- After another year of Spain's Benidorm Fest, the mediterranian country has decided and it'll be Nebulossa who'll fly to Malmö in May with the song "Zorra" to represent the nation at Eurovision 2024.
The voting format also remained the same with the jury vote being worth 50%, whereas the remaining 50% were divided in two between the demoscopic jury and the televote. Once all votes were in, it was clear that Nebulossa had won.
Spain has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 62 times since their debut in 1961. They have won twice: in 1968 (La, La, La...) and the following year, 1969 (Vivo Cantando).

A mature woman singing this song is a fantasy. She doesn't sings so well, she's not a profesional at all, she's an unknown, but that's not important in this case, the portant is the message, pay attention to the lyrics. And the 80's vibes are the best. I love it.
Love the retro vibe, but as it is sent to Eurovision, the message will not get to a Lithuanian granny. Most people don´t speak Spanish, so they will rate it based on the melody, staging and singer.

Lo interesante sería que cada país cantara en su propio idioma en Eurovisión, tal como se hacía en sus comienzos. Eso ya se ha perdido, y es una lastima porque lo bonito es escuchar cada idioma.
Es muy fácil acceder a la traducción de las canciones. No hace falta que todo el mundo aprenda los distintos idiomas que existen.

Some people are a bit confused about why the song from Nebulossa is such a fever in Spain. Let me give you context:
The word "Zorra" literally means female fox but its also a terrible insult to say to a woman, worse than b*tch. María Bass after her 56 years of living has been told this word countless times, for looking good, for having fun, for being honest, for being succesful, etc and now reclames the word to create a feminist anthem with it.

Nebulossa was formed in 2018 when the romantic couple decided to form a musical group. The name of the group alludes to nebulae because on a trip to Port Ainé they went to an astronomical observatory where they were constantly mentioned. The use of the double that is a nod to the Valencian language, although the word is written with only one in that language.
Bas, 56, and Mark Dasousa, 49, are married, they have two children, one 23 years old and the other 11, and a dog. They generate income through a hair salon. But also, for years, they have had a great passion for music, they don't have a record label or set designers, they do what they can with what they have.
They showed up at the Benidorm Fest with the intention of being able to reach the final and for people to know them and know about them, they never thought about being able to get here and go to Eurovision.
They bring a song that has clear intentions, it has a very direct, empowering and danceable message, they have developed the feminist message that Zorra brings. A hymn to empowerment, which refers to feminine vindication and the resignification of a word that is usually used with pejorative overtones.
Please, you have to translate the lyrics. It is a great message. 😊😊
Well, I can't deny I love Zorra and this will be a summer hit in Europe and Latin America. The message of empowerment and freedom is what makes this song so iconic and anthemic. We know Maria's range is not that powerful, she was correct, but that can be fixed adding a coulpe of backing vocalists in certain moments of the song (when needed) and that could uplift the energy of the performance. For the rest I have no complains. The dancers super on point. The styling is fantastic. Musically... This is my jam.
Zorra is the feminine form of fox. However, in Spanish “zorra” can also mean bitch or whore in the bad sense. Many people have been told this word on countless occasions for being free and not accepting the established rules and now they are recovering the word to create an anthem of empowerment, a feminist anthem, being a painful topic, they have made an intelligent and humorous interpretation for all those who have suffered. A song that is already going viral throughout the Spanish-speaking world
As a Spaniard, I am very happy that Nebulossa represents us at Eurovision 2024.
Nobody gave a single euro for them, with their low budget and the criticism they have received for their vocal quality and against all those walls, Nebulossa came out on top...
And because ? Because ? If there were singers with better vocal quality...
Yes there were... And my respects to all the participants at the Benidorm Fest; But for a song to be good, you don't have to have a great voice... How many world-renowned and well-known artists are there who don't have a great voice!?? Admitted by themselves.
And "ZORRA" is an anthem against the sexism, of a percentage of men in society, who try to disqualify women by calling them bitches and also for that "sector" of women who also try to belittle your life by calling you a bitch. !! Simply out of pure envy.
That's the bitch message and it's very big!!
But the song also has spark and is danceable, where it has been seen that the public sings with the artist and sings backing vocals, without being world-famous and highly consecrated!?

This song is like a elegant little satire. It tries to eliminate the negative connotation of the word Zorra (fox as a whore when referring to women) and transform it into a positive element of empowerment.
She is a hair dresser. She and her husband at the keyboard have a hairsaloon. She was not famous some months ago. We love her and the song because of the message.

No obstante, tengo que decir que Blanca Paloma hizo una obra de arte, cantar y bailar flamenco es el arte más antiguo y depurado que existe en la música folclórica a nivel mundial, pero desgraciadamente ese arte tan puro y refinado es difícil de apreciar en muchas partes de Europa. Es un hecho.Sin embargo en Japón están hipnotizados con el arte español, sobre todo con el flamenco (cante, baile, palmas, guitarra).

Si el español es el idioma materno más hablado en el mundo occidental (500millones), y además es uno de los más bellos del mundo debido a su sonoridad (musicalidad), por qué carajo no lo aprende el resto del mundo? pues animo a que todos estudien español.

