First speedpaint of 2021! Feels good to be making videos again \(^^)/
Today, I’m taking a page from one of my oldest original manga series’, and bringing it up to date by redrawing it completely digitally! Hopefully there’re plenty of helpful tips n’ tricks in here for any of y’all who are also looking to get into making manga of your own.

Yeah I feel like it was less stiff and the pose on top was really dynamic, the new one looks a little flat and boring. No it's not very high quality but it's more interesting, but each to their own and if Abd likes his new style more than good for him!
@@sarahp3150 I agree. the pose of the guy falling wasnt really that dynamic and it felt like the guy just didnt care about falling. However, I think the pose wouldve looked cool in another environement (like space IG)
@@sarahp3150 I think the different versions are trying to show different emotions! The first version looks like a high-stakes horrific moment, but the second version shows muted shock like a “oh no” and gives a pause so the next panel can be comedically horrified.

Hey sorry if anyone else has said this but. I'm a graphic designer and I thought I would give some helpful tips to everyone. For type you should never go below 8 point font. Though it might be tempting, anything smaller gets really hard to read in both digital and hard copy. Also if your going to use different fonts for different things. Try to stick to 2 to 3 max type faces. The more fonts you use in a comic the more complicated it'll be to keep track of A. B it'll start looking messy and clumsy if you're not careful. There's nothing wrong with experimenting with type but keep it clean and easy to read. Though type doesn't always need to be readable for a comic its impotent. Hope this helps.

Alex already said it but WOW paneling makes such a big difference in the overall feel of the comic. New version is better in a lot of ways, but the most noticeable to me is how much clearer and easier it is to read.
The fact that you can easily get a bunch of assets instead of drawing it yourself is really making me consider getting this...
Also, great video, Alex! You really covered a lot of features, and also covered navigating the UI, (The hardest part of using any application like this for me. 😅 [So you’re not the only one, heh]) which helps. You’re making me want to read the manga series of yours. 🙂

Quick tip: Use vector layers for lineart, it makes it so much easier and faster to draw. I don't really know how to explain it so maybe google a tutorial or play around with them on your own.

I like the old comic's drawing of the guy falling. I know the composition was bad because it took up half the page, but I really like how dynamic and expressive he is when the rope breaks and you can see the panic on his face! :)

I’m so glad you going over clip! I bought it for college, because I’m a sequential art major and I was told that this program is what EVERYONE and the their mother uses this program in the industry. I LOVE clip and now it’s the only program I use.

You don't even know how helpful this is 😭 I use csp for a hobby comic online but even after 3 years there's a lot that needs improving. This definitely makes some of the assets and features seem a bit less intimidating

i think something important to remember that alex does do in this is go over the custom assets to see if it looks natural and clean. repeatable asset use becomes VERY noticable if you use them a lot in comics/manga, so go over what you palced down to see if there's any small things you can add that don't take much time (such as adding the freyed edges of rope!)
