It's just weird for Leia to have a relationship with Kenobi that's as strong, if not stronger, than Luke's and yet she's almost indifferent to him in A New Hope.

In a New Hope when Vader says: ‘I feel a presence I haven’t felt since….’ and then wanders off to find where the ‘presence’ is coming from.
The whole point of that powerful moment is that he’s referring to his & Kenobi’s duel on Mustafar which resulted in him being mortally wounded. He’s not referring to any of this utter garbage that’s been shoehorned in.
Disney’s repeated tampering seems hellbent on sucking the pathos from this epic saga & frankly, it’s all bollocks!

    • @jlondono7
      @jlondono7 Před 2 lety +11

I was arguing this with a friend of mine, and he had a pretty good argument based on semantics. He said “technically Vader trailing off like that leaves it open-ended. He never concretely referred to Mustafar as their last encounter” which technically is true, but stupid like you said. You and I along with everyone else always assumed that Vader was referring to the duel on Mustafar, because it was obvious and carries much more emotional weight. Vader’s dialogue in A New Hope “I’ve been waiting for you Obi-Wan, we meet again at last.” is also open-ended, but again I think Vader is clearly referring to Mustafar. Why would he then say “The circle is now complete; when I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master.” That sounds like something he would say when meeting Obi-Wan again for the first time since Mustafar in the new Kenobi series, not in A New Hope. That’s what throws everything off for me

    • @riggers1977
      @riggers1977 Před 2 lety +2

@@jlondono7 absolutely what I thought - so glad I’m not the only one👍
When Vader confronts Obi Wan in A New Hope, the dialogue carries the weight of two old enemies who haven’t seen each other for a considerable amount of time & have an old bitter score to settle. The back & forth describes their previous fight on Mustafar perfectly since Anakin was humiliated for his arrogance & left dying limbless & mutilated. Vader in the years since has matured & tho he is still angry, he has learned to master & control his emotions & has waited patiently for his time to come. Numerous times during Anakin’s training Obi pulls him up about his arrogance & ‘always rushing in’ when he should be patient. So this is what makes his statement ‘when I left you I was but the learner, now I’m the master’ all the more fitting for their duel in RotS & not this nonsensical Disney garbage.

Dang. I sure am glad Disney separated itself from the EU. The mere thought that Obi-wan spared Reva at the end goes completely against who he is, which is crazy to think this show is even related to what came before it: Rebels. In that, he was more than prepared to kill Maul when the guy even hinted that Obi-wan was on Tatooine protecting 'someone'.

The big problem with, "Disney Star Wars", fans is a lack of emotional maturity. Tom Scott accidentally phrased it brilliantly in a recent video. He was talking about re-watching a childhood show and said the following: "No one in the entire episode, human or alien, acts in any rational way. It's all just an excuse for cool action scenes and explosions. And as a kid I didn't notice any of the plot holes, because there were cool action scenes and explosions."
The modern audience is emotionally stunted. They have no emotional maturity. They're children. They only care about the emotionally stimulating sugar coating of things. Like a child, they eat the easy toppings off the pizza and refuse to eat the crust. They peel the icing off the cake and don't care about the gist of it. They just want the flash and nostalgia.

She teaches him how to live and love life again inspite of his demons and he teachers her how to be stronger and overcome her insecurities because she's 9 and she's not a fully formed adult able to handles anything.

If every Disney Star Wars movie had that kind of respect for the universe, they might be somewhere today. I look at Rogue One like I do the Mandalorian. Good. Maybe flawed. But it's hard to complain about either when you get Solo and the sequel trilogy just being complete unimaginative and unmitigated crap. I don't really have the motivation to watch Boba Fett or Kenobi after they got rid of Cara Dune - the one actually strong female character and actress that they have been trying to create in every goddamn movie / show since they got the license.

Ahh yes, but when you're Mauler and you pause every show or movie every 6 seconds to critique every little detail then you'll find a problem with everything. It's a stupid way to approach things. He's always coming up with stuff like "this one thing the guy said in episode 12 of season 8 makes no sense because of something he saw in episode 2 of season 1. It's horrible writing and nobody should like it. If you do like it just give me 9 hours and I'll explain why you're stupid and wrong."

