Bruh, how in the hell. I just decided to buy the leviathan box after 15 years of not having 40k. I had the 3rd edition codex as my introduction to 40k. I was going to paint my Tyranids in this theme. All I could find was a few paintings that someone posted on reddit as a guide. This is everything I needed. Thank you so so much.
Great minds
Love this video and think I'm gonna do a mixture. There's a rly good tutorial on a webpage. But his looks rather gritty. Think the mixture of his and this approach is gonna be the best:))
Also Smae
The 3e tyranid codex was my intro to 40k too! Hell yeah! That book is awesome
@@imquantum8009hive minds lol
You sir have done the most incredible job of recreating the original artwork. An army of these monsters would put the fear of god into anyone. Superb paint job and guide.
Fear of God doesn't actually refer to actual horror, but respect and awe for the almighty. People have been using that term wrong for so long. Contrary to assumption, yeah I'm fun at parties as well.
@@OmkaraHellcore I mean, that doesn't necessarily contradict the original statement. Seeing this Army on the Battlefield would no doubt inspire Respect and Awe for its player/painter.
Your painting skills are just off the charts. Thank you for sharing your skills here for us to learn.
Adrian Smith and Karl Kopiński are my absolutely favorite GW artists. An era long gone...
This is the first video i´ve ever seen from you. I dont think theres anyone who does better painting videos than you. you´re calm and you´re explaining really good. The quality is fucking amazing. Please do more videos.
same here! Great first experience
He has a Patreon with lots of content. Probably one of the reasons he doesn't post more on YT.
Same here. I am still stunned how good this video was and how amazing the painting is. For the first time in my life I thought "I want to pay this guy to paint my army EXACTLY LIKE THIS."
Where is everyone??? People are always doing eavy metal style painting videos and this dude is straight up an ex eavy metal painter and he's only at 23k subs...
Absolutely spectacular work, 2nd Ed is before my time but this blew me away.
Fantastic work, I just subbed can't wait to watch some more.
I've been considering a coconut crab scheme but this is really nice. Thanks
this is such an amzing paintjob.
I've always loved the 3rd Edition Tyranids Cover art.
Wow thats an amazing paintjob. We can always learn from the old masters when it comes to choosing color schemes.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this so much. This is the scheme that drew me i to the hobby. The artwork that grabbed my 12 year olds attention. Thank you so much!
I absolutely love this and wouldn’t mind an entire series where you paint the other nid units this color scheme. Would love to see an entire army looking like this
I don't often sub to patreons for painting as there are generally tonnes of guides out there for miniature painting for free. But I 've binged your videos over the last few days and my god man. You've earned yourself a new patreon sub. Also, the 'Eavy Archive is an absolute phenomenal resource that has been swiftly bookmarked!
Thank you!
You,Sergio Calvo, Jose DaVinci, Richard Grey and a handful of others are the best painters on CZcams by a mile. Fantastic stuff
Wow! Absolutely incredible! I can't believe I haven't found you until now.
wow ! amazing painting . Brush control is beyond my comprehension
Without doubt the coolest looking Tyranid I've ever seen. I could stare at it for hours
Being able to watch an Eavy Metal painter work in 4k in such a well-edited video is just incredible.... what a wonderful time to be painting. Your glazing and edge-highlighting are, of course, as good as it gets. It would be nice to see you use an airbrush more from time to time though; I think it speeds things up, and that the Eavy Metal team avoid the because GW don't sell airbrushes. An airbrush would take some of the transitions you achieved here and make them possible on an army-wide scale.
Spectacular stuff, so much nostalgia from that art, I was in love with it as a kid. To see it realised as an actual model is incredible.
I remember that Codex and art well - you really did it justice!
It was the artwork for the 3rd edition Tyranid codex that first turned me onto 40k way back in 2002 when I stumbled upon it while checking out the Third Planet comic/hobby shop as a kid.
your slow pace of video and detailed information for each step have taught me more in 20 minute video about painting techniques than any other video so far, thank yoo
Realy nice and well executed.
I'm going close of this scheme with my tyranids (purple instead of red, and apple green instead of the yellow, with the plasma effect).
that codex is what REALLY got me into 40k
that's the most beautiful tyranid paint job i've ever seen. well done.
2nd Ed to 3rd Ed Tyranids was like a hair metal band deciding to transistion into death metal.
Haha I love this comparison! It's so accurate.
This is stuff of legend for Tyranids players. 3rd edition is amazing, i still have the codex and painted my Black Templar according to its artwork and your tutorials !
