In The Equalizer movie, Denzel said "Sometimes you can take a wrong turn trying to get to the right place." I think that's what happened with BMarshall. He thought what he wanted was the "right place". It was the right place for him but no one else. Hopefully everyone involved reaches peace and closure one day
He wanted them to share the vision and passion and not just the success, but wanted them to be all successful. Sometimes people are afraid to be great until shown the way.
Denzel is the 🐐
@@whodat5492 you must be one of them that’s great detail
wow good perspective on the situation man
I didn’t even know Ocho left. I mean Chef Nancy was even a big part of the show for me!
He left?!
holy shit did he really? thats a shame..
Chef Nancy 🐐
Ocho better not pop up on the ops podcast!!
He ain’t leave he had his kid
This is sad. Joe and Brandon are two different cases. Joe is mature and experienced to know why his situation fell apart. The chemistry wasn’t there for a long time. You can almost say, they fell outta love. In Brandon’s situation, he was the toxic spouse. And as a result he watched his family get torn apart, and his ex is happy and doing better without him, than he even is doing. I love B Marshall. That’s why I said this is sad for all of us. He’s hurting because he knows there were things he could’ve done differently. Joe is not stressing because they just fell out of love, nothing you can do about that. It is what it is. It’s the ones that you can prevent, them the ones that hurt yknow
This is wrong Brandon put the money up they didn't it's really as simple as that
@@coachtali5151 okay still. My point is on the analogy of a marriage. Most times it’s one partner who puts everything up at the onset anyway. But not even sticking to that, the guys who left IAA most definitely got paid before exiting. And they put their time in. So I don’t know where I’m wrong
@@SOAKTV cause how is he toxic because they left. He didn't do anything wrong
@@coachtali5151 they all did it was a four way split
This analogy is off because Joe Budden has been way more toxic. Brandon never fried one then got upset the other left, he never told a cohost this podcast was “none of his business”. This is different
It’s crazy how the platform was built off of them and now it’s used against them. Truthfully, it’s hard to watch without them
I stopped watching when they left, only clicked this bc im a big Budden fan and it popped on my feed.

