Padre Pio was known to be contacted by souls in purgatory, asking for his aid. His response was to offer Mass for them, not counsel them to ask for a front loader. I fear that this priest is either deceiving himself or being deceived. It can be ego enhancing to believe that one's own activity has resulted in a soul entering heaven, rather than releasing them to God's care. I will pray for Fr. Castle and eagerly await the next installment.

Dear@@theodoremartin6153, I think you are right to speak up and defend one of our dear holy priests. But your comment comes across as heated with anger. Your first sentence was beautifully clear. The second one was not just superfluous, it sounded hurtful. I understand the comparison. And some people do not see they are being judgmental until someone is judgmental of them, but still... you have a talent for clarity. God has given you this gift of words to serve Him, Who IS Charity. Right?

@@theodoremartin6153 It doesn't sound like anything I have read regarding souls in Purgatory appearing to the saints such as St. Faustina. If the Church forbids Necromancing, it means that Necromancing is real. Thus God has a reason to forbid Necromancing. If we want to help the Poor Souls in Purgatory, we can pray and offer sacrifices for them. But how is this different than what mediums do such as television personality, author and a self-proclaimed psychic medium John Edwards does? Furthermore, since demons are particularly tricky and vastly smarter than human beings, the first thing to do is to be skeptical and to discern spirits. If the Church forbids Necromancing then why dabble with it? This case sounds like a deception, especially when one is concerned about publishing deadlines? Furthermore, people who dabble with the occult self-induce lucid dreaming and such things as astral travel.

@@joni77933The Bible doesn’t contain the word “Purgatory” nor does it teach that the souls of those who have died are purified in purgatory. People who have died are unconscious! (Ecclesiastes 9:5,10) A person who has died cannot feel anything and therefore cannot be cleansed by any fire of purgatory.
The New Catholic Encyclopedia admits: “In the final analysis, the Catholic doctrine on purgatory is based on tradition, NOT sacred Scripture.”

Now I am wondering is he is stuck. He was mentally I’ll, retired navy commander with paranoia and delusions. He was extremely stubborn to boot. I understand what ya mean.
Over the years, I sometimes have very vivid dreams of my grandmothers. After some time, my dream self knows that they aren’t really with me and I end up crying myself awake.
The last time was after I the Titanic when it was released in theaters for the 25th anniversary. I don’t know if she ever saw it or not, but I had a vivid scene of us getting ready to go see it and her talking excitedly about the whole thing. Suddenly my dream self started crying and I woke up with her laugh still in my thoughts.
My normal response from seeing any person in my dreams is praying foe them, either an Our Father, Hail Mary, or a few Divine Mercies. I’m not sure if she really needed them, but I felt much more peaceful afterwards and didn’t worry about going back to sleep.
Know that no prayer is ever wasted!

I find this at once delightful and yet ambiguous. Most mystics speak of the purgatory as extreme pain exacted by God's justice and love. This is more exposure therapy than atonement. The souls don't seem to speak or gesture to God which is odd. Or express regret for sin

Dear @josephclark1431, it is the "odd"-ness that caught my attention too. But it makes sense when I think of these stories in terms of Father's "religious imagination". No doubt Dante's Purgatorial steps or levels is behind his understanding. And he is dealing with souls who have known the disorientation of extreme trauma. They need to come out of their shells. And then, learning how to ask for help is an essential step in our spiritual life.
Have you read of the Desert Father who struggled with understanding a text in the Scriptures? He finally gave up trying to do it himself, and set out to ask another monk. And immediately the answer came to him. And the Lord told him that he couldn't understand the Bible until he had the humility to ask for help.
Father himself is so full of joy and love! It feels good to listen to him!

We believe in mitigating circumstances and invincible ignorance. I mean, ask yoirself, do we WANT more people to go to hell? No. So if formally non-catholics get into heaven, that's a really joyful thing.

Dear@@DR-nw3jn, I think you are being facetious. How can we love God if we *choose* to give Him less than our best? Are we not then like Cain? Next thing you know, we will be killing our brothers and sisters by not closing the doors to Heaven!
If we, who have been blessed with the faith to know the Church is the Bride of Christ, do not want to share God's beautiful gift to us with others, how can we hope to be happy in Heaven?

