Tesla Wheel Protection - The Ultimate Genius Solution You HAVE to See!!

- Tesla Model Y and Model 3 wheels seem to be alarmingly prone to getting curb rash. Like many of you, I see Tesla's with scratched, chipped and destroyed wheels all the time. It is interesting because although I have seen curb rash on other cars, the Model Y and Model 3 are the most common I see anywhere.
The reason for this is because unlike similar cars, the wheels and the tires are purposely designed to be as narrow as possible on the existing wheels. This all has to do with rolling resistance. When designing an EV like the Tesla Model Y or Model 3, getting the rolling resistance down as low as possible is important in preserving range. You can actually increase range by going with a more narrow tire on an electric vehicle.
Many people may be used to turning their wheel towards a curb and their tire taking the impact of the concrete. With a Model Y or Model 3, that tire does not have a layer of protection before the wheel comes in contact with the concrete. In fact, the wheels on these Tesla's usually hit a the same time a tire would, meaning curb rash is very common.
There are some solutions and fixes to this problem, but the issue is cost, and style. There are these rubber and plastic borders you can add to your wheels, but they are ugly and stand out. You can have a professional repair your wheels every time it happens, but that can add up, and at some point you may not be able to repair a wheel anymore. The final option you have is to live with the curb rash, but if you are like me, you take pride in you Model Y and would be embarrassed for people to see curb rash on your Tesla.
Enter MagBak, yes the premium cell phone accessories company. Magbak has recently designed and developed a brand new solution to this major problem Tesla Model Y and Model 3 owners face. They have designed and built a new product that adds a sturdy plastic around the perimeter of the wheels, but it does so in a way that is nearly invisible. In fact, not only does the color match the OEM wheels perfectly, they actually designed them in a way that they can't even be seen when installed on the wheels.
These MagBak wheel covers are amazing, and allow you to protect you wheels, and have the opportunity to replace individual pieces as needed if you should damage one. This is significantly cheaper over time compared to having the wheels repaired every time. And with discount code BTG15, you will save 15% off!
Whether you share your car with others who care much less about the wheels than you, or you just want to make sure no costly accidents happen, the MagBak RimCase is a fantastic solution for you!

I just installed this in my MDY, looks great. Installation was a little tough because you have to really press down to make sure each piece clicks into place and I have weak thumbs.
Takes a bit to get it done, but when it’s on, that’s it!
I fitted these to my MY last weekend and I have to say so far they are awesome! Took about 1.5 hrs to fit all 4 wheels as I wanted to take my time doing them properly. Two downsides to these - one is the cost ($600 AUD for 5 wheel kits), and the other is that you have to remove them to fit new tyres.
Yep, sounds right. But glad you are able to see in person what I was trying to say about these
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Yep 100%! They are definitely a terrific product, and will hopefully help protect the wheels for any kerb rash. The turning circle in the Model Y is terrible, and I often find it hard to navigate in tight car parks.
$300 for partial hub caps, oh how times have changed 😂
Lol
$600 AUD for 5 wheel kits delivered to Australia! I agree, not cheap but they are a great product.
I had Magbak rim protector for 2 months. Please double check cases is secure! The first day installed 4 cases flew off in the highway! When I received replacement I haven’t had any issues. Overall great product!
wow thats crazy! I can't imagine these coming off, but good tip to double check
So far mine are staying on securely, BUT I haven't driven on the highway yet (only driven at 40mph at the most). I'm hoping they do stay on!!
@@johnlambert1744 when I added new case it stay on however during rain storm, drive through high water few actually come off.
What a great idea, but the price, lol that's about 10% material of a wheel cover, yet it's the same price, wow, dropped the ball there. Great video bearded wonder..😊
its for sure not cheap, but I suppose if you factor in the cost of repair, this is cheaper.
I think it makes a lot more sense for new buyers to get the 19s and just get some new hubcaps.
19's give you a more comfortable ride too
Yup. That’s what I just did. Looks great. I love the 19’s as well.
Yep. Just buy the uberturbine wheel covers for the 19s. Looks the same.
Very nice indeed! Turo renters are hard on wheels! 😬
Yes they are!
Once these are installed - are they ruined when a tire company (ie: America’s Tire) rotates your tires?
No regrets on getting the silver rim upgrade on our 3 so you can’t see the dings. Lol. We’ve also avoided them so far, and I avoid curbs like the plague. These look great though. I hope they stay on well.
cheers
What about when you get new tires, will these protectors be able to be kept and used? Thanks for the video!
Mine came in today too!!! I had the rubber RimSavers previously but these are much better! I like the modular design, just replace the damaged section!
very nice
They must be a good product, as it takes at least 4-6 weeks to get them. Only downside is Website support is via email only. The only phone # is a google phone # that is never on/answered. They should not charge for the product at least until it ships. If they are having these supply issues, maybe they should run it through an Amazon store instead. At least then, customers could get fast support or refunds. Over 4 weeks, still no product.
Thanks for review/install of these. I was curious how a tire change might affect the covers?
