PragerU posted a video called "Why God is a He," hosted by Dennis Prager himself. He argues that the biblical god is considered male for practical reasons. Prager asks, "Is God a man, a woman, or a genderless force that cannot be identified by masculine or feminine traits?" Dr. Hector Garcia, a clinical and evolutionary psychologist, author of Alpha God, joins me here to debunk Prager's claims, and show how evolutionary psychology explains the biblical god's gender. That god is a typical alpha male primate, which in the old and new testaments, acts with jealousy and aggression, like any male ape would. Thanks for working with me on this PragerU response, Doc!

Majority of Hindus worship Mother Goddess in the form of Kali or Parvati or Durga and they are more afraid of her wrath than that of male gods in the Hindu Pantheon. Celtic pagans used to fear Morrigan- goddess of war and death more than anyone and anything else. The Greek goddesses Athena and Hera inspired as much fright as their Thunder God Zeus. In Mesopotamian culture, Ishtar/Inanna enjoyed more power than her counterparts. His claims that a woman in the clouds couldn't possibly inspire fear and reverence are as baseless as his claims about the divinity of The Bible.

You raise a good point, but actually as the psychologist states, it’s possibly more related to the difficult women have with how society treats them, making it harder for a single mom to provide on her own. That’s relevant because the statistics explicitly show that it is the lack of a father (not lack of a mother) that’s correlated to those negative outcomes. It’s also worth mentioning that a child being fatherless is way more likely than being motherless, statistically. So you may still be correct if that’s what’s causing that correlation. (Unfortunately, correlation cannot prove causaron, so we can’t say either way - but neither Can Dennis Praeger!)

@Daniel De saint malo Zeus was the kind of God that would constantly cheat on Hera for other women, mostly mortal women, most of the time in a different form like an animal or a shower of gold. Furthermore, he doesn't fall along good nor evil due to being a literal God, that has a fairly good reason to be arrogant, that typically only needs to worry about other Gods, and many mistakes he makes can be reversed or subverted in some way. Despite those flaws, he still shows at least some kindness to the women he slept with, his descendants, and other beings he has respect for. And has certain rules that are pretty reasonable such as not killing family members and rules that can benefit mortals like showing hospitality to beggars. If the beggar is a mortal, then the host has shown kindness to someone that needs it. If the beggar is a disguised God, then the host will be rewarded by said God.

@@aa3302 You're certainly right. I should have said that more clearly. I was speaking very, um, broadly about a very nuanced subject. Even the term "medical" was a poor choice of word. Perhaps I should have said that being trans is biological, not some arbitrary choice made because of a person's preference in clothing.
But, yes, studies into trans people with GD have demonstrated that there is a neurological cause behind at least that portion of the trans community. This is important to acknowledge, because it refutes the whole "y'all just wanna sin" thing. Also, it's a shame that there hasn't been more research done into non-binary identities. So often people fail to accept non-binary people because, without research being done, no one feels compelled to take them seriously. I really hope more can be done to bridge the gap between the binary trans and non-binary trans communities. So often they is friction between them do to very different experiences.
My point more largely was that saying "gender is a construct" is actually a harmful sentiment towards the trans community. As you pointed out about my blunder, I think it also an important to make the distinction between gender and gender roles. Gender roles are a social construct, but gender is an immutable characteristic of a person's identity. To tell a trans person that "gender is a constuct" is like saying they're not real. It's like saying to a person of color, "race doesn't really exist, evolutionarily speaking". It de-legitimizes the experience of a person's identity in an attempt to seem forward-thinking.

Evolution is a lie. There is abundant evidence that disproves the absurd theory of evolution.
First of all, there are zero transitional species. There is not a single species which is a transition between two kinds of living things.
For example, Tiktaalik is said to be a transition between fish and land animals simply because it is a walking fish.
But Tiktaalik is not a transition. It is simply a fish.
See, Tiktaalik couldn't be a transition. Tiktaalik supposedly went extinct 380 million years ago. And yet there are still species of walking fish today, such as mudskippers.
So how come Tiktaalik (a walking fish) evolved into land animals 380 million years ago, and yet mudskippers living today still haven't evolved into land animals?
For another example, Archaeopteryx is said to be a transition between reptiles and birds. But Archaeopteryx is not a transition. Archaeopteryx is simply a bird.
See, Archaeopteryx couldn't be a transition. Archaeopteryx was found between layers of other bird fossils. So how can Archaeopteryx be a transition if the organisms preceding and succeeding it were undeniably birds?
Secondly, there are zero transitional organs. There is not a single organ which is a transitional form between two different organs.
For example, lungs supposedly evolved from swim bladders.
And yet there is not a single organ that is a transition between the swim bladder and the lung.
For another example, the heart supposedly evolved from smooth muscles.
And yet there is not a single organ that is a transition between smooth muscles and the heart.
Third, there are zero transitional organ systems. There is not a single organ system that is a transitional form between two different organ systems.
For example, there is no organ system that is a transition between the circulatory system of an animal with a heart and the circulatory system of an animal without a heart.
For another example, there is no organ system that is a transition between the nervous system of an animal with a brain and the nervous system of an animal without a brain.

