- There was a trick reported in GamePro for the original Tecmo Super Bowl decades and I've always wanted to see if it was true. Tonight I had the patience to find out.
*UPDATE* Okay, after receiving some comments and requests, I did some digging and figured out what happened. The trick, as reported in GamePro April 1993, states that if you tie ANY division, wait until the end of the season and see their Division Champion, if you reset right there, the game will resort the playoffs to put all Buffalo Bills in every slot. I tried it again tonight (1/6/17) with only three divisions tied and the trick worked exactly as the tip said it would. What triggered mine was I was recording the result and my cell phone stopped recording in the middle of it, so I panicked, reset and that actually made the trick work. Surprise, my being kind of a dink worked in my favor for once!
So there it is. It's not this arduous task that takes hours of tweaking to get exactly right like my brain thought it was. Anyone with 10 minutes to simulate a season can make it happen. Thank you for all of your interest and your healthy skepticism (If there was this secret even the people who broke the game down to its code didn't know, I wouldn't believe me either). 2:00 funny how New Orleans actually won the NFC West in 1991 and San Francisco actually missed the playoffs.
The game is based off on the 1990 player stats and results and in that one San Fran lost to the Giants in the NFC championship (barely).

I discovered this trick on my own as a kid, and that is not how it works. You just need the very last game in week 17 to be a division clincher. Once that happens and the cinematic plays, you just hit the reset button. That's it.
Shaun Ginty I made an update of that in the notes. I misremembered it because it was over fifteen years ago. I spent the hour digging up the exact GamePro article and getting that to the officers keepers of Tecmo Super Bowl knowledge, and they did their thing with it. Cautionary tale of not getting too hyped up and posting things at 5 in the morning,I suppose.
use to have fun having some teams play more than 16 games by resetting the division winner so they play again heh.

Known as “lurching” - you can do it w every Nose Tackle in the game & Bob Nelson for GB is actually the quickest at it (the programmers gave him 69RP “rushing power” by accident ) - regardless the lurch is banned from all live tourneys & online play / being that if you allow lurching the game is pretty boring & no skill involved. If you want to use any of the 3 DL it’s rule that you have to engage an OL in front of them first or go to the outside of the right or left tackle before can make a move at the QB or RB.
The Bills would still lose somehow :D

Just a heads up, if you ever want to try a new under the radar team against somebody or just the AI, use the Packers because if used right with Michael Harris as returner, Keith Woodside can be a beast, Don Majkowski can throw deep dots t Sterling Sharpe who can catch almost anything, and on defense Brian Noble and Johnny Holland are some of the best linebackers in the game

I've had Tecmo Super Bowl for 20+ yrs. I've been trying to adjust the teams so they're more equally talented. Trades, upgrade, cuts, ECT. What programs did or do you use to adjust the game?
1knarf69 I was someone with way too much time on my hands one night, honestly. Played a few weeks to get a feel how the standings we're going to go and figured out which ones in the last week I needed to finish one way (Divisional rivalries are the trickiest. They couldn't be tied in the last week) and when a result wasn't to my liking, I reset it at the stadium scoreboard before it saved and tried again. Strangely enough, I had to reset Bills' stuff the most because outside of them, that division is DIRE in '89 TSB.
Save the bullshit and forward to 2:40, sheesh.
I rigged the wins and losses using the fceux emulator where i can adjust the save memory. The trick didn't work

I have a question when i used to play this game as a kid i remember at one point and time i was able to change the weather the time clock and the season i could pick the 91 the 92 and 93 season.now that im older i forgot how to bring these options up.do u have a clue.i think after u put so many hours into it these options unlock but im not sure.and yes im talking about the tecmo superbowl for the nes system
Kory Jenkins it couldn't be the nes one because that came out in 1991 so accessing the the 1993 season would make no since I think your talking about the SNES tecmo bowl

I think I know what you mean. I had one on the Sega that I had a choice of three seasons. I don't rememeber the years anymore.
That's definitely the SEGA version. Maybe the SNES version but, definitely the SEGA. You could change the playbook while in game as well. I think the SEGA version was way better.
You go into season, schedule, push A then pick one of the years or do them all in a row.
New Orlean has a offense...receivers are a nasty team they catch deep passes...and the defense is top rated from secondary, middle to dline...

