  • After 8 years of school and 1 year of residency, I finally accomplished my goal of becoming a clinical inpatient pharmacist! I'll be recording my pharmacy journey - navigating life as a first time pharmacist fresh out of my pharmacy residency. I'll also show you a glimpse of what my life is like outside of work as well!
    I am currently a float pharmacist, meaning I "float" around and work different areas of the hospital depending on where they need me. This video is a brief overview of what my day is like when I am covering the Discharge Counseling Mid shift. The hours are 10:00 am until 6:30 pm!

    Hi Dr. Sarah! Thank you so so much for your videos and for taking us on this journey with you. I gound your channel as I began my PGY1 process ladt year. I am now a resident and applying for PGY2s. 😭 My dream is yo be either an ICU pharmavist or ER pharnacist. Can you share about uour decision not to do a PGY2 and how you were still able to become an ICU pharmacist without one?

      Hi! Thank you so much for watching my videos :) Congratulations on your PGY1! PGY2 is a great path if you want to dedicate your career to one field - like how you are interested in ICU or ER. PGY2 is usually a dedicated year for one specific field. I decided not to do a PGY2 because I wanted to start working right away and I was still open to working in various inpatient areas. I am currently a floater so I cover various areas such as medicine, surgery, ICU, ER, psych, oncology etc. I enjoy the variety for the time being and will probably narrow my field eventually :) I just like learning as much as I can at this point in my career. However, if you are really on a specific field of pharmacy then I say go ahead and go PGY2! You will definitely get more experience in that field and be able to network even more. If you're lucky, the PGY2 facility will hire you on if theres an opening!

    Hi Dr. Can u tell mE clinical Vs general hospital pharmacy !

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  Před 7 měsíci

      general hospital pharmacy would typically be more of the IV room shift in which you double check the IV bags that the technicians compound and you assist in verifying general medication orders that the doctors put in. As a clinical pharmacist, you do more clinical tasks like dosing and adjusting pharmacy lead medications like vancomycin, heparin, warfarin, etc.