    • @jimgiordano8039
      @jimgiordano8039 Před 9 měsíci

@@DR-nw3jn the point is that we KNOW what God himself wants, and also can take advantage of all the extra help that he provides for us to purify ourselves (the Sacraments) - imagine if we didn't have those helps!!! Every religion believes in some kind of good-evil, right-wrong dynamic but what do they do to get past all our human failings?
The best analogy would be the Alcoholics Anonymous 12 step program, which borrows heavily from Christianity. It is probably the best way to shake alcoholism (a metaphor for sin in general) but there are a few lucky or blessed people who manage to effectively give up the bottle without AA - but it's very rare.
We know Enoch, Elijah and even 'the good thief' managed to make it to heaven without the sacraments, but just 3 over thousands of years. So that's the precious value of Catholicism - even just an average poor repentant sinner can make it into heaven, that seems only reserved for rare enlightened masters of other faiths.
There's even cases, like Ratisbone, of a person who actively rejected God and/or the Church, and yet found redemption through the actions of the Church - a scapular worn on a dare from a Catholic friend eventually led to the conversion of Ratisbone, who had actively rejected the faith. If Ratisbone had only his Jewish community or had lived in a pagan world, he would not have had a chance at all.

My husband and I have all three of Fr. Nathan‘s books. I was blinded by affection for Fr. Nathan when I enthusiastically read the first two books. I was ambivalent about the third book, but my husband insisted that I watch Jimmy’s videos about it to alleviate my concerns. Now, having watched episodes #269 and #270, I’m definitely Against what Fr.Nathan is doing. I went back to book number one to see what I missed years ago. There are several dealbreakers, but one concise one sums it all up.
In book number one, on p.24, Fr. Nathan gives a bullet point list of things to expect in the afterlife. One of them is as follows: “You will be greeted and welcomed by loving helpers. God/heaven/the universe will provide the ideal loving guide even if you weren’t religious or a believer in an afterlife.“
The universe is God’s creation, is not sentient, and is incapable of providing Anything for us. This is pantheism, New Age paganism wrapped up in Christian terminology. It violates the first commandment.

  • @cerickNY
    @cerickNY Před 10 měsíci +17

The part I find the most suspect about this is the idea that Fr. Nathan has had no experience of a soul asking for an escort and had that person be unavailable, since a soul in hell would presumably not be available and/or willing to do so. However, since we're talking about a topic we really don't have a lot of information on, there are a number of reasons this could be the case including but not limited to 1) God's sanctifying grace is rejected by so few souls that you're significantly less likely to name a denizen of hell by randomly picking a deceased person then you are a person in heaven, 2) the purified souls leaving purgatory have some kind of preternatural sense of who else is saved, or, 3) the kind of person a purified soul is likely to want to see again is going to be someone with whom they shared a relationship that embodied some or all of the virtues and is therefore someone else likely to be sanctified. It has also occurred to me right now that someone who is currently in purgatory would also be presumably unavailable as well, in which case, a slight modification on #2 would still work, as well as the possibility that different individual experiences of purgatory need not be temporally synchronous, since perhaps God invites souls in heaven to step in from whatever "now" moment they are in heaven to do the escorting.

When he mentions Muslims in Purgatory, I become skeptical.
CCC - 1257 The Lord himself affirms that Baptism is necessary for salvation. He also commands his disciples to proclaim the Gospel to all nations and to baptize them. Baptism is necessary for salvation for those to whom the Gospel has been proclaimed and who have had the possibility of asking for this sacrament. The Church does not know of any means other than Baptism that assures entry into eternal beatitude; this is why she takes care not to neglect the mission she has received from the Lord to see that all who can be baptized are "reborn of water and the Spirit." God has bound salvation to the sacrament of Baptism, but he himself is not bound by his sacraments.
So why God could allow this, seems like an exceedingly rare thing (if ever).
    So still skeptical.....

