    Hey josh, I've worn drake forever. Until last season i got some sitka stuff. I'm a 53 yr old cancer patient. And in the past i was always cutting hunts short for being cold. Last season my son and i went to Kansas (same area as you) when it wad brutally cold early Jan. High temps of single digits and wind chill minus 20 or more. I wore the duck oven under the Hudson jacket. I never caulked a hunt because of being cold. Sitka is way better than the drake in MY opinion. Thanks Russ

      Exactly, the duck oven is a synthetic down layering jacket. Best worn under another when the going gets rough. Nice that you are out and about.

    I've been wearing Drake my whole life and it worked great. Last year I got some Sitka EV2 stuff for bow hunting which eventually lead to me getting some duck stuff since I loved it so much. The duck oven paired with the Wading jacket is way better than any of my Drake clothes I used to wear. It fits better and it keeps you a whole lot warmer. The wading jacket is supposed to go over your waders and it has shell pockets like the Drake. The duck oven is a slimmer layering jacket that goes under your waders which is why it doesn't have shell pockets. You will be very surprised how warm the duck oven is for how slim it is.

    I love my Drake systems coat. The waterproofing is by far the biggest pro. I’ve been out in the cold rain and was 100% dry at the end of the hunt. Even the liner coat is waterproof on the upper half. So if it warms up and I need to shed the large the lighter coat fits in my waders and I still don’t worry about getting wet. I love having a lot of pockets so that I can have my gear strategically placed and easy to get to when needed. I also carry a blind bag but it is generally for shells and items that I don’t need at a moments notice.

  • @timhaberberger6992
    @timhaberberger6992 Před 5 lety +34

    This is not a fair review at all. While there's no doubt in my mind Sitka is higher quality, these are not comparable pieces of equipment. The Duck Oven is NOT waterproof. The Duck Oven CANNOT be used as a lightweight, or rain proof jacket like the Drake 3-1 can. The Duck oven can only be compared with the insert of the Drake 3-1 LST, not the entire 3-1 jacket. The Sitka Delta Wading Jacket is the outer shell to go with the Sitka Duck Oven to give you the same options that Drake offers you in their 3-1 LST. The Duck Oven costs $300 and the Delta Wading Jacket costs $400. So the fair comparison would be $700 of Sitka gear vs. $260 for the Drake 3-1. I'm not saying go Drake, all I'm saying is be fair in the actual comparison because getting the Sitka version of a Drake product (no matter what product we're talking about) is going to cost you MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH more than an additional $40. Saying otherwise is misleading. If it were truly only a $40 difference I think you'd see A LOT more Sitka out in the field these days.

  • @MrBowNaxe
    @MrBowNaxe Před 6 lety +12

    Nice review Josh. I'm a Drake fan. I wear the inside fleece inside my waders and if it gets really cold, the shell goes on. I'm sure the Sitka gear is good also but I can't justify spending that kind of money when what I have works and I'm not a fan of their camo pattern. Just my 2cents.

      I agree 100%. I'm in Louisiana, where late season hunting usually means a lot of rain. My Drake gear has never disappointed me, and I do not care for the digital camo patterns. I personally do not find the Drake

  • @jimbarber82
    @jimbarber82 Před 6 lety +1

    I have the Drake LST down here in south LA and I love it. In Nov-Dec I usually wear just the shell jacket without the liner. Keeps me warm and I have the shell pockets so my ammo is right there when the woodies start dropping outta nowhere. In Jan I put the two jackets together and I’ve never gotten cold and all I wear are breathable waders. Totally waterproof even in a driving rain. I keep my decoy gloves and the hood in the big back pocket to free up room in my blind bag.

  • @bigbucksbitcoin2883
    @bigbucksbitcoin2883 Před 4 lety

    I was the guy that made fun of people who bought and wore sitka gear. After I got moved from the field to the office I definitely became ALOT less resistant to the cold. I bought the Boreal bibs and jacket and I'm NEVER cold. When it's super cold... 0-20⁰F I'll just wear a layer of sweats and that system. If it's any warmer I'll just wear jog pants and a tshirt. The stuff really is unbelievable. Worth every penny.

      Thank you for your input. I’m that guy that just layers up because I don’t want to spend the money, then while out there shaking in Michigan’s UP weather I’m looking at duck hunting clothes. Sometimes we boat in, others we kayak and canoe in. I’ll be going with the Drake so thank you for sticking to the point 👍🦆

    I've been using my 3 in 1 for the last few years, this season it was no longer water proof and it wouldn't breathe. It was also bulky as hell. The insulation sucked for me too. I still have the jacket as a backup. The end of this season I got a gradient hoodie and a delta wading jacket. I get too hot even wearing the gradient hoodie and the Delta wading jacket is awesome for waterproofness as well as wind. The layering system is awesome I can't recommend it more. I don't regret it. Granted I didn't pay full price but I think it's worth the money.

