    Might be time for me to go back to Android/Samsung from an iPhone. I really should be using health tracking overnight, but I just can’t use a watch or anything else. Ring would be perfect and I just didn’t like Oura’s switch to subscription system. Here’s hoping Samsung won’t do subscription system as well.

      Ya even though it's comparatively cheap the subscription idea was stupid. I upgraded from a gen 2 ring to a gen 3 ring and they gave me a lifetime free subscription but if they didn't offer that. I would not have ever bought a gen 3 ring.
      It's the same reason I like Garmin devices, no subscriptions.

    • @RitaElKhoury-AA
      @RitaElKhoury-AA Před 3 měsíci +11

      Samsung didn't answer that question, but if you ask me, I would bet not. Smaller companies like Oura need the subscription model to survive and provide updates over time. It's not greed, it's common sense for any start-up that wants to stick around for more than a couple of years now. A company at the scale of Samsung can afford to throw the ring for free with a Z Fold 6 pre-order in August and not lose a dime. Different beast altogether. Plus, if the Galaxy Watch 6 (or any Watch or Fit before it) doesn't require a subscription, why would a Ring do?

    I like the idea of the rings, however what I really want is the EU to require all fitness devices to open up their info, and be cross compatible. I want my data, to move it to my choice of app, and to retain it permanently. I want to be able to have my watch/tracker and a ring, and the phone, and my scales and have all that data with me forever to build up a better picture of my health over time and progress. I'm currently using a Fitbit, and some third party smart scales. I don't have any confidence I can keep my data in a format I can move it around and that's not helpful at all. I neither want to be locked in, nor losing data if I transfer ecosystems.

    I know, media-wise, the Galaxy watch does way more than my Apple Watch, but as far as health-related stuff, I think the two ecosystems are pretty evenly matched, though IMO the Samsung Health system isn't quite as robust. Firstly because I'm an Apple guy in that ecosystem, but I also know Samsung Health doesn't have medication tracking, which I use throughout the day on the Apple side. I'm not sure what other discrepancies exist on either platform.
    That said, I don't see a place for a ring in my daily use. I'm not sure if Apple will follow suit after a couple years, though that has been their M.O.. They're gonna wait and see what works and what doesn't, and then smash the market like they did with the iPod, iPhone, and the iPad, mostly. But, I don't see Apple cutting into Watch sales. I think rings is something, like custom launchers, Apple is just going to let the Android world have for itself, noting, as said, that the Oura product works with their Health app. Maybe even promoting it.
    I don't really see any Samsung product "killing" anything it competes with. The Galaxy S24 Ultra looks to be one of the best Android phones of all-time, if not the best, but sales don't reflect that. Apple has the top 7 spots for phones sold here in the US. Like Samsung, they lead not with the premium models, but the cheaper ones, which are good enough for most. But, even iPhone's Pro and Pro Max models dominate even the cheap "free with contract" Android phones, like the base Galaxy S23 and S24 models. I like that Samsung is trying to compete in the premium market, but I'm not sure how viable that will be for them.

      My issue with Samsung is that currently, the watch has poor sleep tracking. I do agree with sleep score cuz days I have 80 or higher I do actually feel great. But when it comes to tracking deep sleep and stuff, it's always off. Like how did I get 18 minutes of deep sleep in an 8 hour period.
      Alternatively, I do like that the watch can auto detects sleep and start recording vs iPhone where you have to enable sleep focus for it to work

      As I said in the video, I've been wearing the Oura Ring for over a year. It's better for sleep tracking (less invasive, more comfortable), the battery lasts over 6-7 days, and it's just easier to wear and inconspicuous. A watch has to be extremely well designed to go from the gym to a dinner party. Plus, a lot of people just don't need notifications and a display, they just want the tracking in a simple form factor. I think it's a lower bar for entry for more "normal" users than a smartwatch.

    • @lemonsquese8117
      @lemonsquese8117 Před 3 měsíci

      @Khoury-AA I get your argument to an extent but you can just disable notifications on your phone and on your smart watch completely or only have certain notifications on your phone/smart watch like text messages, weather etc. However you can have a sleep tracking on your phone and on the Samsung Galaxy watch as well and since it's mounted on your wrist you don't have to worry about ring sizes since you can adjust the band to your wrist. The point i'm making is what can a smart ring do that a smart watch can't do and why would you need it from a buyers point of view. Nearly 300 euros just for sleep tracking device alone is expensive for most people. To put this in caparison you can get a used older generation Apple Watch or even a used Galaxy Watch for less then 300 euros in most cases and you can have all the features from a smart ring for less money in most cases. Plus if you wan't inconspicuous design then you can buy Samsung Galaxy Watch Classic Edition and there is no subscription needed as well. I spoke to most of my colleagues at work and one of them does have a Samsung Galaxy Watch and nobody want's to buy it because it's a gimmick and best.
      If you enjoy it power to you but at the end of the day you have to make a product that is appealing enough for people to buy it in the first place and I just don't see that ever happening with the Galaxy Ring, Samsung might kill it off after the second generation because I predict it won't sell very well.