Why do you think God is obligated to make everything "alright" for us on earth? He isn't. Earth isn't heaven, we are meant to have periods of suffering because through suffering we may come to know God in a way that is far deeper than we could otherwise.
A mother may experience that pain of loss of her child dying of cancer, and though this is bad, that's not to say there aren't morally sufficient reasons God has for allowing such things. After all, we have no idea how this may affect events in the future.
If we were not meant to suffer on earth, then what would even be the point in living here? Why not just live in Heaven from the start?
At least in Christianity, suffering has a purpose and a silver lining. In atheism, there is no purpose for suffering and no silver lining. It just exists to make you miserable and nothing more.
You wouldn't dare tell a child dying of cancer that they just cease to exist when they die, would you? If you would, you're a despicable person.
A good person would say God is with him and soon he will be in God's Kingdom, where there is no more pain and suffering. Even if you're an atheist, you should still tell them this. There is no risk of giving them false hope, because if atheism IS true, the child won't know it, as he'd simply cease to exist when he dies.

As a Swedish person I want to add a note on the high rates of unwed mothers in Scandinavia. A lot of the time it's not single mothers, but rather unwed couples. Marriage is quickly becoming outdated but couples are still together, just without rings on their fingers. My own parents are unmarried (but have been together for 30+ years) so I guess my own mother would add to the "unwed mothers" statistic, but she's not a single mom. Also in divorces custody is normally split 50/50 unless either parent is problematic enough that they shouldn't be around their kids too much, so divorced mothers don't get the entire burden of their children either, the father does his part.

    • @franktherealist481

@@Justanotherconsumer I'm well aware of the false prophets claim in the bible but here's the thing, its irrelevant to the hate and sheer inconsistent messaging the rest of the bible has.
I'm am an avid reader, studied the bible and came to the realization that it's no different than any other work of literary art and yet it is by far more inconsistent in messaging than any other literary work of art.
You can take the temptation of Jesus by Lucifer. Almost every theist who knows that story says it's about humility. I dont see it and here's why. Why would Lucifer tempt Jesus with what is his father's? Isn't Jesus and God one in the trinity that is God? Did not God conceive the world and planned it all before he made it and then created it as he planned it? If so, as is claimed, that means that it all belongs to him and the idiousy of Lucifer, who knows God personally mind you, tempting any one with what's theirs is pure fiction.
There's plenty more of that kind of nonsense and poor story telling if you just read the bible as it is. Story book literature. An all knowing, all powerful God wouldn't be so inept as to have such an idiotic event happen to Jesus and then have it explained away as he showing humility when it clearly isn't about that.
So, false prophets, fictional temptations, slavery, genocide and the occasional "be subservient and obey God even if he's wrong so he can love you" lectures that seem to sway the ignorant who believe with out questioning why so much inconsistent garbage from a God who is supposed to be all about love...
In the end, I lost my train of thought but why would I care about what the bible says when every single person on the planet will interpret that book, the alleged word of God ,their own way? To me, any words coming out of that book is irrelevant and unimportant. It doesn't demonstrate a good God nor his existence. That's where I am. Beyond that, I'll continue to be the best humanist I can be where every one will be treated with respect and dignity, assuming they show the same. I will go out of my way for anyone and it doesn't matter who they be. Gay, straight, black, white, latino, Asian whatever.
Humanity is humanity and that's all that matters. Seek out the good people and discard the bad... simple.

    • @Justanotherconsumer
      @Justanotherconsumer Před 5 lety +2

Frank The Realist it’s a collection of works by a variety of authors, often heavily warped by translation and cultural distance, so the inconsistency isn’t surprising. I don’t see a lot of “hate” in the book, but it really depends on how you interpret it and I don’t deny that hateful interpretations exist.
It’s a question of metaphysics - does the truth (in this case moral truth) exist, and if so, can we know it?
I am of the school that it does but human knowledge of it will always be imperfect.
I view as hubris the stance that the Bible presents some final and perfect answer and that we have all the answers (there are some Christians that believe they do have all the answers). Only God has all the answers, and setting myself equal to God is... not justified given my knowledge of my frailties.
I view as immorality the stance that there is no such thing as morality and that whatever gives us the most dopamine is correct. Tyrants and terrorists and mass murderers and slavers all thought what they were doing was good and righteous, so feeling good about my own morality is not something I’d take as a meaningful evaluation.

He also fails to realize that the reason single-parent (usually single-mother, which he assumes to be all the cases) children tend to be less adjusted isn't the lack of a father figure per se, but rather the lack of income and/or absence of the parent which has to spend most of their time working in order to support their children's life.
There's no way to prove a male god in a society dominated by a monotheistic religion is better at making men act civil then a female goddess would have been. The only way you could ever prove that is by finding a society that is exactly the same, except with a female divine figure, and proving said clone society has less civil men. That is, of course, completely impossible.

All that matters is that someone believes the god is real and choose to follow it's teachings. So, given that the concept of a god is a real thing, then the gender of that god does in fact have real world effects on the followers of that god, and Prager's points are valid. I'm having a son in october, my girlfriend is unmarried.
Most of my friends who are having or have had kids are unmarried.
Also, maternity leave is a big pluss for the family, not just the mother.

The females chased out any aggressive males and only the most docile males were allowed to be a part of the group. It kinda proved the efficacy of strong female leaders to make a peaceful group since the aggression was not tolerated.