You can take them off if you want 🤷♂️ just put them back on after…
Do they have to come off while changing tires? If so, it’s not a good value since it’s glued to the wheels
Came here to ask the same question.
No they don’t technically interfere with the tire removal process as long as the tech knows what they are doing. Most skilled enough to do it right so every few years you may have to replace
well I had a new Y perf with 5k miles and hit rim. ruined my week. So I Bought a new rim (yikes) $988 installed at Tesla. Had the spare refinished for $170 that I will keep as spare to swap out if happens again. Tesla charges $60 to remount a wheel with existing tire. This option is more but I do not like plastic pieces on my car rims. I need to pay attention but I have an extra just in case I bend or damage a rim in future. Here is hoping I do not do this again for awhile. Most cases rim refinishing can take place with wheel on car but as you see in this video (thank you) the paint has layers that requires rim to come off to do the job right. I could not be without a car for a week or more. Anyway.......
The tire width is so close to the rim width makes it so much easier to curb
The site does not have the rim covers for the 19" stock Gemini's for the Model Y!
Only induction and uberturbine
Already ordered some for our Model Y performance uberturbines based on my great experience with other Magbak products. Can’t wait to get them! Currently says they should arrive sometime in August 🤞
Yea, they are really good
Let me know if they match the color cause the 21” rims are not just black
Why no this product for 19” model Y wheels?
hi my friend
i have Tesla model 3 highlight 2024 performance,
should i remove Aero Wheels that comes on the wheels before install MagBak?
Awesome news 📰 thank you much for sharing. Car looks good after the install. 😊
cheers
Those of us with Model S Plaids don’t drive into curbs. 🤣🤣🤣
haha
Get tires that are slightly wider than the wheels. It's a much simpler solution and will save you countless headaches of having to always worry about damaging the wheels.
That’s an option too
would be cool if it has color options to give it a different look
Yea that would be cool
Pretty cool, I love your videos, what would you suggest for a 19" Gemini wheel?
There aren’t ones for the standard wheels unfortunately
The best way to stop curb rash is to STOP HITTING CURBS. It ain’t rocket science, people need to quit driving like idiots, slow down and drive like your not late for your own funeral
lol
three hundred dollars for these plastic things, but let them be scratched
Yea, those rather than the wheels. And you can replace pieces of this, not the whole wheel
$300 for all 4 wheels, and replaceable pieces (not whole set) when it gets messed up…vs $100-200 per wheel to fix. Pretty much the same concept as PPF. 🤷♀️
@@BeardedTeslaGuy I understand that this is a cool thing, but not for $300. with all due respect, but if you advertised something new and cheaper, it would be much more interesting ;)
You don't need a doctorate in physics to realize that a thin piece of plastic is not going to stop a curb when your 4000 pound car swipes it. You'll be looking like a fool with shattered plastic hanging off and the same curb rash you'd have without it 😂
@@over1498 also don’t need a doctorate in physics to know if you hit a curb with that kind of force, the wheel will be the least of your worries. Most curb rash incidents happen at low speed…
This is an extreme characterization: "this major problem Tesla Model Y and Model 3 owners face" for a "problem" that is purely cosmetic.
Bet you’re a blast at parties!
What happens to the protection when you replace your tire?
What about tire changes from the machine that removes the rim from the tire ?
As long as the tech knows what they are doing shouldn’t be a problem. If not, you’d have to pull them off and put them back on after. Worst case, you’d have to replace them in 3-5 years depending on when your tires need replaced
@@BeardedTeslaGuy I guess if you take them off for a tyre change that must mean the adhesive on the pieces is reduced?
Great product to prevent rim rash, however what happens when you need to change tires? You would need to rip off all the adhesive of the plastic inserts, then how do they reattach. Do you have to order a whole new set with every tire change!
As long as the tech knows what they are doing (competent) you shouldn't need to pull them off.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Given the amount of pressure that is applied to the rim to peel the tire off during a tire change, I feel that is a very unlikely scenario that these plastic components will survive that.
So Kyle got these and gjeebs got these and now you got them. Meanwhile the people who ordered them months ago don’t get them. Wtaf is the deal?
I don’t know what the hold up is. It was delayed a solid month or more from when I was supposed to get them also. I think they are spitting them out now
Do you have or know wheel cover anti thief?
No I don’t
I can test the 21" on my MYP, for science!
Get a set for yourself
Wonder if they will work on a Model X 20 in wheels
Do you know of a company that makes something like this for the model X??
not at the moment.
Run it through a car wash for your next video. Just curious on how it will hold up
i don't dare to drive my tesla through car wash, they scratch your top layer.
not a bad idea
They look nice and probably do a good job. However, you didn’t mention how are you have now covered up the valve cover. For those of us to have a Tesla ask with the 22 inch wheels we have to pop off one of the containers to get to the valve cover. How would you solve that issue.
no idea what you are talking about. They dont make one for the Model X, which is the only Tesla with 22's as an option.
Non-touchless Car wash safe?
should be
After installing the MagBak RimCases, do you hear a strange "swooshing" sound that increases and decreases with speed?
