In this episode, i give a completely serious and not at all silly review of the Redcat Shredder and why it might be worth considering over a Kraton 8S or an XMAXX.

Bro well made review, one of the funniest redcat reviews on youtube, very informative, Thanks
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoy my special brand of humor. Haha.
Watching your videos has made me want one. I am shopping now. Thanks for all your efforts on this series of videos
Did you see it backflip the pool?!
My local hobby shop had a used Shredder for less than half retail minus shell and batteries. I snatched it up instantly and couldn’t be happier. Cheap batteries and charger and I hope easy to work on. I mean look at all that space in the components bay. Looking forward to shredding my 5 acres with this budget beast with my 8 and 10 year old kids. They’ll remember this for years while they tinker with their 1/18 Tetons. Nice video. Glad I stumbled on your channel. 🙏🙏
Hey! Thanks for stopping by! What body are you going to put on it??
Great review man! These are sold as a BSD503T in New Zealand and there are not really any good reviews on them. But then I find out that it's the same as the Redcat Shredder (minus the wing) and your review has convinced me to buy one. Sweet!!!
Congrats dude! You won’t regret it.
You have a great channel I can NOT believe that you don't have more subs. Don't get discouraged...content is King...and your content is great. Build it and they will come!
Thank you! Yeah, It's an endurance, not a sprint....
He doesn't have subscribers because he always plays music while running his RC's.
I've had one for 2 year's now, only mods are larger wheels and tires. Will be adding a lighting package to it. Mainly run it on the street and will achieve about 40mph on fresh lipos. With it's long body and low center of gravity compared to larger more expensive RC vehicles with higher center of gravity, this does handle better. As a matter of fact I will be running it this weekend, kids on the street like watching and trying to get them and their parents interested in the hobby. Been in this hobby since the early 80s with Tamiya and 10/12 scale indoor carpet tracks, still have these car's and run them occasionally, parts are now hard to find for them. But yeah, great RC for the price!
Trying to get kid's interested in things other than video games! Be outdoors, tinker, be curious how it works, build, upgrade. Good stuff!
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Mate I don't comment on any of these reviews , but yours is great, loved it, very well done my man!!
Wow! Thanks James! That’s really cool of you. I’m glad you liked it.
just ordered mine! can't wait to check it out.
Nice! Congrats.
Good review and run 👍👍👍👍I’m rebuilding mine with FPV. It’s lowered with smaller rims and shock, and all satellite gears shimmed in all diffs. Changed the ESC to a mamba X.I also have a Rampage body installed. It’s built for pavement and low grass drifting mostly
Nice! Do you have the Instagram?!?!
10th Scale Garage no just CZcams
I have a shredder and I love it I've put this thing through hell and some and it keeps kicking. Every time I take it out I draw attention. It very fun to drive and can be very nimble at times definitely driving through pine needles and wood chips the name is perfect for what it's capable of doing.
I totally agree. Redcat nailed it with this one.
I’m 3 years in on my Shredder and all is well. I got rid of all 13 of my Rc’s to pay some bills and the Shredder was the only one to make the cut. It beat out the Super Baja Rey, Xmaxx, DBXL and many other big hitters. Not that it’s better than those but it’s the best all around and does everything well. I bashed it out of the box including ramp launched and nothing broke. I have had in on 6s for 2 1/2 of the 3 years and it’s been going 64mph reliably this whole time.
Things I broke:
Front hub carrier (40mph into the side of a porta potty)
Hex pins (have the center diff locked with construction adhesive and took it on dirt)
One hub bearing failed yesterday after 3 years so I just replaced them all.
Wheels blew off the rims after the speed upgrade so those were replaced.
As you can see all the issues were my fault from abuse or speed.
The 64mph speed setup:
Arrma Fazon shocks
Arrma BLX 185 ESC
Stock motor
Stock servo
center diff locked with PL
Metal Spur gear
19 tooth pinion
SRC belted wheels
2 3s 50c Lipos
Spektrum Dx3 radi and receiver
Dang. That’s awesome. People ask me from time to time, “if you could only keep one, what would you keep?” I don’t even have to think about it. Shredder. It’s not my favorite basher, but just like you said, for all around fun- it’s the best.
No doubt a great rc and cheap for its size and pretty dang durable 😎👊🏻
Thank you for shout out👍
No problem! Happy to help.
