I rarely see KBG seed out enough to bother anyone, but this year has been an exception. Every KBG yard in my area is seeding really hard. Especially those that were woken up and fertilized early.

+1 to this. Seed out is so pronounced this year that it is the first time in the 40 - yes forty - years that I've been maintaining my lawn here in northern New Jersey that I've even noticed this. I thought my lawn had suffered an infestation of an invasive grass species. Makes me wonder what the root cause (no pun intended) might be, and only thing I can think of is that for the first time that I can remember we had essentially NO snow cover this past winter. Might also explain why several of our established skip laurels and butterfly bushes suffered significant die-back this year.

Just a suggestion.. I love your videos and I’ve watched a bunch of your old ones. You say “around this time” in a lot of videos, but watching them a few months or years later, it’s hard to figure out what “this time” is unless you watch right when the video comes out. Would be nice for you to say what time of the season it is for people like me that watch older videos. Thanks for all the amazing info you give!

Then those brown stalks are hidden low and your normal grass will grow and hide them

Great video!! A week ago I decided that I don’t like the 4ft x 30ft mulch area of my backyard and want grass instead. So I started removing mulch on Friday and laid seeds and finished the rest of it today and seeded the rest. I used Kentucky 31, my father in law said it was too late in the season(we’re in Maryland) and that it won’t grow which made me sad. Do you think my grass will grow? I desperately want grass in this area. Thanks so much!!

Yes, once temps get into the 80s regularly, you aren't going to have much success. Late spring is usually too late ... mid April would have been better.. I also have a cool season lawn (central Indiana). Fall is your best time ... be prepared to put seed down in the two week period starting labor day.

For the seed you've already put down and you still want to give it a shot ... water a LOT, keep ground moist but not flooded. My fear here, though, is that the weeds will thrive, but the grass seed won't.

It's not too late. Kentucky Blue grass will germinate in May and June. However, it will be hard to keep it alive during July and August because of the intense heat. You'll have to water a lot in the hot months to keep newly germinated KBG alive.

Given everybody’s advice that it wouldn’t grow I decided to forget about it and try in the Fall. We had 3 weeks intense drought between May and June and I never watered the seeds nor took care of them. We’ve just had a couple of weeks of intense rain(June to July) and this grass grew out of control!! It’s patchy since I didn’t take care of it but the grass that grew looks strong and stable. I’m planning to fix the area in the Fall, I’m done with yard work for now 😂

Drop down to 1 - 2x/week with a deeper irrigation cycle. The surface is getting a fungus. And add a bit of nitrogen to push the grow.

With Equilizorr, aren’t you concerned you’re putting too much P in the soil? I see you spray that triple 18 often.

No. A little less than .1 per app so you're not putting out much at all and it's going directly to the leaf of the plant first. I think it's actually the reason I have done much better with fungus control

Hey Ryan, I had my soil tested a couple weeks back. As I suspected, it came back with extremely high amounts of Calcium, hence why my ground can be hard as a rock when it doesn't rain for awhile. What would be the best way to bring this down so it can be more loose? My PH level is hovering around 7.2. Thanks.
