    The Ford Maverick and this vehicle show folks want vehicles like this. Since the Subaru's are built on their global platform, they need to bring back the Baja.

      Car based utes were around before Subaru released the baja, and before that Subaru's own Brat. Remember the Ford Ranchero, and Chevrolet El Camino. Also Volkswagen sold a pickup version of the Rabbit in the 80's. But to Subaru's credit, their offerings were more off road focused/capable than this vehicle is. I think I saw a video on YT that indicated Subaru might be considering bringing the Baja back.

    Thanks for the review! I bought a 23’ SEL Premium and it’s been great as long as you understand what it is capable of handling. I appreciate that you got the silly XRT trim with the 18” wheels to show capability. Most reviewers only ever reviewed the Limited with larger wheels. I’m glad reviewers are finally addressing these sport and off-road packages that are nothing more than stickers and added weight without anything practical or useful. Speaking of the side steps, my previous truck was a loaded 11’ Ranger XLT and came with these steps and they were equally as useless. They did make it look cool or more like a big boy truck 😂

In my opinion, the Santa Cruz XRT is designed for those of us that want the feel and style of an SUV with some truck capabilities and not so much of the mud and off road pleasures. The 2025 model may come with updated technology, but I like the looks of the 2024 model.

  • @atmartens

    I think Hyundai was super smart for creating this model. Ford obviously showed that people want a smaller truck. A few things that bug me… the piano black just needs to go. Why do they (car companies) keep putting it in the interior. Second, I really can’t stand the gage cluster is rectangle behind a round steering wheel. So odd to me.
    The DCT isn’t a great choice for off roading so it’s interesting they went with that for this trim but I guess with this money people want the more powerful engine.
    Lastly a lot of people have mentioned this in the comments but the reliability would scare me to much. Yes they have a great warranty but I don’t want to have to rely on it.

    • @RRr-yl8zr
      @RRr-yl8zr Před 2 měsíci +2

      Piano black looks great in a showroom to sucker you into buying it. They don't care that it looks like a Nasty, Scratched up, Dust, smudgy Mess, AFTER You Bought it! 😁 Dang bunch of punks doing that design move! People buying also need to look at design, construction and materials used and things and decide on how that would workout in the environment that whatever they are purchasing would be used in/ exposed to. People should be able to figure this out on their own and say...."nope, not buying this!" That would make BS like shiny black in a car's interior stop a lot faster. 😁
      Or maybe car manufacturers should just start making interiors with all mostly shiny black plastic hard surfaces and the remainder of the interior be pure white 😁
      Oh shoot now some idiots will actually start doing that 😅

I was waist rubbing the b-pillar getting in and out because of a vehicle parked beside, my head was about 1/2" from the headliner, and legs very close to the steering wheel. I can't see many people 5'10 or taller owning a Santa Cruz. I figure this is why the modern compact truck segment hasn't taken off; they don't have enough space with a 4 door cab and no one wants 2 door/access cab anymore, the bed is shallow and not long. The midsize class has a lot more front cabin space and feels more open comparatively.

      2025 gets a new interior. I've driven the 2.5. It has enough power, its direct and port injected so should stay clean of carbon, it seems reliable, its mated to an 8-speed torque converter instead of a DCT, it tows 3500lbs, but... its rated 24mpg combined, when for the exact same power output the hybrid in the Maverick will get you high 30s. None of this is true. Turbo engines have lower compression ratios to compensate for the turbo boost compared to higher compression ratio naturally aspirated engines, or they have variable compression ratios like on some Nissan turbos. Virtually all non-luxury turbocharged engines are designed to run on 87 octane, including this Hyundai. Most naturally aspirated engines are also direct injected for emissions/fuel economy reasons, but this Hyundai if you research is both direct and port injected to avoid carbon buildup. @@RRr-yl8zr

      Thats because these vehicles are not 4wheel drive. They do not have Locking center/low range differentials or Locking diffs, or limited slip diffs. they just have computers monitoring wheel spin and telling the brakes to clamp down or telling the center CLUTCH to try and send power to the rear. The Progams tell the computer "how much wheel spin to allow before clamping down/how fast and "hard" to clamp down. When to send power to the rear and how much. and they "protect the center (and Possible rear clutches) when to engage, how much and when to disconnect and let you down to try and protect themselves. The computer program changes these settings to perform differently in different terains. With an AWD system instead of a 4x4 system , You Want a GOOD Computer Operating/monitoring System.
