- Shannon Sharpe and Gilbert Arenas react to Allen Iverson clapping back at ESPN's Brian Windhorst claiming that the retired Philadelphia 76ers legend wouldn't be as effective in today's NBA. Unc and Gil debate the validity of Windhorst's claim and if it's a situation where we're all arguing just to argue.

He's avg around 35 to 36 on a bad team shooting 25 shots a game and around 30 and more efficient on a contender because they'll have other scoring options. Use logic instead of feelings. Marbury would be a all star in today's game
Stephen Marbury, if he stopped playing hoops after the NBA wouldn't be a HOFer, but he went to China and blew up, winning championships and becoming a big celebrity over there making him a pro basketball HOFer because of his international exposure and feats. The HOF isn't JUST the NBA HOF, it's the basketball HOF.

@Earl_TheSquirrel: Marbury could be a Hall of Famer because it’s not the NBA Hall of Fame but the Basketball Hall of Fame & what he’s done in China, he’s beloved over there & helped to grow the game in China. You count his whole career & I can definitely see him getting into the Hall of Fame at some point

Cheryl Miller has Zero pts, assts, rbs, in the NBA but was inducted into the Hall of Fame because her impact on the game of basketball was so tremendous. Marbury came from the streets of New City to shine at Georgia Tech, then to the NBA where he was an elite PG and then made the same impact on the other side of the globe where he solidified himself as a global force in the game of basketball. He earned his way into the NBA carrying the hopes of his entire family, embracing the responsibility to have his families name on the back of an NBA jersey. How does a man whose had that much impact on a game on every level, on two separate continents, not be considered and inducted into the games Hall of Fame?
To add to this conversation, I strongly believe that the Fab 5 should be inducted. The impact those 5 kids (at the time) had on an entire nation, the kids in the communities across the nation is Hall of Fame worthy. There period should be enshrined and eternally celebrated. What they brought to the game will never be duplicated.

The HOF argument ... For Football, it is the Pro Football HOF. They have separate for college. For Basketball, it is the Basketball HOF. That is why they consider all levels for B-Ball. You have HOF college coaches like Coach K and Roy Williams, who never coached pro ball.
But they were apart of the team meaning they were the head coaches
During A.I era teams were averaging 97pts per game.
Today teams average 114pts/game…
With this free flowing game you can go ahead and add 5-6pts and a couple more assists on average to his stats. And he’d be shooting at a way higher %.

He would be more efficient with the evolution of the game and have more assists if he want to win, since he would have way better role player than in the early 00's. But adding 5-6 pts is ridiculous since nobody in the league take as many shots as prime AI. Dude was the best high school football player AND basketball player in the country, and he made it to the Hall of Fame playing the sport he was SECOND BEST at! And if we being honest, AI played hard but he half-assed his career and still won a bunch of scoring titles and made it to the HOF. It's silly to say he couldn't average 40 in an era that can't keep anyone out the paint.
Stephon averaged 19.3 ppg, 7.6 apg, and 1.2 spg during his NBA career. Easily should be in the hall of fame the man had I think around 8 consecutive seasons averaging 19-20ppg and 7-9 apg

Never question the answer!
Iverson’s athletic gifts and skill would absolutely translate to any era. The man could do things no other man could, that’s timeless
When I watch Ja Morant it reminds me of Iverson.
Well it’s not the PRO basketball hall of fame it’s the Naismith BASKETBALL hall of fame
It depends on how efficient he can be as a scorer and actually play team oriented basketball in this new era. If he barely shoots 40% and cant play winning basketball with another guy who can do his thing like he did with the sixers no one is going to make him the focal point of their offense. I do think he can play more efficiently in this era but i cant envision him being that efficient scoring 43 points per game because he has never been an efficient player and no team is gong to allow him to hog the ball and shoot like he did with the sixers
Iverson put up numbers when they played defense, so what makes people think he couldn't do the same in the defenseless era?
The one small point guard that was physical at the rim.
Iverson would be even better because the league plays less defense than the era that Iverson played
SGA averaging 30. AI averaging at least 35 in today's game.
If you look at his field goal percentage, it was pretty low. It’s not about the ability, it’s about the efficiency.
Right
He would be unstoppable. He was from the relentless guard era where no one could stop him from getting to the basket. And he ain’t pulling up from 3, and there’s no big man clogging up the lane to help
Y'all hating Windy because he spoke the truth. It's not that Iverson wouldn't have the ability to average 40 but that it's impractical.
My problem with discussion of different eras is that they forget one important point, the ability of the player. If Bill Russell would play now we have to include his winning two championships in college and Olympic gold. Against the best players of his era these were his stats. So if he would to play today his stats should be among the best of the current players.
Gil tryna make a case for him to make the hall talking about marbury 😂
Some players from back then wouldn't be as good but AI ain't one of them
The fact that Iverson’s peers came to his defense say it all…A.I at barely 6ft was in there with the trees scoring and was tough as hell…man dragged a team to the finals and it took two HOFers to deny him

Is it though?? Firstly AI is the one that said he could average 43 in today's nba, windy said he wouldn't, and his style of play, ball dominant, low efficiency is not how teams play now within an offence
,and his defensive liabilities would be a problem in today's....they are all fair, and ja is small, but he's alot bigger than AI.
Marbury is definitely not a HOF the way y'all bash other players.

The ppl coming to Iverson defense, are emotional or players that DIDNT play in todays era. The game is diff. Iverson would be forced to pass when he drives. He would have to play like Trae Young and other small guards play.
He would avg 30, sure... but not 40... STOP IT

Marbury should not be on the Hall of Fame. Great player, loved watching him play, but he doesn't belong in the HOF. They be trying to put everyone in. 😅
In AI's era, there were guys on the floor specifically just to play defense, to get 6 fouls, to rough guys up or just to double team. Before today's era, it was more I'm gonna stop you from scoring mentality while today is more I'm gonna score on you mentality.
Not to mention he took the cross over to another level because he started jumping backwards away from the rim to various spots to get his jump shot off, not even Jordan or Kobe used
AI would be a beast in todays NBA
So if Ai would average 43, what would players like Kobe, Shaq, TMAC average? 50, 55, 60 per game? Lol
I honestly do not know. This era of the NBA is weird. You would think with the scorers we have in the league, someone would have averaged 40 by now. KD, Steph, Luka, others. If Iverson had a team similar to the way his teams were built back in his era, possibly. The team he took to the finals were nothing but defenders for the most part. He was the #1, #2, and #3 option offensively for that team. The offensive skill level of these players today are at an all time high. To average 40, he would have to shoot every time he touches the ball because if he kicks it out to the shooters of today, they will knock it down.
The basketball hall of fame is not just for pro/NBA basketball, its for all basketball.
I'm not understanding where Windhurst is coming from