Doesn't seem like Brandon fully communicated his dream to everyone. Percentages change but the work and effort didn't change? Does not add up. Podcasts blew up in COVID and no one knew how to manage them as a business. Everyone needs to admit their faults and move on.
I agree!!! I get the start of the Podcast but waiting to the last minute and barley explaining will have people think different which will leave people hanging in the dark.
🎯
brandon’s admits himself that he didn’t know what he was doing. So much so that he was asking everyone he knew that did a podcast to get advice
I think Brandon OVERcommunicated. In business, you can lose people when you talk too much about your vision. I get the sense that’s part of what happened. Brandon is an emotional dude who wants everyone to win and be successful. Some view that as a weakness or weak-mindedness.
true colors in people truly shine when large amounts of money are involved as well as egos aren't checked at the door and then whomever you're surrounding yourself with, whether its friends or family or both, etc...
I understand everything they saying but the old I am athlete crew was the dream team and all of these men (speaking of the old crew) seemed emotionally mature enough to get through any difficulties they may have been facing. Hopefully someday we can see that dynamic again.
I personally like the new crew Better just like Joes situation. His new crew is more mature and actually challenge him
I agree
There’s no way to get past ownership of intellectual property.
@@MrJreed98 that's not really what I was trying to imply. More about coming to an understanding.
It wouldn’t hit the same
McCoy and Pacman are yes men.. and they know damn well the show was better with the original cast
Facts!!! Shady and Pac-Man isn’t right for a podcast the whole vibe isn’t right. They made the show worse
That don’t make them yes men. Quit insulting them Grown men. The show goes on despite how we feel. It’s a business
McCoy said that they should be grateful. That comment is crazyyy
He acting like b marsh did them a favor. Shady the one that should be grateful.
He tried to make it like B Marsh made those dudes. They all made each other. No one really knew B Marsh outside of football like that until IAA. Shady needs to stop.
I wonder how many times each of these guys were told to be “grateful” by the owners and GMs of the teams they played for and how much they loved to be told that come contract time.
Mannnnn shits crazy
It’s crazy because it wasn’t a big platform at the time because they made it that big
tell it to Shady..grateful grateful…shady shoudnt talk
Yeah, the "be grateful" comment by Shady was lame and didn't make sense. These dudes want every Million that they can get and will hold out for more money. Pretty sure they not trying to hear "be grateful" during contract time.
🎯 🎯 thank you. They think running a business requires screwing your partners over. They’re hypocrites, they sound exactly like the NFL GMs and Owners they used to criticize.
I Am Athlete exist today because of the original cast. Not to take away from Marshall’s vision and drive. There were issues in the beginning with Marshall and the other host feeling silenced by Marshall and his seemingly need to control. These things happen often and sadly this one is happening publicly. I hope they all find peace and forgiveness with much success whether separate or apart.
What r u talking about? Those are your feelings. He just told us the issues bro! IAA exist today because of B's vision, period. The original cast left because once they saw the potential money involved and wanted to change the contracts because of buyer's remorse. None of that is B's fault and none of that has anything to do with B shutting them out. He had a right to "control" because he was the majority owner. Business is business at the end of the day. If you chose an employee tract over a partnership tract that's your problem
Facts. The original cast is why I'm still here. Ocho needs to come back. And Shady is the main reason I still watch
Stop dreaming!
One person has a vision but builds a platform WITH others. You have to acknowledge their contribution AND thank them.
@@tiffanibanks7218 he had the vision … they didn’t believe in it , he gave them a chance to put the money up & become real partners , they didn’t believe so they didn’t put up money , leaving him to put all the money up & take all the risks … then once they saw how much his vision was coming to life they THEN wanted to have ownership and that’s not fair to Brandon 🤦🏽♂️ that being said … I wish Brandon could’ve just gave them a price … like “I spent X amount total … y’all need to pay me this much to make things even & THEN let’s bust the contract down split even from that point” still not fair to Brandon but at the same time giving them the respect to say my money is what built this … but also you guys talents …
I appreciated this, it threw so many gems in the beginning within my own situation. I’m glad you guys were able to put it in terms of your own and I could decipher it in my own way to understand it
I see a problem. When you sit down at the inception of a business, and those people invest, they are the set shareholders. The owners.
For Brandon Marshall to say once the podcast grew, and the percentages changed, that was his lacking business acumen speaking.
The percentages of ownership do not change, unless each of the investors sell some of their shares. If Brandon Marshall included his wife and friends that comes out of his percentage, not Fred's.
That's bad business; Toxic ideology. It feels like Brandon just tried to take over and do what he wanted within vision, regardless of what the other guys wanted.
I don't know the full story, I'm just going off of what bmarsh said here.
Bingo...you hit the nail on the head!
thats how i saw it too
swear to god I'm listening right now like how do the percentages change🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bingo, was just about to write this
🎯
Read between the lines… once it blew up Brandon wanted it all for him and his lady … and wanted them to be happy with smaller percentage
It feels like Brandon woman was quarterbacking the whole situation on the low..she seems like she's an asshole..but b marsh seems as a sweetheart but emotional at times..the wife is the puppet master I believe..but selfish covertly
Boom
That part!!!!
Even Alicia leave too
And he replaced them with people who are oblivious to the fact that they’re getting a small percentage or none at all.
Chef Nacy and the OG crew gone says it all

I supremely dislike the way "we", just really getting into big business, implement these shark tactics against each other and mask it as "just business" because that is the way we have been conditioned to behave. The fact is we don't have the network the people we "learn" from have and need to do right and build with each other. Also, the people we are looking to supposedly emulate don't mess in their own network the same way they may do business with you. There is a lot of growing to be done.
Your first sentence!!!
This was powerful.
Facts
But honestly businesses would prosper without some form of “shark tactics” that’s where the conditioning comes from. When you see business after business flourishing with said tactics your gonna pick some of them up. That build with each other sounds good. But as you said we all are just now getting there or trying to get there
I made this point countless of times. The podcast space is full of talentless wyt boys, so for 2 successful blk podcast, to blow up in that space, yet waste time attacking each other, is sad. But I think this is more about ego than race. As egos tend to ruin many businesses, in all cultures. So even tho u see it as black vs black, this situation is actually deeper than that
My gawd this was such a GREAT discussion!!! These discussions need to be had more often, early because when it comes to business we all fall into specific quadrants whether its Employee, Self employed, Business, or Investor and each think and are wired differently regardless of whats on the table. Most friends cant separate the friendship and stick strictly with the business, and additionally most people dont make good business decisions due to the fact they have never started one themselves or been apart of one. All of that needs to be considered before we start talking about ownership.
Them "grateful" comments by Shady are wild af

