I have just reintroduced myself to poi... I'm 37 and not swung since I was 16... Really glad to find your videos bud... practicing my stops.... never been able to transition between tricks...thanks for pointing me in this direction :)
Some “reely reely” important stuff.
I did not even catch that. Well played ;)
hehe 😁
I saw someone spinning last weekend for the first time and ordered a set! Excited to see this series exists 😁
i'm so happy to have found you! thank you for the lessons. appreciate it.
I’m so happy I’ve found you, I’m new to poi and have been trying to master this for weeks. Your video showed me such a clear way to do it and I’ve done it immediately following your guidance. Thank you ♥️♥️
Really glad I found this, been spending lots of time in the garden with the kids and we've been trying to improve. Thanks for sharing your videos are really clear and easy to follow 😊👍
Thank you so much !
You broke it down that with just one tutorial I've noticed some of the basics, and my mistakes .
Got my POI to have something to do over quarantine! Thank you for all your awesome and immensely helpful videos! They just opened up the beaches again here in central California so I’m going to head there now to practice my turns!
Thank you for adding in the "head-cam" shots. The perspective change really helps!
This is what allowed it to click for me
Ahhh So as a Maori
Poi is natural to me as it's part of my culture...so when I learn this style I learn by watching and basically experimenting. I learn instinctively. However it also means that I've rushed ahead without the relevant basic theory. I'm so glad I've decided to follow you from the start because my planes are much tidier and the theory is really, really important.
Thank you so much! From the bottom of my heart! You are an amazing instructor! I can do it now! YES!
Thank you for making this video. Cant wait to watch more tutorial videos of you.
Thanks for your videos! You rock
Great stuff! Between this and the basic planes tutorials im really getting the hang of the basics just in my first week of practice!
Loving these tutorials, thank you!!
Yessssss thank you - had been struggling with everything you said
Thanks for helping me get started ❤
You're such a great teacher!
You're so much fun to watch and listen to.
Thank you soo much!!
I knew a few tricks but this helped transition between them sooo easy!!
I really appreciate this video, I actually get tricks when you explain!
Up here above the arctic circle we're used to limited groceries, especially during shoulder seasons when we wait for freeze up of the ice road, or thaw out of the river for boats. People up here seem to be a bit more chill so far 😁
You are a good teacher. Got my first spin Poi's & just learnt this move. Bit awkward at 1st but then came natural & couldn't stop doing it. Did bash my leg (luckily not my head...yet lol 😂) a few times. Windmill moves tomorrow & more added bruising haha 😂
Thank you! That was such a great lesson!
So many Good things came out of lockdown… thank you 💜
Spinning Poi for years. incorrectly I might add. I learned something great today. Thank you!
Thanks so much for making this video! Sending love from Germany!
Keep up the good work
Really nice videos thank you
This was really helpful!! Thanks
You make it look so easy. Thank you for this tutorial!
Thank you, your eyes and ankle technique helped a lot I landed my turns easily.
Love it drex thanks for the videos
over 30 years of nunchaku experience and thought this would be easy..nope! used to some of the movements though...anyhoo...thanks for such great and detailed instructions. You Rock
This was perfect thanks for much. Just easy enough for me to not get overwhelmed
My daughter is enjoying your lessons! thank you
Subscribed excited to learn I started learning years ago then I moved and never did it again but am excited to pick it up!!!!
Just ordered my first set and this channel is gonna be super helpful! Thanks already! I think, I am gonna also need a fan t-shirt that says "'n everything, yeah?", though. 😆
this helps so much!
I got poi today during covid lockdown :) thanks for your videos!
Hi Drex! Thanks for your video! In Poland we have closed all schools, shopping centers (only grocery stores and pharmacy are open), borders are closed as well. People make food supplies and (if they can) have home offices. We just wait in our houses until it pass. It's okey, but people are a bit panicked. Keep in good health.
Love it and start learning my first turn 😁
You're an amazing teacher! I'm waiting for my poi to ship in from FlowToys, but in the meantime, I'm trying to practice this with nunchucks! And ouch. Haha.