There are a lot of things that put my guard up about this.
One, the method of communication sounds too much like mediumship, which scripture tells us to avoid.
Two, this would appear to spread the lie of religious indifferentism, since it doesn’t appear that coming to a knowledge of Christ is central to any of these souls moving forward. It makes perfect sense that demons would spread this to water down the true faith.
Three, since everyone’s relatives, Christian or non-Christian, seem to be available, it seems like this would lend credence to universalism, which is a lie.
I’m surprised Father is so comfortable participating in this and I’m surprised his superior has allowed this to go on and to have books published on the topic.
Interesting, but I don’t think people would benefit from putting any stock in this as it could lead them away from the teaching of scripture and the church.

Yes, I had all those problems with it as well and more. What he saying is contradictory to everything we know about the nature of purgatory, from both official teaching and the catechism but also from mystic saints have told us.
And this priest is just straight-up possessed by a demon. An hour and 47 minutes into the interview he describes how he first met a spirit in the desert after college, and it rose up from the earth and wanted it inside of him and ask for permission to enter him, and he said yes.
It was straight-up demonic possession, and he's been possessed his entire adult life. In fact, it's very clear that homosexuality is the mortal sin that allowed the demon to possess him in the first place.

This was so, so fascinating. A couple of years ago Netflix revived the Unsolved Mysteries show and they had an episode called "The ghosts of Fukushima" about a Buddhist priest who did exactly this work after the 2011 tsunami. I've been so curious ever since watching that show, how seriously I should take this idea. I'm still a little confused about how the purgatory process happens for non- Christians. Why wouldn't God send all of them to Christians for help, not a Buddhist priest? Wouldn't part of their purgatory involve coming to know Jesus as their true savior? I'd have liked to hear whether Fr. Nathan has ever talked to those souls about that topic. But it sounds like he doesn't consider this to be part of his calling 🤷‍♀️

    • @MegaLori50
      @MegaLori50 Před 10 měsíci +6

I too was very affected by The Ghosts of Fukushima episode on Netflix. My take away is that the vast majority of souls who passed so suddenly had not given a thought to life beyond death let alone the Christian message. When they found themselves suddenly in a different realm their souls were completely and totally ill-equipped to cope. What a lesson for all of us still abiding on Earth? I'm wondering how many Christians like Father Nathan there are on the earth at any one time? In order to do the type of work Father Nathan does a human person would have to be "wired" with a balance of characteristics that seem unique/rare. In my experience of over 60 years, in my corner of the world at least, I have found most of my fellow Catholic church attendees to be wonderfully good people, loving, prayerful but totally rooted in this world. They don't venture to the larger questions somehow. They serve in soup kitchens for example, help their neighbors in concrete ways, organize bingo and the like to raise funds for their local church, etc. They feel rightfully that God is in charge of the "big things" and they seem to think of themselves as servants (that's good too as we all are under God our Father) who would never penetrate too deeply into the essence of the Catholic message which is an opening into the greater realms of God. In John's Gospel Jesus tells the people : “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father." There is so much to unpack there, no? Think about how many people are freaked out by any encounter with the paranormal, a whole lucrative "entertainment" industry is built upon this fear/unhealthy attraction. Father Lane is rock solid in his Catholic faith and somehow matter of fact about his frequent encounters with the beyond. I loved when he said near the start of this episode that God was doing something new with him and he simply listens and obeys (that's the general sentiment he expressed, I don't remember his exact words). I also was struck by how "worldly" in a good sense Father Lane is, he is involved in today's world, for example recognizing cultural lingo - "Jake from State Farm" - maybe this has to be a characteristic of someone who God chooses to do this type of work with the soul's who pass from today's largely secular world? To connect back to the Netflix episode, maybe there wasn't a Christian in the area that was equipped to do the type of work that Father Lane does? I remember a private individual in that episode that had some encounters with the souls that passed and I recall her being prayerful and helpful towards them. Forgive my long response, thinking all of this through as I type.

Imagine a tiny baby in a Muslim country. There are Protestant religions that teach that this baby is destined for hell by default, unless as an adult he or she accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as the Redeemer. Baptism is optional, but if you don't proclaim Jesus as your Savior, you're going to hell. Yet most Muslim countries make it illegal to practice any Christian religion, and will put you to death if you proclaim Jesus as Lord and Savior. So the baby doesn't get to hear the Gospel, and grows up to be a faithful Muslim who seeks to do the will of God as he or she understands God to be. There could very well be an element of obedience to the parents, as father and mother faithfully teach what they understand are the truths of their religion. In the case described in this podcast, the faithful Muslim sought to protect innocent women and children from attack. Do you think he must be damned for not being Christian? Does that make sense? The Catholic Church teaches that one who follows his conscience to the best of his ability, and who obeys the Natural Law, is not condemned, even if he be a pagan.

