what is your go-to turkey/roast for the holidays? ⬇️
We get Gardien Turk'y Cutlet
Bosh made a vegan Beef Wellington using Beyond Meat (or Impossible Burger ... can't remember exactly off the top of my head). It was delicious! And it took me days to "move" through my system, lol! But I would make that again. I just started making washed flour versions of vegan meat so I might try a washed flour vegan turkey at some point. But to be honest, I wasn't a big fan of turkey when I ate meat. Like Sarah, it was all about the sides for me.
Oh and growing up ham was always the second meat choice on holidays and other special meals so a good vegan ham sounds like a winner to me. When I graduated high school (1,000 years ago lol!), I made my own graduation dinner which featured roast chicken and baked ham.
Tie for Tofurky ham and Gardein Holiday roast. We are serving both again for the 10th holiday season to my omni friends and family and they love them!! Winner, winner, tofu dinner. LOL 🤣
Quorn roast has been my go to for years.
The way that Eric looks at you is just the sweetest thing my eye have ever been graced with, you guys are couple goals!!
omg 🥰 thank you
That's so true. It seems like you two have a really healthy relationship, that's rare these days.
💜 seriously so true ~ I felt a tug in my chest
So you just never want to have sex?..ever?
Eric‘s personality has really developed into something wonderful. You guys are such a lovely couple. You can see the love and respect shared between you two 🫶🏼
I can't quit tofurky because they were there for us the longest. :) The tofurky roast actually has changed a bit, it used to be more rubbery. It is really good if you put a combo of water/olive oil/sage/soy sauce (add potatoes, carrots, onion, garlic, celery to this if you wish!) and fill the pan a third way up the tofurky with this liquid. Also baste it as you go like you did. This keeps it moist, less rubbery. Also, I cook it on higher heat for shorter time to keep it from drying out, getting rubbery. I remove tinfoil at end to crisp up the 'skin'.
Edit to add that I also make slits all around it so that the liquid seeps into 'skin' and I turn it over once at halfway point.
It was my first roast 15 years ago when I went veg. It's a classic and I still have it every year
I think someone made one for a Thanksgiving I went to a couple decades ago, not sure what they did to it, but I'm pretty sure they marinaded it somehow, and they definitely stuck a bunch of cloves through the skin on the outside. It was the best tofurky roast I've ever had. I wonder also if putting some slices across the top of the roast would help the basting to seep in more, although it may just let more of the moisture inside escape.
Oooo I like that! Basically give it a little steam like we did with the ham. I wonder why they don't add that to the instructions 🤔
@@SarahsVeganKitchen Yeah, it took us years to get the perfect tofurky roast because their instructions make it rubbery and dry usually. But we persisted because 17 years ago they were the very first faux meat product we could get our greedy little vegan hands on in the subarctic of Canada. 😄
@@JeffHanke Ooo, the cloves sound yum, great idea. I edited my original post to include that I make slices all around the roast and turn it over as well. Thanks for the reminder!😊
I love that you guys showed the cooking process for them! Also the fact that we tried everything in the same order is hilarious to me 😂
Get out of our brains, Chris!!!
Love the Gardein roast. I stock up during the holidays and keep them in our deep freezer to eat throughout the year. Love your reviews!
The gardein roast has been my go-to for the past few years. I like that you have the option of the big roast or the two mini ones in the package. I usually eat this for both Christmas and Thanksgiving which is a little boring, but now I'm definitely interested in trying the Tofurky ham for Christmas! Thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for watching :)
This is my first year being vegan for the holidays, thanks for this! 🥰
I love Tofurky and I cut the slices way thinner. Definitely cook in a basing sauce with root veggies. If theres leftovers I make sandwiches with thin slices, stuffing, and cranberry sauce! Happy save-the-turkeys day!
I love the fact you're creating more content together! This was so much fun to watch even for someone who lives in Europe and neither is accustomed to stuffed roasts nor has any of these available :D I love your energy and sense of humor guys, you're just so likeable!
Also, to me some of these seem to be OG vegan alternatives which you can clearly feel/taste - but the more alternatives like that the better!
Anyways, sending you lots of love guys!
Have a great week ahead!
.
P.S. The test song was my fave :D
I love your comprehensive reviews!
You guys are hysterical and thank you for giving me ideas for the holidays 👌
I seriously appreciate you both for doing this. You saved me a lot of time and money.