  • @trevorstephens9490
    @trevorstephens9490 Před 2 lety

    I have 3 Drake LST’s in different patterns and love that jacket. I hunt from my boat or take the boat to some marsh where we hunt from land. That said, if it’s a real soupy spot, my blind bag stays in the boat, so all the pockets are a huge plus for me! When I wear both layers, I unzip the liner and tuck them into my waders. If it warms up, it’s easy to strip the outer jacket. I’ve never felt the jacket was too bulky or heavy.

  • @GTOutdoors
    @GTOutdoors Před 6 lety +3

    I’ve been wearing the drake lst for the last 2 seasons. Super bulky with all the layers in it. The ammo pockets drive me nuts with the hard part to keep them open. Been eyeballing the Sitka Hudson since last season and just bought the new version the other day. Went with the Hudson over the duck over/wader coat combo just because it’s water proof without having to purchase a second coat.

  • @A4Eaton

    Just got my first Sitka jacket, the Dakota one, and I am pretty sure I'm going to love it. The slimness and how warm it feels then it's going to be perfect. I think the Dakota and my Drake MST hoody and maybe a vest will be about the most I will need here in Illinois.

  • @cjengland82
    @cjengland82 Před 5 lety +1

    I own the sitka duck oven jacket and the delta wading jacket. Not a warmer jacket on the market when it comes to weight/warmth ratio. However, if you wear it as an outer layer more than a couple times in the timber it will rip and tear. It can't hold up to all the abuse without the delta wading jacket over it. By that time you are literaly 700 bucks deep. I have both jackets but, it is very expensive.

    I’m from south Ga and about as cold as it gets is minimum of 15 degrees and I wear a field and stream waterproof and wind proof jacket and hoodie and that jacket works I even deer hunt in it, and since it’s a medium jacket it’s great for wearing all through the fall winter and spring and makes a great rain jacket. Field and stream jackets are great all around and super cheap. $50-$60

    If you’re on a tight budget get the 3 in 1. Or if you only hunt early/mid season get the 3 in 1. If you hunt a lot mid to late season and you’re okay with saving for something nice get the duck oven. I had a jacket similar to the drake and I bought the duck oven last year and it is hands down the best gear I’ve ever used. It’s the most lightweight and warm jacket I’ve ever used. It makes every minute enjoyable no matter what the conditions are. And that’s with layering with nothing mire then a sweatshirt. The only down side with sitka is you need an entire system for each phase of the duck season. Early, middle, and late season. With all of that it’s going to run you a lot of money. To me it’s well worth it.

    I've been a die hard Drake fan for a long time now, but the one thing I hate is the bulkyness. We primarily field hunt now, so shouldering your gun while sitting down tends to be a problem. I just can't bring myself to spend that much on a coat not knowing it's durability. And that's one thing I love about the Drake gear. Tough as nails. I'd like to see if the banded brand stuff is any good. I got to meet Chad Belding a few years back at a waterfowl expo and what a nice down to earth guy. Been a fan of his since.

    • @bradytyler1224

      I can say from personal experience that banded gear is terrible quality. I took a hoodie out of the package and put it on and put my hands in the pockets and the seams ripped instantly. Returned it and never looked at banded again. It also fit terribly.

    I hunt in Upper Michigan so it is nothing to get a -20 windchill on the Lake Michigan mid November. Only downside to the drake is that is it super bulky when matched with a pair of waders. It is a all season jacket with the multiple waders. What it comes down to for me is money and warmth. Like stated below the wading jacket for Sitka is another 400 plus the 300 for the duck oven. I would be open to anything other then drake for bang for your buck and quality hands down no brainer for me where I am from.

    Had the drake 3-in-1.... got drenched in it. It was the first and last drake I will ever own. All sitka now. BTW, Duck Oven is not entirely made of wind stopper-just the top. Fahrenheit jacket and vest are similar to duck oven but are both completely wind-stopper. They have better insulation too. Primaloft Silver DOWN vs reg Primaloft Silver in duck oven. I've put thousands into Sitka clothing, best stuff around.

    There 2 completely different things. The Drake is a more complete, where its actually a jacket. The duck oven is technically a jacket, but functionally its a mid layer or liner, like one of Drakes pull over equaders, no hood and only water resistant, which isnt much good alone. No question that if you could only have 1 the Drake will allow you hunt longer is worse conditions.