What a trainwreck of a series . The last remnants of the Star Wars that George Lucas built have deconstructed into oblivion by Disney Lucasfilm.
Obi Wan ignored the promise he made to Yoda at the end of Revenge of the Sith to watch over and protect
Luke and the only reason he didn't fail completely as Gary correctly said was not because of something heroic he did but because of the fact Reva did not kill Luke . Reva was such a poorly written character and the way she turned good was so contrived and badly written. Also Leia should never have been in this series or at least not in it for more than 1 episode.
Meanwhile the Vader we got was a pale imitation of the character we saw in the original trilogy . The versimilitude of Vaders' power that he showed at the the Rogue One and the original trilogy has been vastly diminished by the Kenobi show and the legacy of the character diminished by the fact he lost to Obi twice. That said Vader and Kenobi should have never duelled each other in this series the first place.
Like Drinker I do feel a bit sorry for Hayden Christensen who deserved much better material to fully redeem his portrayal of the character.
Also Lucasfilm must be even dumber than I thought if they expect us to believe that an Imperial Star Destroyer cannot blow up a civilian transport.
Also the VFX and camera work and editing was attrocious and the music was the worst I've in Star Wars film or TV media by a huge margin .
I haven't seen something as badly shot or as dark in terms of lighting as the Kenobi show since Aliens vs Predator Requiem aka Alien vs Predator 2. To add insult to injury I also watched Jurassic World Dominion recently too and I thought that was awful too . I might try Stranger Things for the first time to give myself some enjoyment instead.

I heard somewhere (I think maybe from one of the people in this podcast, idk, could be wrong) that someone who plays a major role in creating The Boys Season 3 explicitly said that they were making a "commentary" on *_"tOxIc MaScUlInItY"_* lol...
I just wanted to say, *_It really shows, to a grotesquely obvious degree._*
And more so than anywhere else in the show, specifically when it comes to Huey and Starlight's relationship.
It's sooooo painfully obvious that the writers are pounding the Huey character into submission, with Starlight's sTuNnInG, sTrOnK wAmEn bRaVeNeSs, it's about as close to watching Huey get pegged, without actually watching Huey literally get pegged.
You can tell the writers have a real vicious hard-on for "defying gender stereotypes" lol.
Men want women, women want men...
I hate this implicit, unspoken cultural notion in Hollywoke, that there's some uber transcendent, galaxy brain IQ profundity in simply defying any and all possible traditional gender roles, in every way imaginable, with a frothing at the mouth desperation to catch them all, and defy as many as humanly possible...
    *_Why though?_*
Stereotypes are true. I know that might trigger people who aren't even woke themselves, but they're true, about ALL people btw, they just don't describe the majority, and you shouldn't judge individuals based on stereotypes, sure...
But they're still true. ALL of them. It's nothing more than humans recognizing patterns, across our modern-day, huge populations. Patterns that aren't obligated to make the people they describe feel peak emotional validation are inevitably going to catch on. I think everybody really needs to just get over it.
I understand they _say_ that it's to undo some "historical oppression" or whatever but...
Do most women not want an assertive, confident man? Do most men not want a kind woman, who isn't desperately, constantly trying to emasculate you in some sly, subtle, underhanded way to "smash the patriarchy" or whatever? (not the same as women testing men, in the normal way they do and have psychologically evolved to do over tens of thousands of years btw)
The most baffling part of it all, *_is the utter pointlessness of it._* It does nothing to achieve any of the ends they think it does, and moreover, the one thing it does do consistently creates unnecessary issues in relationships. IRL, and in this goofy show lol.
This culture desperately wants women to manhandle the proverbial pants in the relationship, and strut around with all the bluster of...
What they likely view as being the cocksure, confidence, and assertiveness of "ToXiC mAsCuLiNiTy" lmao.
Our Clown World is one where *_vengeance, takes the most retarded, goofy-ass forms, that nobody thought possible until this woke nonsense took off about 10 years ago._*
One word that perfectly describes Wokeness in all its various forms, dressing itself up as "jUsTiCe" when it's SOOOOO goddamn obvious that it's just vengeance, with egregious levels of qUiRkY sNaRk, as if they're just so slick and slyly getting away with it, like smooth criminals in the night, while we're standing right next to them shining a 10 million candlepower spotlight right in their face like *_"Bruh, I see E X A C T L Y what you're doing"_* lmao...

and I agree, it is crazy society is breaking down rules because of the outliers, decoupling sex and gender despite an overwhelming statistical correlation. Nobody is perfect, there's just some people born with genetic stuff wrong, genetic errors are the core of diversity and are essential for the survival of the species. Pretending that stuff isn't wrong in the individual through a culture of denial is not progress, it's wilful blindness.