Shady said be grateful 😂. That’s the worst advice you can ever give another man. You should never be content in a situation you know is not right,
He was saying be grateful about the fact they have a big podcast. Cause these days, any and everyone can start up their own
Thin line. 🤷🏾♂️ a man standing up for himself should be a given.
Nah it’s not actually. Be grateful in a sense of where you started. How you started and what was gained from it. Maybe not all the benefits were gained or were given to you but you gained something in order to profit or progress. But yea if funny business was going on then nah I’ll be grateful but damn sure need mines. I get what you saying tho.
I love that y'all brothers is out here doing everything you're doing. This is building better brothers out here for the ones who listen and take it seriously. Mad love👍🏾🖤👍🏾
About time. Thanks Joe to help bring this conversation out
Shady saying be grateful is crazy. Why should they be “ GRATEFUL “ and take less for something they worked for ?
Shady comes across as immature and almost kissing up to BMarsh. What was he doing before this opportunity?
Exactly
Joe and Brandon are pretty similar.
They both had top notch podcasts and ruined them both by not doing right by their cohosts. Nobody was tuning in to hear just Joe or just Brandon. The collective is what made the shows great and now both lack that same hook that they used to have.
Ruining and then rebuilding. That is the way of life. I applaud these brothers for having the ability to show how to bounce back after you been knock down.
I really wanted to hear what Brandon had to say when asked the question on “ If they wanted to do a podcast what would you do?” He said to be honest and THEN Pac Man to save his spot interrupted. He was coat ridding this show because he knew Brandon was going to say yeah I probably would. But we will never know THANKS PAC-MAN. BRANDON MISSES THE ORIGINAL IAA CAST. Be a big man and admit it and build back relationships that truly where friendships to begin with. LIFE IS TOO SHORT 💯💯💯
Everyone wants to know…”WHERE’S OCHO?!”
He just had a new child. He's spending time with family.
I don’t understand why the new members speaking more on the subject than Brandon is tho
Yet people who know less than they do are on here painting their own narrative based on their hate for Brandon.
This is both a podcast & business behind friendships - glad I heard the struggle, doesn't sound like beef, just a series of decisions (not bad or good) & control.
I'll tune back into I Am Athlete because of Brandon's explanation. 🙏🏾
Love this eps. It was real ,raw ,and honest. Both Drew’s were amazing.

Ocho left amicably because he still calls Brandon . Ocho more then likely left for personal issues
You can support multiple platforms ! I still watch both bc they keep the top guests coming and that’s all the consumer wants ! If you actually care that much about the fallout of either party when everybody “landed” as budden said-it probably says more about you 💯
I watch em all.. like hell more channels means more content from a different perspective
Me and my friend was best friends for almost 20 years. As soon as we mixed business with the friendship and started working together, the friendship definitely faded away. We still talk sometimes, but things are just not the same.. i now understand why you keep your business separated from your personal relationships. Money is the root of everything..
That’s why you consult the most high before making decisions like that. It might sound like a good idea to YOU but that move wasn’t apart of the plan which then caused friction that should’ve never happened
I usually never comment but this was a hot mess. If Brandon really wanted to address the topic it should've been done in a different setting. One on one with Omar maybe...but not with people who were not involved. They overtalked each other jumping from point to point and the audience got absolute nothing out of it. A clickbait for sure. I've supported IAA since its inception, but this was it for me ✌🏽

I agree and tbh I think bmarsh feels the same DJ just making it seem like that but if you ask Brandon he wants those guys to do well too and so do they for him. I don’t know how off camera they operated but on camera the impression I got is that they were all doing it as friends then money came into the picture and we all know that changes people

I would like to know how the "break-up" effected the wives relationships and how they feel about it, because they were taking off as well?? I beleive IAA was on its way to becoming an empire.
Great point
Tbh, the wives podcast of IAA was part of the problem. Brandon did entirely too much branching out way too quickly. If he wanted to do an IAA for the women, that was fine but then, he did an I Am NASCAR, an IAALA. It was way too much way too soon. Should of just continued to build on your core audience, THEN branch out to more opportunities
Who cares about the wives?

