  • Hi Everyone and welcome back to the Pottery Corner. In this video we are unloading another glaze kiln firing with exceptional pieces from my talented students as ever. Some cracking glaze combinations from Amaco and Mayco including Mayco Oxblood and Mayco Jungle Gems.
    I am modelling the T Shirt for the Only Hope Project (ScienceWithSoul). My classic 1985 Mini, called MinMin, is a film star having appeared in the Only Hope Film due to be released very soon and my lovely husband, Steve, was the stunt driver! Have a look at the Instagram Page for the Only Hope Project for more details. This is a fantastic project which could help people with cancer as there are now ways of mapping individual tumours to see which treatment is the most effective for that individual. This could well be a game changer for cancer care in the future. All extremely exciting stuff and a cause which is close to my heart - having had breast cancer and coming up to my 10th anniversary of my own treatment.
    Hydrange kits are still available in my Etsy shop if you'd like to check out the playlist for making your own Porcelain Hydrangea Heads.
    Thanks as ever for joining me today. Much love Sarah xx

    Morning Sarah, and lovely to see you again. A great start to the day to watch your YT.
    Have to say I adore the test piece with texture using the Mayco Oxblood, (although don't like the name of the glaze! Lol! Really suits that texture too. I've not got that Glaze yet, but I am now tempted!
    Have to admit currently I'm still obsessed with every stage of the process but I also struggle choosing which glaze to finalise on. I now find I get inspired with a glaze effect that secondary inspires me on which piece I want to use it on. So I now work backwards and when I come to glazing I don't have to make a choice, as it's allready decided lol. May sound backwards but I'm finding it more enjoyable that way, and getting some better results.
    Parrot Tulip glaze looks stunning and so close to the effect you were aiming for. Shame about the drippage but nothing a bit of dremmeling shouldn't fix 😊
    Oh dear, gutted for all the drippage that followed in pieces.... what an absolute nightmare of a dremel project you have. Ouch 😮 It happens, but sadly that's a lot on one kiln opening. I feel you pain 😢
    Lovely kiln opening to watch, always a pleasure. Georgous Coast line too! Glorious part of the world.
    Thanks for the great content as always 👏👏👏

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  Před rokem +1

      Thanks so much Jeanette for your lovely words. Oxblood is not one I have used often and I seem to get varying results. It only changes to the red/brown colour in the actual texture which is interesting. I've been using vinyl placemats as texture on my wheel thrown plates. Another technique that is probably going to find it's way into a video! The bowl is fine - thankfully only a little dremelling needed but the students stuff is still waiting for me to get up the enthusiasm to do it! Some of them are in the studio tomorrow so I may use their session (and therefore their time) to do it. Wish we were back in Dorset - really busy here. Keep smiling my lovely.

    • @FarForestCeramics
      @FarForestCeramics Před rokem +1

      @@thepotterycorner I have some vinyl place mats that I wanted to used on some plates but couldn't think of a dinner safe glaze to work with it. May just give one a try. Love how texture can change how a glaze reacts, its like magic lol.
      Great idea about getting students to dremel their own work. Actually valuable lesson to learn why the qty of glaze you apply and its placement is so critical. I think that's a great idea.
      Dorset looked so glorious, life just seems to be so busy.
      Sending hugs x

    Hello Sarah! I’m loving your hair cut short like that! Great kiln opening! I chuckled at the way you pronounce Gogh, I’ve never heard his name pronounced with an ‘F’ sound at the end. My gosh the bowl is absolutely stunning!!! How incredible. Have you tried putting kiln wash on your cookies? It really helps to not have to grind quite so much. I love the handles on the teacups that are textured! What a great idea. With all of these lovely drips off the pots can you please show us how you remove the cookies abs glazes please?
    How cool your car is being used for something so very important. I love the T-shirt! I used to use a glaze book but I have a large kiln that I usually fit aprox 64 pieces in, and then of course little kiln fillers, so I started numbering my pots and using index cards for each pot. This is probably Lu a silly question but what are the little houses along the beach? Is it just a changing room that you rent for the day? What an amazing idea.

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  Před rokem

      Hi Michele and thanks for watching and commenting. I'm not a fan of kiln wash because it is quite dusty but must admit that this is the worst kiln load ever for glazes dripping. The little houses are dalled beach huts and us Brits use them for days at the beach for changing, cooking, sitting by the sea etc. An absolutely 💯 British pastime 😁
