kinda cross-y lines under West’s eyes in the original and I’m so happy to see I love the little scales EVEN MORE!!
Alex, you uploaded, like, 10 seconds before Matt and Beth went live! XD I started here and had to run away and come back!
It's so soothing to listen to you talk about your art, the techniques you use, all of it! I sincerely hope lots of up-and-coming artists find their way to your page, because the way you explain everything is so clear and kind.
As someone who works in print i appreciate so much that youre mentioning the edges! So many of my costumers dont understand bleed and it makes my heart cry because it looks so much better when you know cutting the page wont remove anything or leave white lines!
CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH !!!!!
Alex, please don’t tease. I’m gonna need this comic in my collection. A gay sci-fi western is amazing and I will buy in a heartbeat, especially when it’s you!
Dude, Heartless and West made me fall in love with the black sclera all over again!
4:25 I personally love seeing how the changes you made in the page layouts greatly impact the feel of the scene, it made it feel more like almost a movie than a book
Wait I've just rewatched this for the 6 thousandths time. Just about and just now noticed the "Guys, Gals, and Nonbinary pals" it reminded me so much of the guy ,Adams, little intro during the skate finals from Skate the Infinity, and I absolutely loved it.
I LOVE the two-page layout! The interruption happening on the next page keeps the readers in suspense, and the slight tilt/characters breaking the panels are just *chef's kiss* This just looks so much more professional than the original. Really shows how much you've grown in the last few years artistically!
“And make it a lot gayer then I could back then”
Me: “noice.”
I love putting on your speedpaints while I toy around with my own art. Listening to your process & watching you break down everything bit by bit is extremely valuable! Thank you so much
This caught me by surprise I remember reading your comic such a long time ago and this made me feel so nostalgic and unexpectedly emotional haha. Thank you for sharing your process it’s always fun to watch and I always find myself inspired by your work!
I love your art it inspires me so much and it played a huge roll in my journey through art and trying to become a digital artist!
I started (quietly) chanting “make the hat come outta the panel!” And then u did and I’m so unreasonably happy
Alex: gay space cowboys
me: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
Go give it to him! Buy the West comic here: www.lulu.com/spotlight/westcomic
What great improvement. I mean, it's been, like, four years, so there should be no doubt that you've improved, but it's nice to hear what you learned over the years to improve your work and why. Like, I loved the part where you discussed the layout of the panels. I was getting so into it! XD
As a bisexual, it seems that I've come across a predicament with ABD's channel. And that is that I fall in love with literally every character he makes.

I love how you do faces, most importantly the eyes and noses! Subtle details make the difference and I'm in loooooooove
Every single time I watch one of your videos, I get inspired to pick up that pen again. Every. Single. Time.
You've given me a lot to think about. I've been working on a series for a few years and I haven't even finished one volume! Seeing videos like these really motivate me to keep going and try out new techniques. Thank you :)
The way you re-did comic page layout really did help capture the vibe you were going for.
Alex is my favourite VTuber 🥺 the little movements of your avatar are so fantastic!
Completely unrelated, but I noticed the little plants at the beginning move slightly back and forth
I just realized, Lawrence slightly looks like your interpretation of Rook
I'd like to see a video on how you made your speech bubbles! These wobbly but clean at the same time and that's so cool!
god i just am a lil jealous of the editing on the sprite work. Its so FLUID for something so small in the video and I respect the drip so much. The blinks, the eyes. I love it
Alex, like the true gay man that he is, always includes some gay panic in his comics, and I love that for him.
Thank you for making videos. Your voice is so soothing, and your life attitude can help me through my worst days. There's no particular reason I'm commenting this now of all times, just that I've been meaning to for a few months now... Thank you. Your videos feel like a warm cup of tea with an unconditionally non-judgemental friend, and they bring me joy and peace. Just- thank you.
I've been watching a ton of your comic videos and concept corner videos as background noise as I make examples of my own comic for my university portfolio- The videos help a lot and make me more confident with my comic process- Thank you so much.
Really happy about a new video from you, I already know it's gonna make my day ways better!
I really love your comic/manga redraws. You can learn so much from it and I am a total fan of the sketch/layout phases in such projects 🥰 thank you
You deserve a good million subs. Your art is amazing and inspiring, and your voice is awesome. You are so cool, and can’t wait for the day you reach 1mil subs!
hey Alex, really love the vids, you have always been a big inspiration for me, so thank you for everything you do and the amazing art you produce with your pure talent! I always love when you put little art tips or useful sites or programs in the vids, they really help a lot! Thank you for showing me, and im sure many others, the amazing world that is art
Dude you added that sun and sky in and MWA chefs kiss it like pulled all the colours and shading together
Recently, my favorite features of CSP are the vector tools and auto actions. Nowadays, I do my line art in a vector layer because it still looks hand drawn and with the vector eraser I can make quick and clean adjustments without distorting the image too much. The auto action feature is also great because it automatically do certain things for me such as adding multiple layers with pre-set blending modes and names and so much more. It saves a lot of time. My favorite use of it is automatically trimming my comic pages, especially when I have the Pro version where it doesn't have the option to multi-export my comic pages.
Coloring-wise, the paint bucket tool is so diverse and makes coloring the flats very convenient and fun. One way is how you can set the bucket to close the gaps in a certain way so that it won't bleed through the places you don't want it too. So even if your line art is a little loose or has some gaps, it's convenient :D
Overall, love the video and the comic page looks so good. I also downloaded the cloud brush and I love it XD
It's been so nice to see you working in Clip Studio with comics and such. It's made me want to do character design and comics again...!

how can i love your youtube sooo much ?? your voice is so soothing and your art is so cleannn, i specially love the videos where you draw a bunch of characters and kinda explain them, so good !!!

if you do like those other marker tools except for the overlapping there's actually an easy fix for that. If you look at the brush settings for "blending mode" you just change that to normal and they won't do that anymore
OMG thank you for this! I love your style!
I swear watching your videos makes me SO motivated to just start drawing and learning.
It's so insane how motivated i can get by watching your videos, so i very much love your channel!
i love the way ABD inks! His style is something I admire greatly ✨
Those little pink petals you added in the last panel are really cute!!
I adore the way you explain how you change the layout! I've been really wanting to get into making comics lately but don't quite know how or where to start. I think you give really good advice though and if I do ever try my hand at making a comic I'll try to keep it in mind!
I hope you have a lovely day/afternoon/night.

I love the little sprites you have! They look so cool!
Honestly I love everything about csp so much. I got so used to not so great free art programs that I nearly cried when I used csp for the first time and everything was so much nicer and easier and my art came out smoother and everything.
