Through the rolling Scottish countryside and the cobbled Edinburgh streets, thousands of people lined the route of the royal procession, as it carried the Queen's coffin towards its final resting place.
Draped fittingly enough in the Royal Standard of Scotland, it is the first part of what King Charles described as his mother's "last, great journey".
With a single police outrider leading the way, the Royal cortege made its way from Balmoral in the Highlands - on a 175 mile journey past Aberdeen, Dundee and Perth before reaching Edinburgh - where the Queen's coffin will lie at rest in the Palace of Holyroodhouse overnight.

I remember following my father’s and years later, my mothers coffin in the hearse. I couldn’t believe my loved ones were within. I felt the same seeing our beloved Queens coffin. Just five days ago, she was meeting her new PM with that famous, welcoming smile. Now, she’s gone on her final journey to be with her beloved Philip. Unbelievable.

Its comforts and fragrances will come to him and his grave will become spacious as far as his eye can see. A handsome man, with fine clothes and wonderful fragrance, will come and say: Glad tidings of what pleases you, for this was your Day you were promised! He will say: Who are you with such a handsome face? He will say: I am your righteous deeds! He will say: O Lord, begin the Hour that I may return to my family and property!”

They will request it to be opened for him but it will not open.” Then, the Prophet recited the verse, “The gates of heaven will never open for them, nor will they enter Paradise, until the camel goes through the eye of the needle,” (7:40). The Prophet said, “Allah Almighty will say: Write his record in the wicked register in the lowest earth. His spirit will be thrown down,” then the Prophet recited the verse, “It is as though he had fallen from the sky and was snatched by the birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place,” (22:31). The Prophet said, “His spirit will return to his body and two angels will come to sit by him, saying to him: Who is your Lord? He will say: Uh, uh, I do not know! They will say: What is your religion? He will say: Uh, uh, I do not know! They will say: Who is this man sent to you? He will say: Uh, uh, I do not know! A heavenly announcement will be made: He has lied! Spread carpets for him in Hellfire and open a gate for him to Hellfire! Its heat and its flames will approach him, and he will be squeezed in his grave until his ribs press together. An ugly man, with hideous clothing and a foul stench, will approach him and say: Glad tidings of what despairs you, for this is your Day you were promised! He will say: Who are with your evil face? Well, yeah, I think out of the 4 British countries, Scotland was her soft spot. Considering she has more of a heritage with that country than she does with the other 3. Though she would never say it out loud, I think it was pretty clear that was the case considering when she was off duty she was quick to spend her time there.

My part of our family were forced away from Scotland at swordpoint having been captured at the Battle of Dunbar near Edinburgh in support of Charles I. The fact of my ancestor, Robert Edmonston,who grew up on the outskirts of Edinburgh, younger brother of Lord Edmonston,and decendant of Robert the Bruce, St. Margaret of Scotland, a Princess of Wessex shipwrecked with her mother on the Scottish coast and other noteworthy Scots, warms my heart. Robert was marched first to Durham Cathedral then along with others, forcibly shipped to the Maryland Colony. After the Restoration he was gifted several plantations by a representative of King Charles II for his loyal service to King CHarles I. I doubt the land made up for his loss. I have always known and felt I was Scottish and visited there several times.
I THOROUGHLY understand the Queen's love for Scotland, very like the love Queen Victoria had for it as well. It is a sad day mourning her loss, but a thankful day for her steadfastness...she was a queen who lived up to her promise and no one could have asked anything more ....she devoted her life in its entirety to the British people and the WORLD takes its figurative hat off to her Majesty for a life spent fulfilling her promise.

As a 6 year old I was with my school class on the kingsway Dundee as HRH toured Scotland after her coronation, today 69 years later feit deemed her to travel the same road. RIP our much loved Queen.

Everyone is so sad, all the countries that the British pillage for the last 200 years wants to say goodbye to the queen too.
Right on point: this is a time to put politics aside. I can't believe some of the downright mean comments I have read online. Nobody can say the Queen didn't fulfill her promise of dedicating her life to the service of her country and people.

It just feels strange , as a 48 year old Australian so far away from the UK , she was still our Queen and it's been that way my whole life . I wouldn't have thought I'd feel much of anything , especially as living to 96 is what I'd call , a good run and a privilege . But it is still sad and hard to imagine her gone from our lives . It also reminds me of my own ageing and the loss of a generation to the next . Makes me want to do more with the rest of my time .
So many of us are saddened by the death of Her Majesty, whether we were British, Australian, Canadian, from New Zealand, from The Bahamas (can’t think of all the places she ruled over-). She was our Queen and The Queen. She was the grandmother to everyone regardless if you had one or not. I am from Britain and I’ve only ever known Her Majesty as The Queen and she really did have quite a good run. The longest reigning monarch. Our 96 year old Grandmother. I can’t imagine a world without seeing her face on our coins and notes. It just sounds wrong. Impossible to imagine. Slowly everyone’s generations will die out. And whilst Gen Z is still up and running, so am I but I know it won’t last forever… I want to do something with my life instead of slaving away at a desk. Going out with something memorable to leave behind sounds like the way everyone should go out, just like Her Majesty.

Heartbreaking, but seeing her with the saltire comforts me she truly loved Scotland and Scotland loved her. She is a legend and will never be surpassed, the best ruler of Britania ever. Makes me prouder than ever to be British. She spent 70% of her quality time at Balmoral and that speaks volumes and means the world to Scotland and the UK as a whole. Rest now Elizabeth, 70 years of holding a 4 country Nation together is an astonishing feat but I hope you hear this my Queen we were always one nation under your reign and I pray your legacy will keep us so. I can just see Philip impatiently waiting to be reunited with his true love again, farewell my queen.
I wish The Queen could see this moment when all the people mourns and yet shows deep love. She deserves to see all this when she was still alive and in struggle of what's happening with her family. She is the most calmed person I've seen. And I will always love her. ❤️

She had a long life. Poor Diana didn't even see 40 and now has 2 daughter in laws and 5 Grandchildren that will never know her. So sad.

Calling her his darling Mama, not just the Queen etc as would have been protocol years ago. The consensus is he has big changes planned, not just his vision of a more streamlined 'core family' of him & William.

God's timing is perfect and He wanted to take His faithful servant from Balmoral Castle where she was the happiest with her husband and family! She loved the people in Scotland and her passing here was perfect and allowed her neighbors and friends to say a farewell which wouldn't have happened had she passed away at Windsor!

As a Hong Konger (Hong Kong was the last British colony before 97), I sincerely appreciate Her Majesty's reign that made HK a huge success! She was admirable and down to earth! (She once visited a lower class Hong Kong public housing estate apartment during her visit in 1975)

I am living in the Netherlands and I am really really sad for the loss of her Majesty. Your Queen was really a special human being. Despite all the conflicts and sad events she never took a populistic route and has always tried to unite everyone. Whereas rest of the Europe become more and more nationalistic and racist. In my opinion she was the best of what western civilization has ever experienced in the last centuries. My absolute respect to your Queen !