Never played Tyranids, but I now feel compelled to find a warrior and paint it ! Your work is stunning.
The prettiest bug out there 🤩
Thank you ! It's the scheme i wanted to do for the leviathan release box,now i just have to follow the steps 😊
Absolutely beautiful
Bro... wtf bro... I have a Tyranid bias but thats one of the sickest paint jobs Ive seen yet! Honestly wish I could paint like this. Superb mate!
i really appreciate you showing your wet pallete and paint consistency as you do this, one of my big problems with painting is i dont really know whats the good consistency i wanna achieve but the visuals really help, you're goin real thin there and i can understand how i should approach my hopeful future projects
Yeah there's a big issue with tutorials not showing things like paint consistency, choosing to use words to describe the correct consistency instead. It's really frustrating when you're just starting out and don't really know what you're doing, the issue with that as well is different paints have different consistencies so would need varying levels of watering down and new people to the hobby won't really know how to work with those paints
The glaze was a nice touch on the black.
You sir, are an absolute wizard. I'm in awe of your painting talent. Unbelievable ❤
That looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing that
i have never had interest in tyranids and this scheme is SOO good i want to do this now haha
Excuse my language, but HOLYSH*T! This is one of the greatest schema and skill on painting Tyranid. It is purely awesome!
That paint scheme is incredible and ur a crazy good painter.
Just wow. Really amazing paint job.
Absolutely fantastic interpretation of some of the most iconic artwork in 40k. I remember seeing this on the codex at my local game store when i was about 14 and wanting to paint tyranids but feeling like they were too difficult to me back then. Seeing you paint this really brought some heavy nostalgia and i'll be using some of these techniques to reproduce the Hivefleet Typhon scheme next week. Thanks!
that codex was why i bought my first nids. Seeing those models as they are on the cover art is rad as hell
Not going to lie. This is F***ing stunning.
Great stuff! Colour scheme for my ‘nids from the Leviathan set sorted. Just have to come up with a cool hive fleet name for them. Thanks for the tutorial, and also for the ‘Eavier Archive.
looks amazing!
Excellent tip with the cork holders! great vid
It looks great thank you for the guidance and inspiration 👍
I am still stunned how good this video was and how amazing your painting is. For the first time in my life I thought "I want to pay this guy to paint my army EXACTLY LIKE THIS!" Thank you very, very much for sharing! I wish I could say that now I'm going to go and try doing this myself, but I would have to clone myself first to dedicate an entire lifetime to try to do it.
I would love to have a full hive fleet in This colorscheme 😍
This is far and away the best looking Tyranid model and colour scheme, full stop. Might try this should get another Tyranid model in the future!
BROO I was JUSt thinking about how amazing it would be to see this scheme and here you are! WE ARE LINKED BY THE HIVE MY FRIEND
Awww I remember that cover sooo well!
Instant sub !
3rd edition Tyranid codex is legendary, and what you've done is awesome.
Absolutely stunning 👏
I always loved that art so much, and all of the painted minis in the codex I had at the time looked nothing like it.
You have bright reds blues and whites, oranges, but nothing like this.
This is utterly beautiful :O
I have that codex!!!! Can’t tell you how many times I read that cover to cover as a kid who couldn’t afford to buy any models (or paint well anyways lol). Nice painting!
I attempted to recreate this colour scheme for my own Tyranids, buying most of the paints and I have found that even though I do not have the skill or hand stability to create a lot of the smaller details, I was still able to create a really cool looking model.
I loved that art piece ever since I bought the 5th edition rulebook back in 2009. I've got some nids earlier this year and I've been eager to paint them up like the art, but I held off on it until I get the new starter box.
This video is the perfect inspiration for it!
i will get my leviathan box tomorrow and i thought, that i had settled on a tyranid colour scheme...thank you for making me think again
beautiful scheme, a swarm looking like that with the new models would look amazing.
Your best video yet; your commentary skills have really improved and everything is clearly explained. Thanks for putting this together!
2 minutes in and I could tell this was a channel I wanted to subscribe to. Clean, concise information. No ego, just talent. And details for a free archive of painting recipes. Thank you for making quality content 👌
Oh and, fantastic job on the model by the way 🙂
That's just superb 😊
Great video Dave! The result is stunning, and I love watching your meticulous approach and super precise work. Thanks for sharing!