Love the video. Definitely want one. Will be getting one eventually.
Sweet!
nice vid dude, now im really really thinking on getting one again!
Thanks bro! You should. I love mine.
Mine should be here in a few days. It's pretty cool to see all the positive stuff people are saying about it. Just got back in the hobby after 30 years. My 9yo boy loves it. Got a Mugen MBX8 and RC8 b3.1 for us to race but the Shredder will probably bring more joy at the slate parks and bmx tracks because I won't be so worried about tearing it up. Also can actually upgrade from Busch light to yuengling with the money I saved not getting an Xmaxx.
Hahahahaha. Well said! Yeah, the shredder is a beast! I have a video where I beat the snot out of it and it handles it like a champ.
I think you should do the “can I jump it over myself” thing in every review 🤣
Haha. Eventually that will end in disaster.
Awesome video! You are the reason I bought one!
Nice! Congrats!
Would you recommend these Hatchet tires or the Six Pack MT’s?? it’d be driven over grass and asphalt, sometimes dirt. Thanks.
Subbed. Keep up the good work I like the videos 💯
Hey! Thanks a lot brother! I like the truck in your profile picture!
This is definitely going to be my next RC
An excellent choice.
I was thinking the same thing...wondering about the diffs though
Great video of that RC looks awesome
Thanks Duke! You’re the man.
Dope video my man!!!
Thanks bro! It was fun to make!
Just bought one on Amazon and can't wait for it to get here
NICE! Congrats. Still one of my favorites.
Do you know if it’s brushless
The fasting trucker it’s absolutely brushless.
Thanks for the best review on the internet.
Haha. I live to serve. Thanks for watching
Just got one for my son's birthday yesterday he loves it bashing the hell out of it today hitting ramps at the skate park
Nice! World’s coolest dad!
Great video bro A+ 😎🤜🏻🤛🏻
Thanks, Joe!!!! We gotta get Jeff C to buy one!
I subbed! Great content bruh
Full Throttle RC thanks dude!
Awesome video Brother. That Shredder is a Beast!!!
I’ll trade ya the 5B for it!!
Its not that much of a beast 🤣🤣
hello thank you for your sharing video this car seems really nice to drive and has a very interesting price/quality ratio and solid when you see the bash that your compatriot OMGC does. but if i understood correctly you indicated that it was fragile at the level of its central differential and servo? and that you had changed them. since your video, is this machine still available and has it evolved ?. thanks in advance for your answer. i like your direct and pragmatic tone kind regards Pascal (from France)
Excellent review
Hey thanks.
Cool review! I'm probably going to pick up one of these. My only concern is parts availability.
I haven’t needed many parts for the ol shredder, but everything I’ve needed has been available through redcat’s website
What charger do you recommend for the batteries that you use in the video?
Also, it appears the rc uses stock banana connectors for the battery. Would the batteries in the video need an adaper to work with the shredder? If so could you recommend what adaper to use?
It comes with deans. I use a Venom Pro Duo charger, but any 5amp charger will do.
Just got mine in but your video absolutely helped make my descision , are those hatchets 3.8? Pretty new to the hobby and Im not sure of the sizing
Awesome! Congrats They are indeed.
Every single time I took mine over a jump I snapped an Aarm I had zero luck with the truck if I didn't jump it it was fun lol good review glad you're having better luck with it 👍
Bummer! I haven’t had that problem but I wish RPM would make upgrades for it. I know the lack of support can scare off some people. Do you still have yours?
@@10thScaleGarage no after replacing the arms like 3xs and waiting for parts I finally fixed then traded it off...I still have some different spares for it though lol
@@10thScaleGarage and yes rpm needs to make arms and knuckles for it no doubt
I have about 1100 in my xmaxx all stock with batteries that charge in around
40 minutes and last longer than I care to drive it usually. With the 56 tooth spur it comes with it goes fast enough on any surface to the point of being uncontrollable and its awesome. The more one cost the more excitement it usually brings in my experience.
Love the xmaxx. My buddy has one. Nothing wrong with that at all!
Thank for showing everyone what RedCat Is all about.
I live to serve.
Great review . I like your reviews because you’re not in someone’s pocket. You seem to represent the common man :-)
Dang. Thanks! I appreciate that.
