A different bow drill.

  • This is a different bow drill. I would say it’s a perfect tool to teach the process of primitive friction fire. The traditional bow drill relies on a bow and single cord where this one has two cords allowing for faster more efficient rotations and less down worth pressure. What started out as a review of a product quickly got my attention and surprised me. This bow drill is one of the best tools for teaching beginners, scouts, kids and enthusiasts of primitive fire.
    This should not be used to replace the traditional bow drill or a quick fix for bushcraft teachers, the importance of learning about the resources, materials and the process of gathering and processing the materials to make a tool that will aid you in starting a fire is far more important. in my opinion this bow drill is far mor efficient than the traditional one and if I have to take something away from this experience is the use of two cords in the way this bow drill uses.

    Liked your idea about adapting the bow drill for your own usage. Enjoyable video as always. Keep the faith.

    My god I blinked and you had got an ember. Even putting a spindle in your makita isn't cheating its learning. Great product expecially like you said for kids.
    Great review Alex, hope you are keeping well and having a great weekend.

    Looks great thank you for your unbiased views. I am with you when you say a lot of bushcraft is about getting the skills rather than buying everything. But as a learning tool this looks good

      Bernard Bracken thanks for the comment, yes I’m mostly for learning the skills but sometimes things like this come out and even this taught me something new. The way the cord works is awesome

    That's like an Egyptian bearing block, they used it as a drill, to put holes into stone.
    Although it may have been used in wood to start fires too.

    • @BeeOutdoors
      @BeeOutdoors  Před 4 lety

      Yes I’m struggling to find it’s origin but have seen it in some old Chinese books illustrated as being used to drill. Thanks I’ll look up the Egyptian bearing block 💪

      It will be interesting to find it’s origin but I got a hint that you may not be far off. Egyptians were innovating and ahead of many cultures
