I actually recently realized the strip mall epidemic in Hampton Roads. They're litterally everywhere ypou turn from Cheasapeake's Greenburg Mall to Williamsburg's Premium Outlets, and you see thousands of businesses that seem to have no meaning. Then when a mall closes down its in the local news for weeks.

Virginia Beach is where The South begins. It's also the second largest city in Virginia. Chesapeake is slightly bigger. I love 7-11.

Hello my friend, I just signed up. I enjoyed your channel, but I missed seeing the houses that are for sale. I hope I am not being offensive by suggesting this but, I follow a channel called "Pablo Farias na America" where he shows the inside of houses that are for sale, the prices and the neighborhood around the house in the state of Florida. I find the format of their videos very interesting. I haven't seen a channel from the northern part of the USA with a similar format. Success to you!
I used to live in vb but now live out west. You really nailed the vibe of the area. Had a good chuckle when u said u can get bored out of your mind at times with the strip mall culture. At least u have all those beaches to break up the redundancy.
You are obviously not from vb. My family has been here since 1619. We are suburbs because Princess Anne County was the outskirts of Norfolk and the rest was and still is mostly farm land. The Ocean front was a tiny town of a few blocks. A hunting and fishing resort for the wealthy. Our biggest industries are military, farming and tourism. We encompass over 300 square miles.

Very good summary. The redundancy also exists on the oceanfront itself. There's a Sunsations, a Forbes candy store, a Ben &Jerries, and a # Street Grill every couple blocks.

Do you see the 81 7-11's as a good thing or a bad thing? I could not tell from your discussion. Also, newcomers may not be expecting the wedding cake plastered ceilings in many of the dining rooms of the homes build in the 60's - 80's... I don't know how many homeowners have removed the wedding cake ceilings. I removed the one from the first home I purchased in Virginia Beach.
I’m considering moving here pending a job change but am worried about the military presence. I once lived in Dayton and worked at Wright-Patterson, which essentially controls the town. It was probably the worse experience of my life and nearly ruined my career. It was very cult-like, weird, provincial, and redneck. Fortunately, this time around I wouldn’t be working at DOD, but I’m scared of getting into that type of environment again and am wondering if the experience in Dayton was a one-off thing or if this is typical for any town with a large DOD presence. I would be working in DC and commuting one day each week while working at home for the rest. I considered Virginia Beach because my husband (we’re gay) is retired and wanted to live in a beach location in retirement, and the real estate market from what we’ve seen appears to be too competitive for us all the way down to a Richmond. Any advice is appreciated.
I was born and raised in VB and recently moved back after 7 years in Boston. While we miss our urban lifestyle up there, VB is definitely not as conservative as it used to be, and with things like Pharrell's Something In the Water music festival growing, the city is becoming more and more inclusive. There is definitely a level of veneration for all things military, but I find that we are able to avoid it when we want to. I also feel that the large active duty enlisted military presence keeps the cost of living reasonable, given everyone knows what their income is and they have to be able to have housing. I'd recommend visiting in both the tourist season and the shoulder seasons to get a feel for the city. Personally April, May, September & October are my favorites because you'll find the Oceanfront to be very accessible with many free, low cost parking options available. There are also multiple low-key beach access points to avoid tourists in the summer. Hope that helps in your decision making process! Happy to answer any specific questions you have.
If you had that kind of problem in Dayton you won’t make it in DC or Virginia Beach cause it’s not how you describe
@@Datroothstr8100 I’ve lived in DC before. So, I know how it is. The post is rather irrelevant now. I visited, applied for the jobs, and went on the interviews. It isn’t going to work out due to multiple factors, not just over VA Beach, notwithstanding that the Fed is scaling back remote work and telework.

I live in Virginia and everything he says is on target. There are nice neighborhoods but the beach area is
t-shirt shops, expensive parking rates and big ugly motels that block your view of the ocean. No idea why he spends so much time talking about FROGS (carriage house). Lots of property crime in the summer.

Yea, I didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary, don’t like strip malls, and gas stations. Don’t go to the mid west lol

no homless, beyonce first ever gym flex gym virgnia beach va. 1 healthest places world, maybe bec extrme us millitery stay and retire, more extrme sports more gyms more hard core gyms, winning atomosphere. i am in los angles its lazy slackers snowflake gym hardly any gyms, everyone smakes cigerttes do dope, not many people into healthy. i thaught be other way around