I didn’t know you were doing a whole series in lockdown! This is amazing!
Thanks I got it!
The last time I swung my pois was when I hit a wall at 14. Now I'm 18 and reliving my passion once again🌻
you're always asking questions about us, i'm normally a great commenter but my partner of 30 years died in December, i loved lockdown sorry i didn't find your videos then, but i was having an amazing time, i didn't actually find em, I've wanted a go at poi since i traveled with a circus ,, i always knew i'd love a go but never had time in the last few years i was taking care of my soul mate n we were so happy something had to give, so now learning to be me, without me other half..and am learning so much so fast..you explain so well..ty heart from Ireland
thanks!! i didn't know how to start!
I got it! I am loving poi so much.
Thanks for this Drex! love your teaching, clear and concise. I'm gonna try and find all the possible variations of this to really get the most out of the trick: stepping in the same direction (ie. walking across the screen from left to right), turning to my left and turning to my right, reel turning behind the body both at eyeball and at foot level, tick tacking across my front and across behind me, doing the forward and backward turns at the “wrong” time, 360 turns. Any other variations of the reel turn you can think of?
Beginner and Subscribed
In Paris, since yersterday only the alimentation shop and some others first necessity shop are open. Monday until tuesday at noon, people went a bit crazy and lined up in front of the food stores and basically emptied them out (thanks people)! but this afternoon (at least where I'm out, the streets emptied out and this afternoon I was able to go grocerie shoping, with no line and find all my product. So that's good, I hope people will stop freaking out about the groceries, there's no reason that we'll stop being delivered! Me I'm more concerned by a whole spring, not being able to socialise, go outside and enjoy some sun & fresh air (well kinda, I'm still in the city). All one can do is hope it wont last to long...
Anyway thanks for all your tutorials Drex, you're a great teacher!
Thanks Drex! Explained so well that I got it in one go! :D Looking forward to the rest of the videos 👍
Outstanding! That's what I like to hear :D
Post video to FB or Instagram and tag me and I'll feature you in a video this week!
After watching this video the door opened . thank you . best first trick
I've recently started spinning and I love it. It's fantastic exercise. Thanks for the lessons
Thanks for the video! Ive been playing for a year now and this is the first time i do this! Ready for more 👍
I’m so slow at learning movement but ur lessons are suuuper helpful 😭 thank u!

I'm gonna need an indoor Corona virus beginner series! I get my first set tomorrow! 😁😁😁😁
Hey I really like your videos I want to support your channel I am a Street performer and I need to learn more about the poi I need to learn what kind to buy and how to use them as well
Thank you so much for your video! I really need to start my poi practice again!
Yes please! Now's a great time to pick up something that gets you active and takes some focus to get down :)
Cool! Definitely inspired!
You are the best teacher ever and I have question is Z pixet transformer 72 poi is good??
Thanks.brother!
Got it!
I have decided I want to learn this in pursuit of fire dancing and this video was an amazing intro for my rubber poiballs! Thank you
Hello loving the videos your a great teacher. Would you have any recommendations where I could buy some nice beginner poi's? in New Zealand or that ships to NZ. I love the look of the ones you are using. I currently have a pair of practice Monkey Fist pois though would like to have a few different ones. Cheers
One thing that really helped me out as well with learning this move at first was that you can't keep your knees rigid. Really just bend then a bit and take steps with a slightly larger knee bend as you do the transition. This also helped me start getting the feel of dancing with the poi and performing with them for the first time, because you really start to get the feel of moving with the beat of your poi if you bend into the steps more with your knees. :)
That is a great note! Thank you for sharing--it's been so long since I first learned a lot of this stuff that some really obvious biomechanics like this sometimes slips my mind.
@@DrexFactor of course man! Sorry i was a little repetitive, but I wanted anyone who read it to clearly understand what I was trying to say lol. Hope you're staying safe and healthy my man, and hope light shines on you and your day!
Where can we buy the light poi in your video ?
Just decided to start... I cant seem to get my poi to stay parallel and they want to go wall-plane. Especially when making turns and going backwards. Any tips to fix this?
