  • Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES is one of the greatest video games ever created. It also had some great sequels, such as the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo versions. The game's impact can be felt today, 30 years later.

      I'm sending a pixellated Tecmo Super Bowl Reggie White in your field vision to show you the error of your ways. However, to show you there are no hard feelings, I'll also send Steve Grogan out as well, to throw you those lofty passes that can be so fun to catch. Make a day of it, and have fun!

      @@dylanandrich1949 Hmm...I like Daryl Johnston a lot (although sometimes in the III game I'd release him to have enough free agency points to sign Eric Metcalf--to have a hybrid pass catcher, and I dig Metcalf!--), but I can't see using Moose Johnston as the solo guy:-(.

      @@gluserty it's as bad as it sounds. Just so slow... Emmitt is so good in super Tecmo bowl, walker was decent in Tecmo bowl, but I usually used the raiders for jackson. When they released the digital versions of the 1st Tecmo bowl to Nintendo eshops I was excited to go back to it and play with Danny white and hershal walker led cowboys. I get it and it's Aikman at qb, Irvin at wr.... But then moose at rb.... Man... Playing the first Tecmo game with the triplets would have been great... Love moose irl but not in this game. Come to find out all the digital rereleased we're of a build released over seas a couple years after the original... don't know why they couldn't just use the original build. @@dylanandrich1949 Yeah, that wouldn't be for me or many other people either; it doesn't do Johnston any favors making him a player that he wasn't to boot. Sounds like we lose all-around with this particular edition. Sorry for your experience with that; talk about a letdown, as I know how much fun I had playing with the "Tecmo Super Bowl" Cowboys and onward to III.

    Also one thing that Tecmo Super Bowl had that no other football game has ever included, when you team won their division, wether you won a game to clinch or you simmed through the weeks, it would show every team winning it, even though it was a still picture and it announced your team won the division, was such an awesome small moment as a kid. I love this game, still ha e the original cartridge.

    To me it's the greatest football game of all time. And it isn't even close. In a distant second you can argue between Madden 08 and 2K5. I cannot tell you how hyped we were as kids when this game came out. I was 10 when this came out and all of my friends couldn't wait to play this including me. The hype was real and when we all played it we were starstruck flabbergasted in awe whatever you want to call it we were absolutely floored by this game. It was a masterpiece and still is today. • @Americalovesme2008
      @Americalovesme2008 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SOFTDRINKTV But they wouldn't have so many angry and wanting to boycott too. Madden could be great yet you showed first hand MUT and lack of competition still has killed the series.
      NHL 94 is still fun too but when the up to date games were still killing it people only spoke of nostalgia not slamming the product of that time.
      This game will always be a classic for many reasons I love the game even though the SnES version of Tecmo was my favorite lol as it had 3 seasons in one as well. But still Madden should be what ESPN 2k5 was yet its not and people are going to the past to find that fun factor again. Look at Nascar games in which 06 was the last good game as every game since then was not acceptable compared to F1 or Dirt or Gran Turismo.
      Games of the past always have that list but when its still the games many want then it speaks out to what today's product is missing. I wish Madden was great but its not and also I've seen several folks say because of the messages on the back of the helmets and such that they won't ever play it again. It reflects real life ratings too as do a 2021 vs. 2015 ratings comparison and you'll see the decline. Sports games are the same in many ways yes Basketball same issue though they have a ton going for them but other issues are hurting them.
      I get technology changing but the quality of games shouldn't. If I wanted to gamble then I would go to a casino not play MyTeam or MUT. It also lowers the standards for a good game should be and in the end customers lose out. Tecmo Super Bowl will always be loved but when there's more fans of that than modern Madden then it says a lot on the current product.
      Idk but I'm curious in your opinion is there more of a fan fare for Tecmo games or Modern Madden you think? I'm sure with kids its Madden but 30 and over it's Tecmo and it shouldn't be as such.

      @@Americalovesme2008 I hear you, but I will say as someone who grow up on Tecmo and is over 40, I personally always and still do prefer the original John Madden football that came out on genesis and snes to Tecmo Bowl although I did enjoy both and both were hands down better than all the other football games out at the time. Yes Madden is absolute trash and has been for the last 15 years or so, funny how the last good Maddens were when NFL2K was out as well, that exclusive contract killed simulation football games, EA didn't care it was all about the cash, John Madden himself got old and stopped being involved so no football guy holding them accountable.

    I logged so many hours with this game I couldn't possibly calculate the total; from 1991-1993, this was the only game I really played, until the 1993 game came out for SNES. in 2004, I picked this game up again & played it on a NES knock-off (a Yobo, it broke), then in 2014 I picked up a Retro Duo and was back at it (my goal in 2015 was to win a Tecmo Super Bowl in every game using the Browns; I lost the Super Bowl to the Giants in the 2nd season of franchise mode in "Tecmo Super Bowl II: Special Edition" 38-35. I couldn't stop Phil Simms in his final game as a pixelated pro, but I won every other season).

    TSB is the most influential and important sports game of all-time. It has so many firsts: entire player/team licenses, full-season, stat keeping, all-pro teams BASED on the season you just played, injuries, fumbles, touchbacks, customizable playbook, substitutions, tons of play styles, etc. And it was HUGELY fun. Also, at the time, its cutscenes were stunningly beautiful. One of the best games ever, of any genre.

    Thanks for making this video; you did such a great job on it! It's my all time favorite game, and it was the reason I got into football and sports games back in the early 90s. One of my favorite memories was camping out in a tent in my friends backyard in 1992 with an extension cord running out to a 13 inch TV and an NES and playing TSB all night. We had a season mode where we had control of two teams each. I had Houston and Kansas City (I'm still a Chiefs fan to this day!) It took me a couple of games, but I scored my first touchdown with Haywood Jeffires, pro bowl receiver of the Oilers at the time. Earlier this year, I sent him an autograph request letter in the mail mentioning that he was the first player I had a TD with in Tecmo, and he sent two of my cards back signed!

Punt or kick returned on you, double shot. Field goal, half shot. Yes field goals. Once everyone knows the whole playbook, it gets harder to put up 50 a game and u take points where u can when you're not facing l.t. or Derrick Thomas coming through to tackle your holder. I remember taking my own money to Toys R Us and buying a copy of Tecmo Super Bowl. My friends and I would play for hours. It was also pretty challenging. While I would win the Super Bowl with my team fairly often, it was difficult to go undefeated because of player injuries or by players not being at their best toward the end of the regular season. I remember one particular Super Bowl matchup - I had the Giants with Simms in "Bad" condition and the computer had the Raiders with Bo Jackson in "Excellent" condition. I could not beat the Raiders in that scenario. Loved the game. I miss it.

    Nice shoutout to MVP Baseball 2005. I played probably 40+ seasons of that game until graphics cards advanced to the point where I couldn't get the game to run on new computers anymore. I was a stat junkie, tracking the season in elaborate spreadsheets, then dumping everything into an Access database. I even tracked things the game didn't, like no-hitters, hit streaks, grand slams, walkoff hits, catchers throwing out base stealers, and I kept accurate stats when players got traded (the game just sticks all of their stats on the team they end up with). The biggest cheat I think I discovered was having a speedy lefty just hit push bunts toward 3B every at-bat. I had a player with a career batting average over .500, and stealing about 300 bases per season that way. Good times.