Thank you so so much for doing this again! Years ago I searched high and low for the en croute or whatever Field Roast called it and I will be purchasing the your first place winners this year.
I’ve never tried any of these! This was good. I live in a small town so not sure how available any of them will be but I will be on the lookout for sure! You two are really great together! Great video and so helpful.
Thank you for doing this, it was great to see all the roasts
This video is so frikkin cozy! Love the lights you have in the background.
thank you!! a cozy living room is very important to us haha 🙂
This has been one of my favorite holiday roasts reviews!! Thank you for doing it around this time so I have time to look for them, also you all are hilarious, the “guru Eric” and the “sandwich hands” 😂😂
Great reviews, thank you! Now I’ll see what I can find!
Great choices!!!! We usually have the turkey roast for Thanksgiving and the ham for Christmas
great video guys!!
When these videos come out you know its that time of the year 🎉🎉
Yay thank you this is so helpful!
Love your taste test videos
Oooooh going to try both products tied for #1 😊 thank you both for another great video!
Thank you guys loved this video! Wrote down your numbers ones and can’t wait to try at Christmas ❤
Looking forward to trying the ham this year after watching your review!
Thanks guys this rocked!!!
Thank you! This is so helpful. I gotta try that Gardein
Thanks for the great information, heading out in search of the Gardein roast
To be honest, I liked this video as soon as I read the title lol. It's like you read my mind, I was just getting ready to purchase a roast and was like I NEED one of my trusted sources to review these things please! Thank you 🥰
I love the Gardein roast, been my go to for years. I might try the Tofurkey ham one though 🌱
I would definitely recommend the Tofurky Bologna style slices, they are my favorite kind by far! Thanks for doing this comparison so we don't have to do all this research ourselves lol, loved your content for years!
I literally loved the Gardein loaf so much I went back last year and got two on sale after Thanksgiving for Christmas and my birthday, it's incredible.
Thanks for the video! It came just in time before I actually bought my roast for this thanksgiving. I always get the gardein one but I was thinking of getting one of the field roast celebration roast but after watching the video I think I’ll stick with gardein🤣
My bf and I love the Gardein roast. Recently we went to our local Walmart and found them clearanced out at $2.50 a roast. Glad we have great freezer space so we could buy a bunch!
Great video, you two! 😍
Thank you, loved this!
Ily Sarah ty for another upload
Y’all are so cute 😭 the way you guys look at each other and the way Sarah laughs at Eric’s silly comments is everything to me haha
Loved this! Also, your background looks so cozy and cute. I've not had a lot of roasts but I want to try Gardein's next. So far I've had Gardein's turk'y cutlets, the mini Field Roast roast, and this year I'm having Aldi's Earth Grown turk'y breast
I love the Aldi turkey breasts, but I haven’t been able to find them yet. If I’m not mistaken, last year they got them after thanksgiving, but I’m not sure. You would think they would have them by thanksgiving. I have a hard time finding roasts in this small town I live in.
This was really helpful. We live in TX so when we see a Vegan turkey, we grab it. We never really look at the brand. There are some really good ones and some not so good ones. I’m tracking down the Ham. Looks awesome. Never had it. Love your channel. Vegan for the animals!
I love the stuffing that comes with the a Tofurky roast. The Gardein Turkey cutlets come with gravy which is usually what we get since it’s quicker and easier to prepare. But, we are going to try the Gardein roast. That looks and sounds delicious. Thanks for this timely review 💕
You try the gardien roast and it is OVER for any other roast you have 😂😂😂 that gardien is so subtle and perfect it lets the other dishes shine!
@@MelMeltalks31 ❤️
I loved seeing this, I do like the tofurkey roast a bit more than most people though. Also the editing in this video was 🤌🏼👌🏼👏🏻
Where I'm from we don't eat roasts or turkey so technically I don't have any use of these reviews but I'd probably watch you guys review the grass that grows by your sidewalk. You're just so enjoyable.
Field Roast has a great cookbook. It doesn't feature a recipe for the Celebration Roast but it does have several others. It teaches you the techniques that Field Roast uses for roasts, sausages, burgers, and meat loaves. I would highly recommend it.
Thank you for sharing! I was coming from Sweet simple vegan, so it was a but funny that you mentioned Jasmine 🥰
Norwegian here, vegan for 15 years this fall and you have so many opportunities that we don't have, but I know it has been a revolution both in the states and here in Norway over these years.