I have to agree with you
hey, buddy thanks for the video I just won a bid on eBay for 195$ a shredder everything is in good condition but it doesn't come with a battery or charger I know the stock is 2 2s lipos what can I buy for a little more power 2 3s lipos? I am so pumped to get this thing I wanted something with size either a 1:8 scale or a 1:6 scale I almost bought a vrx cobra 2021 model 1:8 its a bad machine too super fast but I went with the shredder any suggestions you have id love to hear them mine will have the stock tires not the big ones on yours so I'm hoping the differential will be ok.
Those tires look dope. I get my shreddeder at some point this week and I'm already looking for tire upgrades.
Nice! Congrats! Yeah I’m super happy with those wheels/ tires.
@@10thScaleGarage what kind of wheels are tires ? Thanks
You didn't waste money... I bought a tr-mt8e a few years ago and now I can't buy replacement parts. Good thing it's rather durable. Redcat is a great bang for your buck brand and I loved your video... Kept it down to earth
Team magic e6 is same truck look for parts for that
@@moistmonk2371 thanks
@10th Scale Garage what replacement parts should we have on hand? Thanks for the video.
Steering servo.
Just picked one up for 150 today used, but in great condition. Great review and beautiful yard and house. Which lipo charger do you have.
I have lots of chargers, but the one I was referring to here was a hexfly. Sadly they don’t make it anymore.
I like the price points of red cat.
Thanks for the video.
Every video with Lily in it = automatic like
Haha. She appreciates the love.
I've been looking for a large scale RC, buy the near 1k price tag is pretty hard to swallow. This might be a good alternative. I have been pretty hesitant to buy Redcat because I had one that broke all the time (Volcano EPX I think?). Great video, thanks!
I’ve had a couple Redcats that were nothing but headaches, too. This one has been really solid for the few years I’ve owned it. Definitely worth thinking about! Thanks for watching!
@10thscale I totally agree. I've ran mone for a couple years now and just a loose screw on the steering rack. My esc would go into overheat protection way too often. Seems to not be uncommon, but happens to folks enough to warrant consideration. I replaced mine with a Hobbywing BL150 and run it on 6s now, and still on the plastic spur!
@@ccflgearhead I've heard the ESC on the X-Maxx catches fire! I'd rather the ESC shut down than catch fire 🤣
@@10thScaleGarage I've heard these are pretty good , but you have to shim the diffs right outta the box. Have you found that to be true?
What kind and size tires are on the RedCat shredder I just got 1 I want more of a monster truck look
Duratrax Hatchet MTs.
Great review.
Thanks’
Hey I just got mine today, were your shocks super soft out of the box? I'm totally new at this, they don't even bounce back all the way would that mean I need to put a heavier oil in there?
It sounds like they might not be full. Maybe not a heavier oil... you might just need to top them off.
@@10thScaleGarage thanks for the reply
just bought one..very nice
good review. I think Redcat for a lot of their rides rebrand or take off parts from other companies. I actually like that. Does anybody know if this shares parts with another vehicle out there in case we can't find the actual Redcat Shredder part? This looks like a fun rig.
To be fair, there are connector adapters for the traxxas. batteries, and, with proper measurement, cheaper aftermarket batteries with deans connector, etc... which could also be used. But the value Redcat offers still seems pretty insane. Couldn't compete in any kind of class with this truck, but for tearing around the yard or a public park, the bang-for-buck seems unmatched. I was going to get a 1/16 scale e-revo vxl, but this seems like a better buy, even at the current $399 price tag.
Which connectors do the redcat batteries use?
Exactly. The ol shredder uses Deans.
Great video
My wife and I was watching and we love the landscape was curious what state you are in ? my wife is from Connecticut and she says it looks like Connecticut
I have the landslide XTE, it's basically just the 1/8 scale version of the shredder, and I absolutely love it. Redcat makes pretty good RC vehicle's, but $4$, I'd say they are great! I've seen plenty of people just do 6s ESC's in the shredder, and they are amazing. Only thing to watch for, differentials (with all Redcat's). Make sure they are shimmed tight, use 500k in the center, and 100k in the front & rear, problem solved.
I just filled the center diff of my shredder with waterproof grease. No issues since.
Redcat is my favorite for all the reason’s as you stated.
Does it come with a metal spur gear now? Or still built with plastic?