Hopefully yes. Unfortunately it doesn't seem likely until all the songs come out and we can listen to all of the entries, so sf1, sf2 and big 5+host. Maybe before as well, but I can't promise anything at this point. I'll have to do UMK by myself this year, but she has heard the songs and thinks last year was a lot stronger, since she is still listening to all of them 😁
Yeah I was expecting a massive upgrade from Finland after not only losing to Sweden but also having the potential to win on Swedish soil this year. This year was a huge let down.
Look, we get that she is an unknown artist and not a Powerhouse voice (like France), but think that there will be an “improvement” by the time she gets to Malmo. (TVE will make sure she gets a vocal coach for sure). Said that, the song is a banger; the staging and dancers are on point. And the Eurofans (specially the LGBT+ community) will embrace this song because of the message. I expect a Keiino type of result for Nebulossa. 🤞
This is a hymn! In the line of Gloria Gaynor’s
“ I will survive” , Maria Bass and her husband Mark - Nebulossa- vindicate women, middle aged people, also the LGTB community.. and as her husband Mark pointed out, also men who don’t conform to what the “ norm” expects of them .
Madonna, Minogue, Sam Elliott also come to mind but with a playful Spanish twist.

Maria is 55 y. o. now, a Mother, a Queen , a total Diva. She has angel.. she has “it”.
And the song is not only autobiographical, but aims at representing all people who’ve had to put up with a lot of BS in their lives and survived to be true to themselves and be happy 💪
And the beauty of it is that until only a few weeks ago Nebulossa was a perfectly unknown band in the rest of Spain , no big record labels behind them , just a married couple who did and designed everything themselves.

The song is a set, of which the main thing is the lyrics. The word "Zorra" literally means female fox. It is used to insult women, (b**ch) like many other feminine version of animals, that in masculine terms mean something epic for men (fox to speak about men, means "smart"). It alludes to what a woman who lives freely, who arrives drunk, who does what she wants, looks like. It's a feminist anthem.

The song is about doing what you want without caring what people say. Absolutely agree. That is what makes Eurovision so interesting. But predicting how a song will do, is just part of it. As well as praising where it is deserved and criticising what is negative. But mostly just saying what you think. Of course there are people who praise everything all the time and have nothing bad to say about anything, but that is meaningless to me.
You nailed it. Obviously, haters will hate, fans will love, this happens absolutely everywhere, all the time. I don't know why with Eurovision things get that bit more emotional, more irrational, more heated... I used cringe at all those fights the month before the final, and a couple of weeks after, but now Eurodrama has become such an integral part of the event that I try to have as much fun with it as I can.@@EpixEurovisionGuy

The same applies to everyone watching Eurovision who doesn´t speak Spanish. That is something you have to consider. An average viewer in Serbia or Iceland is not going to know what she is singing about.

@@josealbertocastillogomez883 of course, but generally speaking, regular viewers who only tune in for the ESC final, will not Google about the lyrics and deeper meanings. Even then, the melody, performance and overall impression tend to matter more than lyrics. Especially if it is not in English. But if the Spanish delegation can make it go viral like Netta's "Toy" the chances can grow.
I am a Spanish and heterosexual man, but from now on I say that I am a postcard "zorra" (slut), in support of the song and vindication of its message, which is so necessary for Europe and, above all, for the rest of the world where women continue to be so discriminated against and often humiliated with words like that. Before "zorra" was a word of chains (submission) and now it is a word with musical wings, liberating, thanks to Nebulosa. I don't know if he will win Eurovision, but he has already won the world. 🙂
I don't think Nebulossa pronouns are "he/him", I'd go for "they/them", but, hey, that is just my opinion as an Spanish and temporarily asexual man. I think "Zorra" is a fun song with a message to send, I hope they manage to keep the fun vibe and perform the best they can on May 9th and 11th.

Honestly, I really, really hope they manage to give a fun, striking performance we (Spaniards) can be proud of (as we were with Miki, Chanel and Blanca Paloma) and hope juries (not likely) and televoters are impressed. In Eurovision you can never be 100% sure of anything.@@franjavi3687

The guy is expressing his take on the song, he may be right, he may be wrong, but there is no need to be so vindictive. Neither you, nor he, nor I know for sure how this song will do in the Grand Final, we may make educated guesses, but that's that, just guesses. Maybe after the semifinals we will have more information. In the BenidormFest Final I wanted StPedro to win, I was surprised Nebulossa won, but she won fairly. I loved her performance, endured her limited but alluring vocals, and I hope RTVE does its best to fix the weak points and enhance the strong ones.
If there is something certain with Eurovision, it is that you never know for sure, anything may happen.
I didn't like eaea either, and we Spaniards are a bit passionate about what we love. I'm guessing the "I was happy when she got 3 points" may sound a bit cruel though LOL but I guess if you got hate for saying you didn't like Blanca P., it's ok. BTW, zorra all the way!!! It's a great song, but I think you either love the performance or you don't!
The main thing to remember is that I (and other ESC reactors/youtubers as well I hope) might hate or dislike a SONG, but that doesn´t apply to the singer. Nothing at all against Blanca Paloma, but I truely hate "Eaea". I absolutely hated Samanta Tina`s songs in ESC, but she is a wonderful woman. And in Eesti Laul, after the semi-final, where I was in the jury, I talked to Ingmar and wished him the best, but told him to come back with a better song. It is just about the song. Not the country. Not the people. Not the singer. Just the song :) And I am never gonna hide my opinion and what I think. Otherwise this channel wouldn´t make any sense to me :D