I loooove soy, with seitan as my second favorite. There should be more soy options 😋
Thanks again, Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
Love this! Saves so much money not having to buy them myself!
The smoked ham slices are my absolute favorite! I've only ever had the tofurky roast.
I bought the Trader Joe’s vegan roast turkey this week when I saw it and I love cranberries so I think I will enjoy it. Will definitely pick up the Gardein one if I find it and the tofurky ham. The Field roast hazelnut and cranberry one looks like one I have had from one of my favorite vegan restaurants and I really liked that too. So funny that those were lower in your rankings😂. I like the idea another poster had of stocking up on these to have throughout the year. Trader Joe’s used to have a smaller mini roast vegan turkey that I think was really good, but I haven’t seen it in awhile although I could have missed seeing it on the last visit there. Thanks so much for this review!
No access to these as I'm not in the US but still sat here watching cause you two are great! X
aw I love you two I watch this video every time you do it lol
Great test tasting video.Tfs
Omfg my face when you picked my favorite (well the only one I've had) as last place 🤣. Shocking and can't wait to try a different one 😊
I love the taste test videos
Super great video 👍
Love y’all! 😘
Thank you for this
omg yes been waiting on this video
woo! 1st comment award 🥇
After I bought a Gardein, I found out the only other vegan at Thanksgiving doesn’t like it so I cooked it last week all for myself! Loved it. I made budda bowls and casseroles and turkey salad with it and loved them all!
you guys are awesome
Thank you! This is only my second vegan thanksgiving. After a fiesco last year We decided only sides this year. Now I'm thinking we might try the gardain.
Same, Jewish not Kosher but no ham. This video helped us make our final choices this year, thank you!
I love these types of videos! Y'all save me so much money trying all these damn roasts 😂 I am bummed there almost all of the ones you can easily find are gluten based. My stomach would hate me 😔
it’s so funny how y’all and chris and jasmine’s video had so many similarities lmao i love it
Gotta say I agree, Gardein is my top choice as well! Can't remember if I have ever tried that ham option so I will look into it for Christmas :)
The gravy that comes with the Gardein roast tho...YUM! I remember loving gravy as a kid. I'm like Sarah in that I absolutely cover everything with it on my plate LOL But as a grown up animal-based gravy always kinda grossed me out ("drippings" ew.) but this gravy is so good and truly tasty! Highly recommend. I just can't do Tofurky...I get that they've been around for ages and mad respect but it's straight up rubber imo.
Great vid guys, thanks for doing the legwork for the rest of us!
Loved the video especially the trumpet #LFGM :)
I loved this taste test. I’m with Sarah though- thanksgiving is 100% about the sides for me. I usually just put stuffing into big portabella mushrooms and bake them. I might have to try one of these roasts though.
We usually go for the gardein roast or their turkey cutlets! I think I'm gonna have to try the fieldroast one this year though!
The Australian supermarkets started making their own vegan roasts, meringues, cakes etc for holidays and they're actually really good
Oooo i might one of these
Love this video and the editing is so funny. We love the turkeyless roast from Trader Joe's and I'm not a big cranberry fan! I wonder if they changed the recipe? It was so good and we're hoping to get one before it sells out this year *fingers crossed*! Curious what y'all did with all those leftovers? Freeze them?
Maybe we just got an exceptionally cranberry-stuffed roast from TJ's lol. We froze a bunch of them and have slowly just been picking at the ones we didn't freeze haha.
You are glowing sister! Updated skincare routine please 🙏
I love the tofurky hickory smoked slices on cinnamon raisin bread.
really funny and helpful lol i like u guys
The gardein one is always great! Ive even had meat eaters try it and they liked it! I make a homemade gravy and its so yummy!!
Love the gardein roast! I wish I could find the tofurkey ham locally.
Gardein is my definite go-to when I'm not making a lentil/chickpea loaf! 😋
TJ's is definitely my go to every year. I've had Gardein too and it's good but TJ's is the winner for me.
