- Quick trip to the local public hole. Watch as I take on both sides of the inlet for a quick therapy session on the sand. Light-line and artificial sand crab jigs is the name of game. Anyone can fish!
*Find these "Surfline Grubheads" at TOPNOTCHLEADHEADS.COM
GEAR USED:
- 2-6# 8' Trout Stick
- 1000 Shimano Stradic CI4
- 5# Phenix Braid
- 6# topshot, 1-2'' leader (I bounce from 4-6# alot)
- 1/8oz Surfline Grubhead (sandcrab color)
- homemade plastic
(Before I had the idea of molding my own plastic crab and a GoPro lol. I used your standard grubs, minnows, mini swims, or stuff from bass pro with equal amount of success. I'll try and make a video showing just that but the know how is right there)
*sidenote: That 1/8oz Surfline Grubhead is built off a Owners #4. Allowing you to use standard trout/crappie plastic! That leadhead was specifically designed for the surfline. Whip it out past the wash 🤘
Those look a lot like the kingfish I was talking about in your surf jig post. Now I definitely want to try them in the Jersey surf. If worse comes to worst, I'll have to wait 'til I visit my brother in San Diego.
I just looked up corvina and it is basically the same. It's hard to tell sometimes cause your California sheepshead are so much bigger, same with your croakers...and perch
It's actually called a CorBina with a B. They have a sucker mouth kinda like a carp would have. CorVina are an entirely different species located in San Diego. Those ones have teeth and fangs.
But yes! Corbina are awesome to stalk on the beach. Very powerful fish on light line. I'm sure you have them or something similar. It would be awesome to see what species would take a surfhead out in NJ. If it eats a mole crab, it'll take a surfhead no doubt. The website was restocked this past Friday and completely sold out today. The next batch will be available next month.
@@FishingWithStingrayDrew Yeah the way I understand it corvina are a group of over 250 different species. I meant corbina. That's the one that looks like our whiting/kingfish. What's the website? I'll check your profile but just in case I can't find it i figured I'd ask.
@@dangareau website is Topnotchleadheads.com 🙂🤙
@@FishingWithStingrayDrew Says you have some 1/4 ounce (lol, 5 total) but dam you got cleared out big time.
It's all good. I'm still definitely interested but I'll order when you have a better selection or pre-order so you know what I want and I don't miss the order window. I'd rather pay and wait than forget later. It'll be a couple months til I need 'em anyway, like July.
I have a 8' Tsunami Airwave Elite Light (15lb braid) that I use in the summer for tossing bucktails to fluke (summer flounder) that might be perfect for tossing these but then I saw 2-6# line which is on my ultralights for trout fishing. Any suggestions?
@@dangareau I think there's 1 pack left now. Yes, recommend 2-6# on the 1/4oz but you can probably get away with 8#. Just set the drag accordingly for that Owner Hook. The 3/8oz is recommended for 4-8#. Any fast action rod will do. It doesn't necessarily have to be a trout rod. Even a dropshot rod will work just fine. I use a 1000 size Stradic CI4 loaded with 6# braid to a short 6# topshot. The fish in the summer aren't far at all. Especially during the low light hours. I love sundowners in the summer to best the heat and crowds during the day. You can easily tie on a short topshot of 8-10# braid on your setup and whip out the 3/8oz no problem. Just set your drag and you'll be fine. The hook is a light wire but it's still plenty strong. Most of the fish aren't very big but they do pull if you tangle into a solid Corbina or especially a large SpotFin Croaker which will absolutely RIIIIIIIIIIIIIP your drag! I'll have another batch sometime at the end of the month.
I've been getting cleaned out every drop. This one had 40pks in both colors & sizes. Gone in 3 days. Pretty incredible and exciting at the same time. I've been dialing in this bite for sometime now and it's pretty cool to see the people stepping out of their comfort by trying something new. Once they figure out the secret to ul fishing the Surfline. It'll change their perspective and life. I know it has for me. I fish for so many species both fresh and salt but this one is the purest forms of fishing I have ever done. Very addicting. Especially in the summer when there's mixed schools and they all eat sandcrabs!
I'll try to remember to give you a heads up when I drop them but just in case I forget. Just check the site around the 27-30th. Should have more up for grabs.
Good job
Thank you very much 😊
Hey ....my old stomping grounds...
Next grunion run ( use a Sabaki rig on pier for sardines and save them) anyway next grunion run go at night and throw a sardine in the shallows when a run comes in ... take my word for it! Real shallow about knee deep! And get back to me!

Yessir! I haven't fished the beach after hours in years but definitely have growing up as a kid.
Under the moonlight. Holes form in the wash from the shallow gulps. It's a thing of beauty!
@@FishingWithStingrayDrew One more before I go ....you know where Huntington "Cliffs " are right North of the pier? The waves break pretty far out there... the first 50 yards or so you walk your surfboard out because its so shallow....well there's " TROUGHS" ( pronounced troffs) you csn see them from PCH they're dark green places that are deeper....they hold the Corvina and Croaker! I use light gear a trout rod with 8 lb MONO barrel swivel egg weight 4; Foot leader and small sand crabs no bigger than a fingernail!
Please let me know when you do the at Night grunion run fishing! 👍✌️
@@FishingWithStingrayDrew when you said holes form in the wash....those are the TROUGHS I was describing! They are dark green because they are deeper....you can see them when standing on " THE CLIFFS"

Sweeeeeeeet!!!
That's what I'm saying 😍😍😍
Hey brother are those glasses good for fishing?
Or they're only safety glasses.
Bomber make great polarized glasses for a great price. I've been using the same pair for the last 8yrs or so. They're beat up but still going strong. Blue tint with amber lens underneath. Diffidently for fishing💯🔥
Where can I purchase Your crab jigs??
Hey, thanks for asking! Right now the special surfline grubheads are available on topnotchleadheads.com
As for the plastic. When they're available I'll drop a vid with a promo code for my subscribers. Hopefully in the next few weeks. Shooting for next month 🙏
I need that jig where can I get them?
Hey, thanks for the inquiry! They'll be available hopefully by next month. Perfect timing because the crabs will eventually dry up. In the meantime . . . HIGHLY RECOMMEND a pack or two of "Surfline Grubheads" (sandcrab pattern or surf perch pattern). Match them up with your favorite grub/plastic. They can be purchased at TOPNOTCHLEADHEADS.COM
Thanks 🙏
