In this video I show you how to make a simple ring out of 18 gauge wire. This ring is the base for so many other styles. You're going to have fun with this one. My technique will give you a strong, perfect shank and more precise sizing. I also included a second style to show you how to get down with your funky self.

I love the holding at the start technique, use to get so frustrated trying to hold the wire on the mandrel and it's great can use this for bracelets too thx

thank you for a wonderful tutorial. I make rings with beading and clay. When it's done, I put it on a handmade ring base. This is a wonderful technique and I just made one and glued the cabochon/beading on it. I am so pleased!

WOW!! Thanks SO much Liz! I sat entraced through the making of those 2 copper rings....couldn't believe how easy you made it look! I am going to HAVE to give it a try! I think my granddaughter's would just LOVE them. (Once my daughter's see them, I think they will want some too!!) I am in South Australia & I it is only 5.30am here atm. I woke up very early! I have made jewellery before, so I have all the tools. Can I just say, I know it must be difficult for whoever holds the video camera, or whatever you're using, but sometimes I just couldn't see what you were doing at all, as your arm or shoulder was in the way of the ring you were making....& sometimes I lost sight of your work, as it was up too high on the screen etc. Sorry to be negative, but if you look back on your video you'll see what I mean. What a great Christmas gift they will be for my Daughter's and my older Granddaughter's too!! I just LOVE your Tutorials Liz...please keep them up!! I found you when I was looking for a way to make a pillowcase to go with my next 2 quilts that I am making for my grandson's 7th birthday, and my granddaughter's 5th birthday. I have been quilting for over 17 years (and have taught other's "Beginner's Quilting" at a Craft Group I started at our local Church too) but I haven't done any sewing, quilting, knitting, embroidery or jewellery making for over 2 years because my health was so bad. I am just beginning to feel like I could start sewing again, YAY!! I live in South Austraia just FYI, and after seeing you use your Serger (which we call an Overlocker) I am considering trading in my Mum's old one, and buying a new one as it would be very handy I think. I agree with all the wonderful comments I've read, so I'll just say, "THANKS".
There IS One thing that's 'in need of improvement' though, sorry. Your Volume goes up & down through all Vids, which I've noticed cause I have tinnitus. I've found it's Not a good idea to wear ear-buds To raise volume, as the 'tapping on wire' gets Really Loud, lol. Confident you'll fix the problem, so I'm staying a Faithful Sub.

You can make jump rings out of the waste wire small ones, keep size of tiny jump rings then add future jump rings to each size you make from left over or waste wire, let me know how you get on, great video x

Making It Easy with Liz I was!! Haha but the silver one came out much nicer I think because I was much more careful with it. I made one for myself too and love it. Why buy jewelry when you can just make your own?! I used to just bead but discovered wire wrapping about 2 weeks ago and I am addicted!! CZcams makes it so easy and fun!
LOL I know what you mean about buying jewelry. My husband is off the hook there. I too love wire and metal. Beading is the same thing over and over but wire, there's a whole realm of creativity. Haha! Too funny! Some wire wrap things are very challenging yet rewarding and some things are so easy yet look like they took forever to do. I'm still a beginner at it and I'm 25 and want to learn so much, I grew up in a craft family and love challenging myself with new mediums. I love your spiral ring because it's so gorgeous! I made, no lie, 10. Also, the middle spiral is a great starter for so many patterns and you have the best advice IMO. I now always start at the smallest part of the mandrel then stretch it out, it keeps everything even. If you ever use metal clay make a video! I just heard about the stuff today and I'm saving up for a beginners kit to experiment, it sounds really exciting. I would also love to learn about soldering wire jewelry because sometimes spirals on rings can pop up if you use towels etc. :)

I love your enthusiasm for jewelry making. I was the same way...hungry to learn it all! I dabbled in silver clay, bought all the gadgets, kiln, etc. I did it for a bit but it is very costly and I don't think I will go down that path but I'm sure there are lots of great videos on the subject. I have a silversmith friend that might show some basic soldering that I can film. I'll check with him. If you're just starting out, check out my basic videos on the wire wrapped loop and basic loop, ear wires, etc.(if you haven't already). Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback and your support.

Liz…can you guide me towards the best equipment to buy; including the rawhide mallet (what size would be best). I make sea glass jewelry for fun and usually use 18-20 gauge nickel coated copper wire (I'm too careless to buy silver yet). LOVE your tutorial; thanks so much for spreading the artsy love :)

I bought some copper wire awhile back and I made a ring & it turned a dark color, and i was very disappointed. Is there any salutation to prevent copper wire from turning dark?
+Boysie Brown Hi Boysie. Thank you so much for your kind feedback. As for the copper not turning, I'm afraid the only way to stop that is to either seal it with a lacquer sealer, or get some Tarnex or other "dip" style cleaner for silver. You will find it where polish for silverware is sold in the grocery store. A quick dip in that will remove all of the tarnish. I would also store them in a Ziploc bag when not wearing it.

Aluminum wire is super soft, dents really easy and won't hold up. Rings take a beating and I truly believe you will get frustrated with aluminum. It's not even good to practice with.