I just got my POI and I have the ones with the two loops and it's very difficult for me to do but a couple of tricks I still can't get this one down and it's supposed to be the beginner one would you suggest that I try different type of poi balls?
Can't get my left hand to keep the poi straight. It always turns and goes diagonal if that makes sense.. frustrating
Does this work with poi made from glow sticks and strings?
We had no problems shopping at Whole Foods and Trader Joes in Little Rock, Arkansas today.
i am trying to do this. i don't think my nipples will work properly ever again
edited to add thanks so much for posting these. you are appreciated
Past the ankles to where ?
I was looking for basics but sheesh bro over explained it a bit. Most of us started with this specific idea as a children just twirling whatever we found.
I guess the series gotta start somewhere
Thanks for the videos!! Made some monkey fist poi balls and got reel turns down this morning!
I'm in Williston ND, there is still food and water but is a little harder to get toilet paper.
I'm about to head out grocery shopping, so we'll see how this goes for me in Takoma Park, MD.
Yup, 8:00, you keepdoing it with the right hand
I remember when I first learned reel turns, it was awkward at first. I'm working on 5 beat weave backwards so now I'm hitting myself in the face again lol. Quarantined in North Texas.
Fun fact: my first poi lesson was only on this trick and I tried for 2 solid hours and just could not wrap my head around it. Eventually I figured it out on my own but I almost quit after that lesson. :-P
Good
I saw your 5 beginner tricks, and i never came to yt. It took me about least 2 weeks to figure all this out. Now i need another trick to link into the ‘butterflies’? Ive been off it all year because of so much. Now starting to get going. Just got a 30 day ban on fb, so ill join the group around late July 🤷🏽♂️
So you practice this before slinging actual fire ?
I'm in Australia, so it's pretty good here, but I'm low on loo paper and the same thing happened where the shelves are empty in my area, can get everything else though
What is it with people and toilet paper ? We have running water! what are they so afraid of?
i'm in france and since some minutes ago, we're in complete lockdown, forbidden to go outside exept for basic needs like grocery shopping and going to the doctor
soooo not terrible here
Yikes...San Francisco just implemented similar measures. Still too soon to tell if that's going to happen throughout the United States, too, but at the very least I've still got plenty of freedom of movement where I live.
I just made a cheap homemade set from tennis balls and paracord to get back into poi after 17 years. But I do have a question about the tennis balls. What does everyone think of using tennis balls? To me they do seem a little on the heavier side?
I am a beginner and just made some out of rope and tennis balls as well cause that’s all I had in the house and the monkey ball was too hard for me with nothing to put in the middle. I have been finding it fine and managed to get this trick down today!
Have you ever thought of doing a one trick tutuorial like very small videos? Sweeets kendama does a lot like this and I think it’d be useful to lean
I do one every Tuesday on my Instagram! instagram.com/drexfactor
@@DrexFactor thank you!
Should I expect to get a blister on my pointer finger from the rope or am I doing it wrong lol
Put a bandage on your finger
My 8 year old is interested in this.
just like butter
Learned, not yet mastered.
Ooo that looks easy
*bonk*
It was not easy
I feel dumb lol I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around how to do this.
I live in Sacramento California and everything is pillaged of TP, hand sanitizer, and similar goods, down to local gas stations
WOW. Yeah I'm planning on going grocery shopping later today so I'll soon find out if my area is the same way.
Anyone else hit their nuts the first couple tries? 🤣🤣🤣
❤
Toilet paper 🧻 is the most purchased item in my area, with hand sanitizer a very close second...I don’t understand the whole TP thing 🤔
Everyone is afraid of wiping their butt with a rag/sock or rock, stick, leaf, fingers, news paper, etc
Show of hands for everyone who smacked their head over and over! 🙋♀️
Why can't I do this? (T-T)
HELL YEAH! Just figured it out!
Thanks for the lesson.
BTW You say "...and everything" too many times
I thought poi was a Hawaiian vegetable.
I mostly just hit my nose...
to much talking
