I definitely think the SNES version is the best, but the Genesis version definitely has some neat things. I prefer the Genesis' bonus stage and the option to plant your feet and shoot is nice.
The amount of silliness and humor in that opening skit is just too much for me to take right now…..but I love it!!
I am a Sega fan, but this is really obvious that SNES stomps here.
Sunset Riders' SNES is the closest game to the arcade, while Sunset Riders' Sega on the other hand...
really the snes game has 9 bosses, to sega's 4. cause the smith brothers are 2 bosses at the same time, and you gotta kill both

Just for the record? I was the bass player in a Death Metal group who's most popular song was called "Bury Me With My Money" that had a galloping Western rhythm to suit the theme. We also had a song called "Chiller" based on the ultra sadistic light gun arcade game of the same name.

Not sure if someone's already mentioned this but the extra 2 characters in the SNES version hold their guns at a higher position so they find some enemies easier to hit - eg the two brothers bosses are much easier to beat because you can shoot over their cover.

Damn, those cartridges have become expensive. I used to have Sunset Riders on the Mega Drive. Trying to relive my childhood properly would cost a fortune today.

SNES had scaling/rotation capabilities that Genesis lacked. It also had more available colors and better sound processing. Overall it was a superior machine. Sega had Nintendo beat in sexiness and edge.
Real glad i picked this up for the snes like 10 years ago for $15.

I'm new to this game, but I absolutely love it on my SNES.
Dan tried his hardest to defend the genesis but he was brutally shut down this episode. It felt like I was watching a Phoenix Wright game. Ya the Sega had better ___ OBJECTION! Clearly the SNES is better on all fronts. Good episode keep it up :D

***** The synonym for "Grapple" is "Wrestle". And the synonym for "Craze" is "Mania". Thus Wrestlemania being the most likely choice.
While the Royal Rumble is the starting point for the Road to Wrestlemania, including winning the RR Event = WM Main Event (except this year technically), it is considered its own PPV.
And Raw is neither a synonym for either words or a PPV on the level of Wrestlemania. It is a weekly show for the build up and aftermath of many of PPV, including Wrestlemania.
Additional proof: April 3 is Wrestlemania 32. That will be a few days after Console Wars next episode. The Royal Rumble was in January, so it is too late to make it timely. And the biggest proof: their vgcollect profiles has both Wrestlemania games mentioned, but no other WWF Games.

I'm a Sega mark, but Sunset Riders on the SNES wins this battle fairly easily. I dig the Genny version, but it just can't beat the SNES version.

I'm always happy when I see another edition of Console Wars listed in my subs. I was entertained as usual, but also impressed by how thorough you were. The overwhelming consensus is that the SNES version is best, so the outcome here was no surprise. It's clear Konami put minimal effort into the Genesis version, as the game ROM is half the size of the jumbo SNES version. I'm not going to claim the Genesis version would have been better than the SNES version if it was 8 megs as there are many variables involved with that, but it could have been better than it was. Good to see that there was such a good port on the SNES, though. Great episode as usual.

You missed an important detail. Actually, the different characters aim at different angles. Steve shoots a little bit different than Billy (one shoots a little bit higher); same as with Bob and Cormano. Bob's bullets spread more than Cormano's.

Agreed. I had the actual Sunset Riders cartidge for my Genesis, and still preferred the Arcade version. And the Snes version is the closest without any doubt.
The only real bad thing I could say about the Snes version is the continue crap, but eh, it's still more enjoyable than the Genesis version (the Genesis version is easier tho).
You guys also need to start mentioning how the Genesis songs have those awesome FAT BASSLINES.
On another note, it is normal for most games to use down and jump to slide... I can think of at least 3 other popular games that are that way. Using a separate button would feel awkward. My thumb is always ready to jump. Having to hop to a separate button would be bad.
Yeah, but in Sunset Riders, you also press down and the jump button to jump down from a platform, so to me having a dedicated slide button is the preferred option.

I was waiting for this episode for so long and I have to say this is one of the best episodes I have seen yet!
Even though I grew up with the Mega Drive game the minute I got the game on SNES I never looked back to the one on the Mega Drive, it's good don't get me wrong but like you guys stated the SNES version is just better!
Of course the arcade version is even better, I think you should have mentioned the part in the final level with Richard Rose where the SNES version removes a big chunk of the level for some odd reason that the arcade version had, plus of course the fact you can play as all four characters at the same time on the arcade making it the definitive version if you can go for it!

dunno if you have a sega cd, but how abuot final fight snes vs final fight cd? or fatal fury 2 on both consoles?

I feel like it's tough to compare these, the Sega game is very different from the arcade/SNES.
I like the way the sun shimmers in the opening of the Genesis version, and some of the background skies do a bit more parallax-like scrolling too, but everything else looks better on the SNES version. Oh, and the SNES dynamite explosions just look crap. lol

Easy... just like your mom. LOL
The atmosphere is different, the music feels more threatening and goes well with the atmosphere and gameplay, the snes version also does but i'm saying it's easier with that, you need to use the slide more for the greater difficulty (the slide goes longer because it needs to, +1 point for gen on the slide there, -1 for needing to hold diagonal down, just down won't do the trick)). The gane is harder, but for that you have to advance slower like you were always in a boss fight, speeding gets you killed on the genesis version and you require the slide more often, that's good, and also the reason those used to the snes version think the genesis version has a unfair difficulty. Also, the ammount of characters in the vs. mode is the criteria they used to rate it, that's bull. They should've reviewed it at least. the snes version might have personality, but as of gameplay experience they're totally different games, and i'd rather go with genesis on this one.
@@germanelkapo1 You have a really good points there, but these guys were comparing what's closest to the original arcade version. Snes is clearly there, but i don't mind playing both if i get a chance. Of course some critics there were kinda bull, but it's just their opinion.

They could do Sparkster vs Sparkster as both systems have a version of that game and they're not the same game as I understand it. They can compare them both to Rocket Knight Adventures if they want to get that game into a show and if they can get the games, of course.

Bob actually has a wider shot pattern so that does make him a bit different than Cormano. If you are on the Chief's stage, you can shoot over the rocks where the bomb-wielding bad guys are by shooting straight ahead if you are using Bob, but not Cormano. I know it is a tiny difference, but it does make one.

This one was a no brainer for the SNES. It takes some things from Contra but Sunset Riders has a different feeling, and it is perfect for two players.
Captain America and Caveman Ninja will be next. Especially Jungle Book, which it might be a pretty good material. It graphically looks similiar, but there are major differences in gameplay.
I own and love both versions, though if I had to pick one it's SNES hands down.

I'll admit, I was confused by the whole "Those aren't Cowboys, those are Bounty Hunters" bit, so I "Binged" if the characters of this game were indeed Cowboys. And it is confirmed that they are in fact Bounty Hunters. And if that wasn't enough, it also brought up what the "Cowboy" term really means. A Cowboy refers to someone who works on a Ranch herding cattle, hence the term "Cowboy". So that clears up the confusion.
Also, the puppet says he had a star, that doesn't make him a Cowboy, he's either a Sheriff or a Deputy. lol
