Nah, some people find words starting with the 's' consonant hard to do without a preceding vowel sound, especially when it occurs after a word ending in a voiced consonant.
I am not sure why this is, because the consonant by itself is just a hiss which is something anybody at all can do.
This is very common where I live; a lot of Bengalis add a preceding 'i' to words starting with s. For instance, 'school' is spoken as 'iscool' in the Bengali accent.
Whatever the case, I do like that it sounds like he's saying mis-speak. It is, as you say, one of his rare instances of honesty.

If walls didn't work, then civilizations ranging from Iberia all the way to East Asia wouldn't have spent loads of money building walls around their cities from ancient times up until the invention of cannons. You just have to look at Hungary for a modern example of border barriers working, as their illegal border crossing plummeted 99%. You can even look to our own border where new fencing has been placed to see that border crossings drop. The simple fact is that walls work regardless if they are defending cities or entire nations.