Love this - likewise, this piece was my first introduction to the Tyranids and it's etched into my brain. Haven't bought a mini since 6th edition, but among a few other things I've been thinking of getting back in with a Tyranid force based on this scheme, maybe not 1:1 but inspired by. Awesome to see someone else realise it so well. Cheers
Absolute perfection! You've really captured the tone of tge artwork 😍
I had 0 Interest in painting the tyranid from leviathan until I saw your videos and paint scheme. Great job ! Thanks
Oooh such an awesome result.
I used Wild Rider red when starting the paint test a while back - but the way you used the Orange brought the vibrancy out so well, I think I'll have to modify my pallet choice! Great job on the warrior, looks exactly how I feel the codex art should look in miniature form
Omg that is awesome finally a scheme that isn't Leviathan lol great job! 😮
Damn, thats incredible! We need more vids!! ❤
This color scheme and your skills are off the charts. My leviathan nids might end up looking like this or hive fleet kraken.
I have been testing numerous schemes in preparation for the upcoming leviathan box, but none I could really get into. After watching this you have inspired me to give this theme a go, absolutely love it! If not exactly to match, you have certainly given me a few ideas to try out. Thanks for the video, it's a gem! ❤
Outstanding work! Very inspirational.
I have the leviathan box. A lot of time and patience.
I think you just made me make a decision.
I love what you’ve achieved here, it looks absolutely mega. Nice work
That finished model is absolutely GORGEOUS!
That is the best paint job on a Tyranid I’ve ever bloody seen
So much memory 😍
You did an amazing job !!
I would love to see a full army painted that way !
Well. I know I'm going to be doing with the 'nids in my Leviathan boxed set. I always loved that 3rd Ed art. Really loved that idea of using different filter glazes over the neutral grey highlights, very clever and efficient!
I was in middle school and had no idea about Warhammer. But I got the 3rd edition Tyranid codex and a box of units to paint. Just picking up Warhammer after all these years
Wonderful, I want more of tyranids with different arts patterns to inspire me.
Dude this is dope AF. Makes me want to build a nid army with this paint scheme. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Dang man... I was probably 6 years old when I saw this book. My family and I had no idea what Warhammer was at the time. We went to a restaurant and I was a classic 6 year old boy playing with my Star Wars Legos. The man at the register was probably 22 at the time, and he was very friendly. He reached across the counter and gave me a copy of this book!!!
Yes kind of creepy but it changed my life forever seeing this these models. I took it home and was just awed at the beautiful art. I saw plastic minis that were cooler than my Legos. Massive battlefields of these aliens vs a squad of quite 'ugly' looking blue human soldiers 😅.
Through the years I lost the book unfortunately between house-moves but almost every day I remembered that book and wanted it so badly. What was this strange world?
Almost ten years later I went to the public library and found a strange book. It was a black warrior riding on a massive bike with guns and it was called "Ravenwing" and I instantly fell in love with the book. I got to the end of the book and found more plastic minis being sold by a company called Games Workshop...
This hit very near and dear to my heart as it started my Warhammer journey. While I dont collect Tyranids yet, I would love to and this would be my color scheme. Thanks for representing such an epic piece of history...
Wow; your painting is so gorgeous. I don’t think I’ve ever seen these guys look as good as this in miniature
Wow, spectacular. I'm so happy I found your channel!
Thankyou for creating the website to help us paint like the box
thank you for brining my childhood to life. I have that codex on my desk beside me right now :)
Thank you for eavy archive I've been using it loads it's really useful
Incredible... just brilliant, every video you make is sensational, this scheme is really making me want to paint my Tyranids the same! Thankyou again.
I think I just found the colour scheme for my space hulk genestealers. And the nice thing is it's based on Adrian Smith's earlier artwork who did the box art for Space Hulk and was kind enough to sign my box.
Thank you for this video, it's awesome.
The website is wonderful ! Please keep adding to it !
Fantastic as always
going to be using your affilate link for rosmary&co going forward!
Awesome, thank you!
Outstanding work, it was a pleasure to see you painting it. Subbed at once!
it's been a long time since I felt so intruigued while watching a video, super striking result. Wow
Please make a book out of the 'Eavy Metal Archive. It´s incredible and all I ever wanted when I started painting Warhammer Miniatures.
REALLY nice! The bit of red on the top of the head crest really sells the entire paint scheme.
100/100
Congratulations on this tutorial, the third edition codex was my start in the 40k world and you made an more than excellent homage to it! Cheers! Also love your videos and style, you explain it quite well and understanding why you paint things is an absolute treat
Looks amazing thank you for that
This is truly inspirational. Thank you for being so thurough with your techniques and also showing the colors mixed on palette.