I've probably played 200-odd seasons of TSB, and I've never once seen the Vikings make the Super Bowl. I honestly don't think I've ever even seen them make the NFCCG.
Be hopeful this is not the only way the Bills can finally win a Superbowl.

this game is very glitchy...i have an older copy..and apparently, you had to hold reset, to save your game, on the early copies..problem is..i don't remember having to do that as a kid..Mandela effect? maybe lol..because i have other copies, and you don't have to hold the reset button to save it....only on first run copies i came to find out....BUT...i have a glitch going on with my game...where all the Quarterbacks are playable on any offensive position (not sure about defense yet)..meaning, QB BILLS will be filling all the offensive positions..the later i played the game, other players would magically show up lol..and i could switch them in...and this is with ZERO GAMES PLAYED!!! :D i'm going to post a video on youtube about it soon....i think my copy is slightly broken...as i thought the battery was messed up..and thats why the game wasnt saving...this is my childhood copy from 1991. My brother and I may have broke it, because we played it like crazy as a kid lol...maybe this is the games way of saying "you have played too many seasons". LOL i recently, opened it up, and messed with the battery a little...and it started doing this lol....so....stay tuned! also...I'm from Buffalo NY, and a die hard bills fan :D GO BILLS!!!!

I made it with the pats..Marv cook and a ground game..got destroyed by the 49ers in da superbowl - 42-13..had a 10-0 lead at the half
I beat the 49ers once with the Pats, with some luck. I was down 17 at the start of the 4th, scored a quick TD to start the 4th, got a 3-and-out on defense, scored another TD, recovered an onside kick. With less than 30 seconds, I selected Pro T Flare D and threw to a covered Hart Lee Dykes. Grogan threw his patented moon-ball which HLD jumped up and got, came down, I made the defender miss, and ran in for the third TD in the quarter. Kicked off, time expired, and we tackled the return man for the win. It was awesome.
Anyone can beat anyone in the SB with the right strategy, but it's an arduous slog if you're playing as a bad team. You basically have to do QB sneaks endlessly and just pray to get 5-7 yards per carry; the pass coverage is usually too good. I've beaten the 49ers with the Pats and Colts in the SB many times (but I also played this game obsessively as a kid).
And somehow buffalo would still lose the superbowl.

The Oilers were better overall than all teams defense and offense (combined) together, seeing their secondary was great, and they d-ends was cool, maybe 3 or 4 teams battled me sack wise, Lawrence Taylor [LT] (Giants), Simon Fletcher (Broncos) and Howie Long (Raiders) and sometimes D.Thomas (Chiefs) but my dude Ray Childress always stayed with the most sacks (or I kept him top 3 to 5) and that was great considering all the great defenses out there....
But best defense in the game was the Giants, then maybe Frisco, or Vikings with Browner and Chris Doleman but offense wise come on sir...no team was stacked like the Oilers....they had Drew Hill, Haywood Jeffries, Ernest Givins, Curtis Duncan, and Lorenzo White or the backup running back catching out of the back field.
No other team had the offensive firepower across the board wide receivers wise like them, closest other team wide receivers across the board was the Giants, and then the Raiders with Tim Brown, Willie Gault, Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson, and Frisco had 1 super receiver Jerry Rice and that crazy tide end catching everything (hahahah) I think it was Brent Jones....
Don't get me wrong, Jerry Rice was indeed the best wide receiver in the game, but consistenly Warren Moon always had more yards passing, and more TDs thrown than Montana when I played and I had at least two wide receivers at the top of the food chain always, if not 3 or 4 literally, as far as touchdowns, receiving yards, and usually my tide end C.Duncan usually always stayed with more receptions stats wise.
Houston Oilers was the best team bro., I was unstoppable.
I used the Bengals bc of David Fulcher in the safety position.The best three teams were the,Oilers 49ers ,and Bengals in my opinion.

My brother was good enough he won the Superbowl with New England and Cincinnati. He also won with the Packers many times. One of those seasons he rushed with Darrell Thompson for over 3000 yards. I still don't know how he did it.

Could it be that this takes up less data? Instead of teaching the program a complicated 6-9 team tiebreaker, it defaults to the first listed team in the AFC.
