A favourite manga of mine is Shimanami Tasogare, or, Our Dreams At Dusk. It's a lovely LGBTQ+ manga about self discovery, understanding and what it's often like living as someone who isn't straight, cis or allosexual. Some of the comic panels are so fucking incredible to look at too.

i was thinking about shinanami all the time too. It really is amazing, and so artistic at portraying the character's feelings
I’ve been wanting to read it for so long but since I’m broke I haven’t been able to purchase the actual volumes and none of the probably illegal sites I use have it T^T if you recommend anywhere to read it that’d be great

I feel like you would really enjoy "Witch Hat Atelier"! It has an amazing art style that looks like it's inspired by fairy tale books or tarot cards! The story is also very cool and interestinng too!!!

Aaaah, I'm so in love with WTA! I bought the first volume because the cover was pretty and ended up completely in love with the main char!
I even bought one volume twice because my first one was badly printed (brazilian problem maybe? t~~t) and I just COULDN'T not have the most perfect print too look at all the details for hours!
Not to mention that as artists the magic system is just... AAAARRG, SO PERFECT and dream-like! And the main char is good with straight lines because tailoring!!! AND-

The reason dolly kill kill Ended so abruptly was because it was canceled. The author had to Rush the ending hence the unsatisfactory conclusion. It’s a shame really since it was very good.
Now I'm just imagining a spider verse like crossover between all of the versions of your character

@@jojoschauman6055 nice. While I don’t name my guitars, I do name unique bits. For example, my D’Angelico has what I call a “devil horn” on it because it makes it a devil to play sitting. Decided to get a strap with a Celtic cross on it because D’Angelico (angel) and a bit of irony of a cross on a guitar that’s a devil to play sitting.
I’m gonna check out Apple Black and Radiant! I kind of didn’t notice how big the differences were between each style until the ending lineup.
Yeah, the end lineup really made me realize the differences.

All of your drawings recently have this super nice weight to them; I don’t know if I’m articulating this correctly, but your avatar/other characters all feel real in a sense. It’s exceedingly pleasing to look at/ watch evolve. Thank you so much for your art and your time, it genuinely brightens my day when I see a new video’s out.
I literally screamed when I saw Blue Flag on the list (I'm not joking, I literally sent my friends a video with me screaming about it haha). Also I didn't know the author of Dolly Kill Kill made another manga. I'm defently gonna check that out.
But overall you translated these styles so well into your character and, at least for Blue Flag bc that's the only one I read on here, it gave me the same feel as when I read the manga and saw the drawings. Wich is basically "WOAH OMG SFHSJSFJ I MIGHT JUST CRY" :,)
Woah! It's so cool to see artists step outside their comfort zone and try completely different ways of drawing! You nailed these styles in my perfectly honest opinion and I envy your pen choices. Another immaculate video, Alex! Keep up the amazing work!
I read Ao no Flag on your recommendations and I was blown away! They tackled so many important issues and perspectives so delicately. It was so refreshing to see characters like Mami and also have the characters engage in serious conversation about their thoughts and beliefs. I cried a little towards the end and I loved all the characters so so so much! I'll def buy the Manga series when I can, thank you so much for introducing me to this beautiful piece (also the art ugh *chefs kiss)
Looking at the different art styles Alex drew himself in, I get this feeling that these could be different alternate versions of him from a different timeline. That would be interesting.All these drawings look amazing Alex❤️

The guitar struggle is SUCH A MOOD.
In art school, first year, my ignorant self decided to do a "mute musical band" project.
So I had to draw a short comic about a bunch of mimes who feign playing music, in a library.
Basically air guitar with props. I suffered.
Dude, I am so thankful for your videos. Watching them just makes me WANT to draw. I could be neck-deep in an art block and be like "oh abd posted. i guess its time to draw"

I just recently started reading blue period, and the VERY FIRST chapter made me CRY. It was so relatable and hit home just in the right way, I just couldn't stop crying. I binge-read all the chapters the same day and tried to find a physical copy the next day in my fav manga shop - couldn't find it sadly.
I did order it now tho. And your avatar in that art style? Absolutely gorgeous, I love it so much.
Blue period just inspires me to do more art like I did in school, instead of just doodling manga characters in my sketch book over and over. I can't stress how much I love it.

been a couple years, and this video's been my go-to for character art block, and also to say that this got me into blue period (it's a massive ouch sometimes, real jugular punch, but i LOVE it, especially the spreads) :D

Oh I LOOOOOOOOOVED THIS!!! I love art style challenges in general, but I love learning about art that I've never heard of before, as far as manga and stuff goes. Definitely need to give all of these series a go

Absolutely showstopping. I will always be astounded by your ability to draw in many different styles, have the character you're drawing (often yourself) be recognisable in each, and to make each interesting to look at, since seeing the same character over and over could be repetitive if they're in the same pose. It's so inspiring.

YOU ARE SO DAMN TALENTED! All of these look absolutely amazing, and you were able to replicate the different aspects of the different styles perfectly! This was an amazing video!
oooh, the tablet pen being your weapon in apple black is so cool! i know you said it'd mostly work with magic ink, but when you first said tablet pen my mind jumped to all the interesting features art programs often have and how you could manipulate them and use them in the real world. expanding perspective guides in front of you that you can shift and manipulate to change the landscape that's in front of it! using a fill bucket tool on a person to douse them in red ink so it's impossible for them to hide! locked layers set to objects or areas you've covered ink that nothing can physically touch or change! hell, having the ability to *erase* alone would be a wild power to have!
I adored how your character looked in each of the different styles. I have personally read a few of these and they do deserve way more love. I would have to say I would love to see what other underrated manga styles you could do or maybe for a different idea you could draw your character as if they were in a specific genre of manga. Basically how would they look in a shoujo, shonen, and others.

While seeing each of the drawings being made it was hard for me to pick up on diferences they might have, but then seeing them all togeather they look completely different! Very cool!