Oh my god I just watch Jasmine & Chris did the same taste test today on there’s channel. 🦃🍗
I made it for the first time and mine was super moist! Definitely a little salty, but I made an awesome very Thanksgiving type marinade with a good amount of water, olive oil and a kitchen sink of seasonings. I also basted a few times during the recommended 80 minutes of baking and then again for the last 15 minutes uncovered. 😊
Thank you for this video! I normally get the TJ's Turkeyless Roast (I got one for Thanksgiving and should have picked up another) but they were sold out a week by Christmas. I ended up getting the Gardein Turk'y Roast which I liked, but the texture was so close to what I remembered meat tasting like, and it kinda grossed me out! The gravy was very good, and also the stuffing. I'm going to get another one this week to give it a 2nd chance, lol. Mushrooms can cause intestinal issues, take a couple Beano tablets with the first bite, and you won't have tummy trouble.
I may need to try the Gardein one...I normally just go for sides, and don't bother with a roast...but this year for Thanksgiving (🇨🇦), I tried the Gardein turk'y cutlets & hated them, but the roast seems to be more texturally close to turkey than those...will have to grab one for Christmas. 🙂
I loooove the tofurky ham. It’s so good. I never liked turkey so I always prefer that one
Aftet watching this im really intrigued by the tofurkey ham. I feel like it would be fantastic thinly sliced, refrozen and used as needed as a “Canadian bacon” style pizza topping. Maybe even in a cheesy potato casserole.
Both of those ideas sound incredible!
Have you tried those 2 ideas, and did it work okay for you? I have the Tofurky ham roast in my freezer, and trying to figure out what to do with it.
If you all have an Aldi near you, they have two different flavors of turkey cutlets, I think one is lightly battered and the other isn't. You guys should definitely try them!
Oooh I didn't know that there was a Gardein turk'y! Their plant based meatballs and chik'n tenders are good so I believe the high rating! I've been cooking tofurky for a few years now and agree with the points made in the video. I still enjoy it, it's just that the stuffing gets messy and it doesn't seem like there's enough of the roast to go with the gravy because the stuffing takes up too much of it. Getting a second tofurky would be costly. Cooked the ham roast this week along with the scalloped potato recipe from one of your other videos and it was total bliss.
Roasting them with vegetables is what I see a lot of people do also. I've also seen them cooked and broth as well.
The garden turkey slice’s actually DO come with gravy! I love them soo much def my fave (I like making my own stuffing) ❤
I really hope quorn will make a vegan version of their roast so yall can try that one. I love it so much. Gardien is my favorite vegan roast for sure. It is the one i bring if there are people who are vegan coming. My cousin her boyfriend and i are vegetarian so we usually do the quorn one cause we all love it. They have vegan chiqin fillets tho if you haven’t tried them highly recommend. You can marinate and grill them!
We always have at least one tofurky for sentimental reasons. It was the first roast we ever had and we've had it every year for maybe 2 decades, idk, a long time. But we also get all of the other roasts as well. We have a lot of vegans to feed over the course of the holiday season. We like all of the roasts! The ham is my personal favorite though.
I respect the rankings, I love the Gardien a lot. I'd get that year round. And then alternatively, I've trashed the TJ roast. I hated it. Great video!
i loveee trader joe’s turkey! but i also love cranberries so that may explain it 😋
I think I would go for the Field Roast
We are having our first ever roast for Thanksgiving and we got the Trader Joes 🤞🏻
Haha totally relate to eating the whole gardein roast myself. I love the gardein roast and I’m the only vegan, so I work through it over a few days 😂
I'm a huge fan of the Trader Joe's roast with home made mushroom gravy. Second best is the Gardein turky cutlets for a low-key holiday.
well this was a fun one to make 🤣
Living in Canada and a small town (not a lot of the fun vegan options that some bigger towns have access to), I haven't tried any if these (except the mini gardein roast ). My favorite roast I've ever tried is the Sol cuisine one. The tofurky ham looks amazing though. I always preferred Ham over turkey before going vegan.
The Sol one is good! We had it last year. We live on vancouver island - the Very good butchers 'roast beast' was really good also - but I'm not sure if they sell it outside of BC
My favorite plant based roast is the Worthington Dinner Roast.
Yep, Gardein for Thanksgiving and Tofurky Ham Roast for Christmas. Done and done. :) Thanks for your service. I'd be in bed w/ peppermint tea and a hot water bottle in pain if I had to have all these in 48 hours. And I'm not allergic to gluten or anything but... I'm on Sarah's team as far as ratio protein to sides. I've always had (before going vegan, 7 yrs ago) 1 oz of meat and 1lb of salad, veggies, rice, pasta, etc... Much Love and Peace from Upstate NY