No. You should take a look and make sure each piece is properly installed and the bottom slot is properly over the inside of the rim
Is there any for model x base wheels 2023
no, I wish there were.
Wish there was 19” wheel version of this
yea, I guess would be hard to put on top of a hubcap.
Step 1: learn how to drive properly.
Step 2: repeat step 1.
Lol
Great comment. LOL!!!
Does this work on Tesla model 3 standard range?
17,500 miles on our Y, not a scratch. I learned how to drive more than 50 years ago
Yes, that is what I say. just be more careful with the Tesla wheels.
lol
I have the model x will they fit
no
Do they fit the model X.
Nice
Cheers
Tesla y 19 in hard too find
Do we need to take them off when we change out the tire?
no
Item is not new. Has been out for a while. Best bet is to purchase them if the wheels get damaged, not to prevent it since you will have to buy a replacement clip.
cheaper to replace the clip than the wheel
What if you scratch the Magbak?
then you can replace a piece if you like.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy then what’s the point of getting MagBak? I asked them the same question on fb. They got silent. Finding it amusing when you promote their product.
@@user-rt2rv6gq1s I don’t understand what you are confused about. Would you rather replace a small piece of plastic or repair an entire wheel?
@@BeardedTeslaGuy I leave it as is, call it battle scars. No reason to get MagBak to cover a curb rash for hundreds of dollars then again to replace another when it gets scratched again. LOL what’s the point really?
@@user-rt2rv6gq1s don’t confuse the price of the full set (4 wheels worth) and a couple pieces
Yeah, they look ok, but what about when you have remount a new set of tires. I would imagine the tire machine will rip them off
Sorry the Evbase cheap plastic rim protector does not protect the rim. Not sure of other brands. My tesla rim got scraped when piece of this cheap EVBASE rim protector piece broke off. It was from just a slow wheel turning movement when exiting the parking. Just stay away from the curb and protect your rim. Evbase does NOT post my negativ ereview at their site too
These are really well designed. Can’t speak for the EVbase one
Thanks for the promo code! Been watching your vids since before taking delivery of my 2022 MYP.
How do you think these will hold up to snow and salt in the Midwest? (Chicago: East Lakeview)
Without issue. These aren’t coming off
It will be fun to take it off
What do you do if new tires are needed?
Buy new tires 🤷♂️
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Does the outer piece come off when you purchase new tires and placed back on?
What happened to your red caliper covers?
This was a neighbors car, hence the white paint...
Any effects on mileage efficiency?
lol not likely
I’d imagine that they’d be flying off like popcorn popping when my wife hits another curb in about two days…
hahahahaha
We need a demonstration on how well those work, not a video of buying the product. If I'd get them. I will use the code for the one who shows me a crash test.
Don’t worry, I got you. Couple minutes in on this video right here…Tesla Model Y: What I Learned After 50k Miles of Ownership | Review & Impressions
czcams.com/video/lJ_c3bE_htY/video.html
Man i need these before i pick up my model 3, i just know im gonna scuff them
It’s good insurance without killing the look
I scuffed my wheel cover. Ordered new one from Tesla it's 25.00 , no typo twenty five dollars. Popping it on today.
@@Ramdiesel22 these are not for the aero wheels, only the upgraded, non-hubcap wheels
Too bad, no model X covers.
I know
I wish you would have shown the 'after' shots in the sun rather than the shade.
I feel like I showed both sides of the car…
It’s cheaper to use auto park
Pass
$300 is nuts
They don't have it for 18"
Nope
Why so expensive...??
Expensive? I think it’s a pretty good deal considering just 1 wheel to be repaired would be 150-250. This covers all 4 wheels
@@BeardedTeslaGuy i second that, why so expensive.
Driving lessons are much cheaper….How is this a thing for Tesla drivers….2+ years with my Model Y and zero marks
Yep, but for some reason every supercharger is loaded with cars with curb rash
300+ No thanks. Just learn how to drive. What does this to the wheel balance?
They don’t weight enough to do anything to the wheel balance
Oh OK cool
They look so bad. It'd be better to take some time learning to drive, learning to use the cameras and the boundaries of the car. Now you've made your wheels millimeters wider with cheap plastic that will just get scuffed up again because you haven't taken the time to learn to park without curbing wheels.
Whoever needs these, shouldn't have the privilege of owning a drivers license...
lol
How about try being mindful? Works 100% of time and it is free.
Lol
300$ for plastic…jeezus
not cheap for protection
Cool idea…can’t wait til the Chinese knockoffs hit the market for half the price!
lol
Jesus, to have wheels that bad you are an awful driver. I got a y two years, no scratches, my god
Haven’t had any on this Y. I did have a small one on our first from a stupid mistake but repaired it
Don’t like
Ok anybody here put on their Tesla model y performance? Cause the rims have a slight different color and got like little speckles on them, do they sell them just black??
there's pictures online of them on a performance. They are just as invisible from the same distance.
Do they have one for 2022 model S?
no not for S or X
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Bummer, don’t they know models S/X get curb rash too? Ha ..ha…ha