Plastic. Just like Arrma. Haha.
i wish i can get 1 of those shredder
i never had a good rc
i hope you can show me more about this shredder
Great vid bud 👍👍
Thanks bro!
I just got my redcat shredder can I use zeee 7.4v 2s 6200mAh batteries
Yup. Congrats!
I shredded two centered this can you give me any ideas on what to do next
Fill it to the brim with waterproof grease and avoid landing under throttle. I’m still on diff #2 4 years in.
I have big tires on mine like yours and having problems with the servo, what are you running for servo?

I run the same Servo in my Gen-7, it’s great for the price!
awesome video man. i ordered one but i was wondering what the stock battery connector is. is it deans like you have or is it that weird barrel connection like my redcat gen 7 has? i'd rather not do any soldering on the batt if i dont have to..
It’s Deans!
@@10thScaleGarage thanks for the fast reply man! Keep it up. Only criticism I have is the Busch light! Lol hope to see you grow the channel.
XxTheGameCollectorxX a little dirt never hurt. I like cheap beer and expensive whiskey.
What did you do after all to fix the center diff issue because of the larger tires? Ordered the same wheels. Going to upgrade my steering servo but also want to take care of the center diff before I damage it.
Filled it to the brim with waterproof marine grease.
@@10thScaleGarage has the stock plastic spur gear held up to the bashing for you? Thanks 🤘🏻
@@jjrock5 yup!
I think I remember you mentioning at one point that this is the one you would keep if you could only have one. Is that still true?
Yes, although the Arrma Mojave is a close second...... I’ve only run the Mojave a few times.....
Those points were beautiful last night I went to check out a kraton 8s and the batteries on that thing cost like 200 bucks and the charger is like 150 dollars. And the shredder probably handles pretty much the same as a Traxxas Xmaxx or an Arrma Kraton 8s.
thinking about getting one of this redcat
I highly recommend it.
I use aftermarket batteries and aftermarket charger for my xmaxx 8s, but yes, it's way more expensive. I do have two red cat Kaijus in my bashing stable at $399 each so that one is a great value too. Thanks for the video 👍
Nice! I considered running Traxxas batteries in my M41 and UDR but I just can’t justify it. Nothing against them, but just a little too spicy for only having 2 vehicles that would really benefit from using them.
@@10thScaleGarageGreat video! Considering one of them due to your video. Can you list the modifications parts (I'm new to this)? i bought two a traxxas slash 4x4 vxl (I got the fox body) for my son and i to ride out the pandemic lockdown in NYC. They're really fast, parts are easy to get (great support) and there good for starting out except for the price. The reason i say good for starting out is we repair basically after every outing. I feel it's great cause 500 screws to remove on repairs and such help you learn about R/C's more. We modified the crap outta them, but they break ALOT! So i was going to sell them but really have no need to. Next is the Arrma Senton BLX. It's a much better alternative. At $299 vs $379, and a hell of alot more durable. Biggest knock on the Slash is it's a horror show on turns, probably a great drag or Slagster... I believe the repairs on my traxxas will make my marriage survive the pandemic, lol.... Have fun...
AL Jimenez I just got a cheap 25kg servo from Amazon and some duratrax Hatchet MT wheels and tires. The center diff has super thick marine grease to stiffen it up, and that’s it.
How is this rc compared with TRMT8E 4S?
That’s a great question. I don’t have any experience with the TRMT8-E, but that vehicle is 6S capable and 8th Scale, so definitely smaller, and probably a bit faster than the shredder. I had the TRMT10-E and it was tough as nails. I loved that thing.
Good evening, can you give a link on the tires/wheels, and servo that you upgraded mentioned in this video please? I am doing to purchase this rc, and am very new to the game. I got 2 small rc this year and fell in love with them so I am ready to invest in something bigger. I have been looking at this and the Kraton, but after watching this video I would like to get this one. Thank you for sharing your video.
Here’s the servo. www.banggood.com/custlink/KKDRJWjcG0
Here are the wheels Duratrax Hatchet MT 3.8" Mounted 1/2" Offset Black Tires (2), DTXC3588 www.amazon.com/dp/B00KJB1KSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nowkFbEJJQBRK
@@10thScaleGarage Good evening, thank you for all the information,. Now I believe you had mentioned something about the center dif. Is this something that you replaced or modifying what already came with the rc? Sorry Im totally new to all of this and would like to buy all the parts at once. I totally love those tires they look amazing.
