    @clinchfieldns Před 4 lety +13

    This is hands down my favorite Tyler song. I love all his music but this song describes my childhood and teenage years perfectly. I grew up in the coalfields of Southwest Virginia across the state line from Pike County. Coal is king in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and West Virginia, and with the current state of coal, the hard working men and woman have had to go to the extremes to make money. Some legal, some not. This song reminds me of the daily conversations between my dad and myself growing up. It will be 3 years in June since he left this ol’ world and he pushed me daily to get my education, become a good man, stay away from the growing amount of pills and drugs, and to get out of the hills. He wanted me to have a better life than him and he knew it wasn’t in the mountains where the only livelihood is dying. I feel like maybe you are focusing on the pills a little too much in the song, however. To me, it’s about a father’s constant reminder to his young son about the life lessons of being a good man, working hard, and to not venture down the wrong path in an area where it’s so easy to do. Then it fast forwards to where the son has reached the crossroads of staying straight or taking drugs and he’s struggling. So he thinks back to his childhood and his father’s advice. He gets the chills because he realizes every word his father said was true.

Seeing you goof off and play along and the pure emotion in your reaction on Tyler's very first syllable and the so sincere smile growing on your face is good fun to watch and share.
    I think I consider this a perfect song! It really gives you an idea about Tyler's artistry when the guitar teacher says "Who cares about the chords!?" It's even more impressive having seen some of your other videos, which has just as much sincere emotion on your part but where you actually bother explaining the chords. You're so right in that it's the emotion and delivery that's on display here, the lyrics and the story, and the instrument is really just a vessel for delivery, rightfully taking a back seat!

    The first time I heard this song It stopped me in my tracks, and I couldn't hold back the tears that followed... cause I fling lived it, and I survived to text here about it... many didn't... buried several of my kin in Kentucky who weren't so lucky... you can hear the pain in Eastern Kentucky in his voice... Love ya, Tyler.

    I'm from a small town in the oldest county in West Virginia called Hampshire County. The pills herion and meth is everywhere ruining so many peoples live. I was using pills after I was prescribed something mild for my back being out of line causing really bad pain. Well the pills I was getting weren't helping anymore so I had to get stronger ones off the street. After my back was better it was to late I was hooked and was introduced to perk 30s and was doing multiple a day then started to smoke them after I learned you could do that. I would spend a whole pay check in a day or 2 and would have to start hussling day to day to get my fix. I lost my girlfriend I loved more than the world lost my car lost my family's respect and trust. One day I told myself if I keep this up I'll never have anything and will stsy in my current state unless I do something about it. I called for help and got the help I needed. The hardest part was the first step forward and telling myself I have a problem. I have been clean for 3 years now and counting. When I first heard this song it was just unreal. Not only can I relate to this song but also everyone else that has or still is struggling. I love to olay along to this song anytime I'm feeling down and it helps me to keep grip on what I have accomplished. Love this song and am very happy that you did a video on this beautiful piece of art!!!

    You are the only who did a reaction to this song who made the connection that his dad was addicted to the pills. Nice work. That’s why your reactions are the best.

    Just popped up on my feed again- and I have to thank you for introducing me to one of my favorites of the past 2 years. Tyler has already sold out his Red Rocks shows for 2023! I love his voice SO MUCH. Thanks again, that is why I keep watching... and I definitely listen to music in a whole new way since viewing your channel.

    If you haven’t done it, check out John Moreland. Particularly his song: “You don’t Care for me enough to cry”
    It’s similar to this style. His song writing is phenomenal.
