    Excellent information some of which is seldom talked about. We visited raleigh for the first time two weeks ago and the lack of streetlights was definitely noticeable. My friend told me stories of him hitting a deer at night. I enjoyed hearing about the proximity of the cities and I've heard they all have their own unique character. Looking forward to relocating

    I really look forward to the politeness. I was born and lived for 26 years in rural NJ where I learned common polite behaviors. Moved to a suburb in FL four years ago and people are not even just selfish, but sociopathic. (And I will be happy to be labelled a 'half-back' if it means getting out of FL :P )

    oh my god the roads were so wild driving through there! The city I currently live in in the midwest is a grid structure and most of what I am used to in my hometown was very spread out country roads. It was wild driving through asheville and raleigh, but I appreciated the organic nature of it.

    • @LivinginRaleighTV

      Yes the roads are very frustrating especially for people that grew up on a grid system!

    Great job, Chris. Very informative and fun to watch. I may be moving back to the States after 23 years in Hong Kong. Originally, the plan was to go back to my home state of Washington. But housing costs there have gone absolutely crazy. I've got some good friends in NC, plus the draw to a place like Washington and even Hong Kong where there are mountains makes NC one of my top choices. Maybe see you about two years from now!

      What exactly is a liberal state? NY is considered liberal, yet that's just NYC. NY is a huge state that is mostly fairly conservative. Many people from NY wish that NYC was separate from the rest of this beautiful state.

    If you frown upon a person who speaks about their achievements, then you're not polite! I've lived here for many of years and didn't see a genuine person (maybe a few) who was really polite. It was more of a narcissistic type politeness which is very dangerous. If you are from up North of different ethnicity, I wouldn't recommend you move down here because it will be hard for you to find jobs, the housing market has gone up but jobs are still paying low, you have to pay taxes on everything and the taxes is 7.5%! Now, someone from California may come here and be able to make it because they can sell their homes in California for half a million dollars! However, if they come over here just with their cars and their dog just to work at Apple, beware you will see the hit financially and I think you can read between the lines! Also, that's the same for northerners such as New Yorkers, etc. North Carolina is just a place to visit if you're not from here, but to live here is another story

    • @cyl742
      @cyl742 Před 3 lety +4

      Sounds like you ran into some rude people. Everywhere has them, but I have only rarely run into one. My son's first grade teacher was from New Jersey. She said after living here for a few years, she went home for a holiday and realized how rude the people were in public like in malls. So far as frowning on someone speaking about their achievements, there is a difference in saying what you do/did vs bragging about your wealth or job. Bragging has an arrogant tone.

    • @JoiCarlaBodyBar
      @JoiCarlaBodyBar Před 3 lety

      @@cyl742 no, the people in North Carolina are just very sensitive! They could probably just was given really a compliment on how expensive it was up north and move down here and got a better price! Instead of jumping the gun it's assuming someone it's been arrogant, try to take a consideration that maybe they're coming from another state it will maybe come in our rude to you maybe not mean they're really being rude! Maybe pull them to the side and and speak to them about it so both of you all can come to an understanding! You can nicely tell them you know here in North Carolina something shouldn't be said

    We are considering the move from out west next year (don’t worry, not from California). We’re planning a 3 day visit later this year to the Charlotte and Raleigh areas. Any recommendations to what to do to get a real sense for the areas besides the downtowns? We’ll be renting a car so we’re willing explore different neighborhoods or suburbs.

    • @LivinginRaleighTV
      @LivinginRaleighTV  Před 2 lety +1

      The best way to get a feel is to put in all the downtowns and drive between them and see everything in between. Also look up homes that are selling in your budget and put them in your GPS to get a feel for those type of neighborhoods. We did a video called "New to Raleigh" that may be helpful. Here is the link: czcams.com/video/fAS-16ZgyGI/video.html . It's geared towards people on exploratory trips or new to the area.

    • @LivinginRaleighTV
      @LivinginRaleighTV  Před 3 lety

      Greensboro is pretty close to Durham which has the Durham Bulls. Also close to college several college teams. It's mostly the coastal areas that flood, but there are flood zones in other areas of the state.