How long do redcat racing batteries last on their cars
Redcat doesn’t make batteries. It all depends on the Mah rating. More Mah= more runtime.
I just bought this tonight seeing 1/6 with all of the specs thinking WHAT A STEAL!!! I’ve been wanting to get a warhorse of an RC because all I drive right now are Redcat rock crawlers. I’m happy with those and I’m sure this one is going to be mean as hell.
I absolutely love mine. It always puts a smile on my face.
Hi there is the shredder the same truck as the mad monster?
Nope. Totally different. I think they MIGHT share a similar ESC/ Motor, but the Mad Monster is way smaller. This is a 1/6 scale. Redcat did make a version of the Mad Monster called the Landslide.
Great review thanks. I think i'm gonna get one and drink a Natural light👍👍
I support that 100%
I did 40 on 4s with a 17t pinion and motor fan on asphalt. It’s got plenty of power for the price and size.
Dang!!
I’m new to the hobby. Started with knock off brands from Amazon and I’m having a ton of fun with it. I can’t decide if I’ll go with the Shredder or Landslide XTE though.
Shredder 100%
Shredder. Much better bang for buck.
This was awesome!
Thanks buddy
What all did you do to the center diff?
Pack it full of waterproof marine grease.
I really cannot find this information at all anywhere; can it handle 6S out of the box? I'm getting one soon, and of course Redcat doesn't list this - wasn't sure if it was a 4S only ESC. Also going to swap everything over to XT60 - Deans, the cheap stuff at least, is hard to grab onto and disconnect lol Amass has the best connectors, but still - XT60 looks cleaner! :D
And one more: any thoughts on a 2000Kv BL motor? I have one, unused at the moment - but is a 3660 size. Wasn't sure if that would introduce any cogging on take-off or impose any struggle gasping for torque.. Looks good though!
It’s an 80 amp ESC. It won’t handle 6S for more than a few seconds/ minutes. The stock motor is capable of 6S on stock gearing.
Cogging is the result of a motor that doesn’t have enough torque. The stock motor and ESC work well together.
@@10thScaleGarage Awesome - heh, yeah know all about torque and cogging issues! Went through that on my Laegendary Nitro 1/8th SCT. Have a big 3665 3500Kv motor now no issues. Just wondering!
Thanks for the reply, enjoying the videos - I'm sure I'll reply with the mods I'm about to do to this completely stock Shredder. Already have a steel spur for it; and a motor on hand.. we'll see!
Wondering what servo you used?

Can I add twin motor on the shredder??
You could, but you’d need to make a custom motor mount for it. If you do it, let me know so I can see it! If you’re good at custom fab, nothing is impossible.
I've been looking at a snap on Xmaxx so I can pay $50 a week for one lol. I like the shredder just not the body. And if you toss about her $400 at a shredder how does it do against a Xmaxx or kraton.
great way to keep the dog fit !
Great video..🤘🤘🤘
Thanks!
oh wow i use goldbats too. what tires are those?

This video made me subscribe
Awesome! Thanks! Welcome to the 10th Scale Squad.
What do you do to the diff?
The original one got stripped out. The new one has ceramic bearings and I packed it full of heavy marine grease.
What scale is the truck
1/6
Thats what i like about it bigger easier to work on.I got svx24 and it has micro fastners..That is the main reason i domt soup it up
I’m scared as hell to buy anything redcat. I bought their fpv drone like 2 years ago and now it’s discontinued and I can’t find replacement parts for it (motors)
Bro. I feel you. I have a couple that are orphans, but in the last couple years, Redcat has upped their game in a huge way. I’m not a dealer. I’m not a salesman, but the shredder is awesome and I don’t think it’s going anywhere for a while. The aftermarket has started to support the shredder and a ton of Redcat vehicles in the past year.
I like my Redcats. Do a review on the Kaiju next if you can spare $499
I don’t have the Kaiju, but If I did, it would probably be something like, “it’s similar to other 1/8 scale badgers, but at a much cheaper price. Parts and aftermarket upgrades are harder to find.”
I've always thought they look cool but I layer down the big brick on a kraton 8s
The Kraton is SWEET!