The Bible does not even contain the word “purgatory,” nor does it teach that the souls of those who have died are purified in purgatory.
      1) Faith in the blood of Jesus, not time in a so-called purgatory purifies a person from sin. (1 John 1:7; Revelation 1:5)
      2) People who have died are unconscious! (Ecclesiastes 9:5,10) A person who has died cannot feel anything and therefore cannot be cleansed by any fire of purgatory.
      3) There is no punishment for sins after a person dies. Death is the full and complete punishment for sin. (Romans 6:7,23)
      The New Catholic Encyclopedia
admits: “In the final analysis, the Catholic doctrine on purgatory is based on tradition, NOT Sacred Scripture.”
“The church has relied on tradition to support a middle ground between heaven and hell.” (U.S. Catholic)

Fr. Castle side steps the reality of hell saying something to the effect,”souls go to heaven, purgatory or somewhere.” Teaching the unfortunate reality of hell saves souls I believe. St. Faustina said most of the people in hell believed there was no hell when they were on earth. She also described the reality of hell in paragraph 741. She finished by saying “I am writing this at the command of God, so that no soul may find an excuse by saying there is no hell.” Hopefully, very few end up there.

Dear @samoller, at about the 47:14 mark, father speaks of his "religious imagination". Since human language cannot express the life beyond this mortal life, I do believe you are onto something -- all Father's language is parabolic, analogous, allegorical, "spiritual", and the images Father evokes should not be taken as more than symbolic. Bless you!

It also sounds a little like “The Great Divorce” which is a novel by the British author C. S. Lewis, published in 1945, based on a theological dream vision of his in which he reflects on the Christian conceptions of Heaven, (purgatory) and Hell. The working title was Who Goes Home? but the final name was changed at the publisher's insistence.

Even though the rational side of me was instinctually popping up here and there as skeptical/questioning, this has to be one of the most emotionally moving episodes you've ever done. Though I assume you wouldn't put someone you thought a fraud on your podcast, I thought he came across as very credible, genuine, humble, and faithful. I didn't pick up on anything necessarily against Church teaching. If a guardian angel truly allows or tells you to call him "Jake" as a pseudonym, I guess there's nothing wrong with that.

If so, that would seem to contradict the claim Elijah never died. Though the Church did not declare one way or the other, one Catholic tradition holds that Mary did not technically die.

I deleted a comment I had made last week. I originally asked, "If Father's testimony is true, then what's the point of living a life of self-sacrifice, penance, duty and virtue...i.e. living a Catholic life...if we all just end up being saved in the end? I got a lot of feedback and thank you to everyone who provided sincere responses. Through prayer I was led to Matthew 20, the parable about the laborers in the Vineyard. Anyway, after a slight Spiritual dope slap, I was reminded that being a Catholic Christian is a privilege, receiving the Eucharist and participating in the Mass and Sacraments are privileges of the highest degree. I should not be envious of those in the "eleventh hour", and I should be filled with joy and gratitude for the ability to serve our Lord in His Church rather than be hoping for the best outside of it. So if Father's testimony is true, well the thanks be to God for His Love and Mercy. Thanks again for the sincere feedback, and I apologize for the person who was making negative comments to our Christian brothers and sisters of other denominations. God bless you all, and keep you. ❤

Excuse me, but Jesus is not a liar. He meant it when he said that "unless you eat my flesh and drinks my blood you will have no life in you."
The sacraments of the Catholic Church are not optional, and there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. That is a 2000-year old dogma that can never be changed, despite what Vatican II tried to do.
The fact of the matter is that this priest is a religious indifferentist heretic. And a great many people in the comments hear have identified numerous disturbing red flags with this guy. In fact, it becomes clear towards the end of the interview that he's actually possessed by a demon himself.
