It would be interesting to see his complete full rogues list had everything been canon even the unnamed characters or the “random thugs” it would just be cool to see Batman enemies all in order from first appearance bc the concept of the rogues gallery makes me wish EVERYONE he had to deal with was in his rogues gallery and not just the popular ones bc the term rogues gallery is basically meant for all enemies not just the popular ones
Couldn't agree more. Batman '89 was a revelation at the time. It began the modern superhero blockbuster era and has influenced almost every superhero film in some way over the past 30 years. You're exactly right; the Batman brand was EVERYWHERE and on EVERYTHING, lol. Also, I had zero interest in the character until the movie came out; but afterward, I began to haunt my local Walden Books to read or buy everything related to the Dark Knight. Burton's movie sparked my love of the Batman character and got me into collecting comic books in the 90's. Year One, The Killing Joke, Year Two, Dark Knight Returns, Shaman, Blind Justice, Knightfall - I would have missed out on all of them if not for Batman '89 and Danny Elfman's amazing soundtrack. What a movie.

1989 truly was the most crucial year to Batman. In fact, my favorite Batman story of all time is from that year: Arkham Asylum. Yes, I know you don't like that book, but I respect that, for Grant Morrison is a polarising writer.

The Burton film, reruns of the 60s show on the damn Family Channel (which I always made sure to tune in for), tee shirts, accessories, I mean yeah it was everywhere and it was just exciting. And it was around that time that I started to get more into the comics. My older brother had the entire KNIGHTFALL series which I mostly read/very healthily skimmed. Eventually bought comics of my own (Batman/Dracula Red Rain was one, Batman v Predator….). The impact of the 89 film and the ensuing Batmania cannot, CANNOT be understated. Enjoyed the video, man. Reminds me of how popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were where apparently they sold a crap ton of toys to the point where the first note of the theme song made people buy something with a turtle's face on it.
I've always considered the most underappreciated Clayface story to be the Ethan Bennett arc from The #Batman, as that series basically made Ethan its version of Harvey Dent, Bruce's close friend who takes a tragic fall toward villainy. The Batman '89 tie-in comic's likeness of Jack Palance is stellar. Well, Gotham by Gaslight does have a parallel to Batman '89 in that Batman fights a character named Jack in both of them.

Nice recap. My only problem with the Batman '89 movie was the Joker killling Bruce's parents. I'm so confused by this recap due to the fact that Knightfall happened on 1993 so its like a jump in time to talk about 1989 again.
Gideon falls is a fantastic comic. I collected read each issue from the day it was printed. Sorentino was fantastic during his run on old man Logan and secret empire but I love him most when paired with Jeff Lemire
There are stories in legends of the dark knight that make me question the canonicity of the series, outside of issues that tied into crossover events like Destroyer, Knightfall, and No Man's Land.
worth nothing grant's arkham story is a response to batman's growing mental issues in the 80's (legit, there's even a theory by grant that suggests it's a bad dream that causes bruce to go from obsessive vigilante to a more zen-like hero)
Personally speaking, Arkham Asylum is the only Grant Morrison comic I like, yeah I'm sorry to say but I really don't like Grant Morrisons work. Though I do like Gotham By Gaslight more.

Hey everyone, not related to this video but the comic series "The Batman Adventures" the comic tie-in to the animated series issue 13 is titled "Last Tango In Parris" now the issue is really good and I recommend it, but there's something about it I don't understand. Why the hell would they name that issue, after the steaming pile of garbage that is "Last Tango In Parris"? In my mind you don't associate Batman with that catastrophe. You see in that movie, there's a scene where the lead female protagonist gets raped which I think it's bad enough to have a scene like that and with the main character doing it no less, but what's worse is the story behind it. The scene was not even in the script, it was the director and Marlon Brando's idea to have that scene in the film, the actress felt terrible. I feel really bad that she had to go through that, this sort of thing really makes me upset, I can't forgive the people who thought that was good to put in the film. Further more, I think Last Tango In Parris should be forgotten and never talked about again. I just can't understand why DC thought it was a good idea to name that story after that train wreck.
@@SalazarKnight Okay, I heard there was a warrant for Marlon Brando's arrest for that scene, if you ask me he should have been arrested for that. I know Brando would later go on to play Jor-el in Superman 78, but here's the thing, the movie was good, but Brando was a bad choice for Jor-el in my opinion, Christopher Reave and everyone else made that movie great. I just hate bad things going unpunished.

I do agree, the film snowballed the demand for Batman but shame those annuals are overlook.