Great episode!
Joe explained with a great analogy and that he was wrong
They all were wrong, None of them wanted to go Joe's route on his show.
Hell yeah he was wrong Mal and Rory just wanted what they we're owed at the end of the day. I think what killed the pod was when Joe tried to snake Rory thinking Mal would be onboard but he wasn't.
Man.. go watch the breakfast club joint, they made it clear. It was about the treatment and how he talk down to them. Men have to respect each other. Chad made it clear
"good business or bad business your not going to disrespect me."
Also… As a 4th generation entrepreneur, I felt what Brandon and Joe were saying… it was spot on. But the reason neither Brandon or Joe talked about their break up situations previously, is because no matter how much they addresses the issue, it’s not going to make sense to everyone. We (the audience) are being let in on what should be a private conversation or “locker room talk” like they used to talk about. Business is messssssssy. It’s messy because you’re creating something out of nothing and hoping and praying and working hard so that it’s successful. You have people (staff) leaning on you and depending on you to be successful. You have an audience and fans, etc. It’s hella pressure. If you’ve never been in the situation, you won’t understand. You just can’t understand because building a company is not just about logic and following a plan. It does require emotion and an understanding of your “why” which is what you must always come back to.
I TOTALLY AGREE ‼️‼️
Yes! This should be pinned. Business is messy. People need to take the emotions out of money.
So true!! Best comment
Been there done that....The private conversations are just that PRIVATE!!!!!!!!
I think everybody wanted a piece of the pie and to get what they put in....but with that comes patience and trust which started to disappear with the original cast of IAA....i remember when Marsh went to NASCAR for a min...some of us as fans had an issue with it but he was trying to expand the brand and not stay on dimensional.....like Marsh said I think there was to much communication at times....and not enough other times. Plus if everyone invested equal amounts to get the ball rolling...then they also feel they should have equal say so and input which can be very difficult at times.....hated to see this break up man but I wish them all the best
This is grown man talk that is needed more of. Salute to Joe Budden, Brandon Marshall and everything involved in this.
Agreed

@@whodat5492 I'm talking about the convo, not what was done before. It's ok to reevaluate a situation and reflect on it like what is done here. To each their own though.

I am athlete ain’t the same anymore, I used to tune in all the time.
Brandon takes no accountability lol
great content!💯
Classic problem for us as a ppl. We try to unify without understanding rank and order. And importantly conflict resolution.
Shady telling people to be grateful was a bit much….you weren’t there you don’t know what happened. Respect the situation and try not to be so biased
They broke up that’s what happened. Everybody knows that. And he def know more than you he said what’s own his heart
@@whodat5492 okay shady a millionaire wakes up everyday a millionaire but my opinion matters. He never said he wasn’t grateful he said we need to learn that word lol now chill.
This one peeled the curtain back a lil bit but Shady was off base with that 'be grateful' comment. Those guys built IAA together. None of that back office and investment stuff would've mattered if the front facing side wasn't dope.
Facts. That rubbed me the wrong way too
Nooo they didn’t Brandon invested all money while they didn’t
@@demontedudley9607 some invested money, some sweat equity. I assure you IAA doesn't blow up without all 4 guys. That has a valuation which unfortunately differs from person to person
@@TeeWord I assure you it doesn’t come out period without Brandon investing HIS 11M they didn’t put anything in to start the business but want equities? Make that make sense that’s not how business works
@@demontedudley9607 Brandon didn't put 11m into the show, 10m+ went to House of Athlete. Plus Fred and Channing literally put out a show without Brandon that is more successful. Which proves my point and debunk yours.
Love this episode
