Hooks me in the back of the head and causes a hell of a backlash lmfao... his face was priceless!!!!

    DC another outstanding video. One thing that I also think is important is reel setup. You were dead on with the thumb control. My guess is you loosen up the spool tension and brakes like I do for this technique.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  Před 6 lety

      Mike Walsh baaahhh! I had that part for the video and deleted the clip while editing...😕 I loosen the spool tension a bit for this, I don't mess with the brakes. In the off chance I need to cast to a spot, I don't want my reel to turn into a tumbleweed. I keep my reels rather loose anyway. Firm believer that the thumb is the best brake you have. Thanks for watching MW!

      DEBO'S Fishing ,
      Ok so you showed me the the motion in the wrist, explained thumb control and it's all fine and dandy, but one thing, every video tutorial misses, is the actual settings on the reel. I'm guessing spool tension loose, and brakes turned all the way up? What if it's a dual brake system?
      Any recommendations? This is one technique that I need to learn, but struggle with over, and over and over.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  Před 6 lety +1

      @@christopherpettersen2359 I don't do anything differently. Sometimes I'll loosen my spool a bit. But I switch between short sidearm casts and pitching when I fish wood. What kind of reel and brakes do you have?

    • @christopherpettersen2359
      @christopherpettersen2359 Před 6 lety +1

      DEBO'S Fishing, well, for this setup, becuase it was done on the fly, with what I had on hand, it's a Kastking Spartacus Plus reel, on a 7' M/H Lew's Speed Stick. I know it's not the ideal setup, but I'm only pitching 3/8 - 1/2oz. Probably not the best reel and rod combo fot the setuo. But as I said before, it's the Wizard not the wand that makes the magic happen.
      I can switch to a 7'-2" Heavy rod I use for frogging if you think that will help.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  Před 6 lety +1

      @@christopherpettersen2359 that combo will work fine. The only things I would change are - 1. Move to a faster reel if you're losing fish or getting them hung up in timber, under docks, etc. 2. Move to the heavy rod if you're around thick wood and vegetation. If you're around sparse cover, that setup will work fine. I believe I keep my Spartacus on max magnetic brakes and 2 internal. Spool I keep so there is a TINY bit of side to side play. You can go tighter with heavier weights.

    Youll know after several hundred cast, when you get the one cast correct. Then youll spend the next 3 hours trying to figure out what you did. When I taught my daughter how to use a bait caster, then to pitching, I tried to explain that its all about feel. When you feel the rod and line load up and a perfect cast goes out about 40 feet and gently lands in the water, thats whatcyour looking for. Its all a fluid motion and yes, youll feel the rod and line load up on the pitch as it goes out. It becomes effortless. Anotherctip i believe that helps, is your grip and to turn your hand palm down and use the side of the rod as its less give. Or easier to load.

Mamy people don't like Quantum reel's. But I find it's a bang for the buck reel. $100.00 reel. You can flip the switch back to regular casting in a snap. Basically 2 reel's in one! Why pay more for less. Nice VIDEO. Shawn

    Love the vid! I found out due to experience that throwing from the wrist can cause pain when throwing some heavier lures, but I don’t know if this also counts for you bass fishers. When it comes to pike however, you might want to change it up a bit. For example letting your rod butt sit against your forearm. This will save you alot of pain if you’re throwing 2 oz + baits
