    Let’s be totally clear: there’s no such thing as singing with an open throat
    Have you seen the diagrams? There’s your larynx, pharynx tongue, teeth
    I know this sounds crazy, but actually a lot of what makes you sound like you are the things that close your throat and “get in the way” of the sound waves you create in your vocal cords
    But that doesn’t change the fact that most people “feel” that when they’re singing well, they have the feeling of having an open throat
    So let’s talk about what actually creates that open throat feeling and how you can find it every time
    In my experience, there are two times when people feel that they’re singing with an open throat
    By far, the most popular is when someone starts to sing with more cord closure for the first time
    The vocal cords are just folds of cartilage and other tissues. They open when you breathe. They come together and vibrate against each other against the air from your lungs.
    But when you’re singing too breathy makes your voice feel tight-opposite of open throat
    Instead of that, singing with an open throat is the feeling of cord closure
    3T Ae
    3T ee
    3T Gug
    Remember that just because you feel that your throat is open, doesn’t mean that it actually is
    And who ever said that singing with an open throat was a good thing anyway?
    The most important thing no matter where you are is that it feels good when you sing and you’re able to sound the way you want to

    @MarianMusic1 Před 3 lety +11

    After watching thousands videos you are talking the real truth. There's a tons of confusing info on CZcams. In my opinion the key to find a good sound is sustaining air pressure with diaphragm support, balancing the larynx, using aryepiglottic fold, arytenoid muscles , and balancing the soft palate in order to reach the correct vocal cords closure. The good thing of thinking in "open throat" is that helps to avoid straining in my opinion, but I agree with you there is only a feeling. Searching always a "crying and yawning" sound helps a lot because a lot of people tend to sing with cricoid muscles ( that strains ) instead of arytenoid ones, and they don't know which muscles they are using. Then the next key step is to master the vowel changes, specially from/to the "e" Vowell. But nobody talks about correct larynx/tongue set up for Vowell changes and I think is the key. Would love to watch a video with your opinion about mastering vowel changes, and also your comments about my thoughts. Thanks for all.

      @ramseyvoicestudio  Před 2 lety

      Totally agree Marian. Thanks for your lovely comment. My one thought is that, it's one thing to tell a singer to use their thyroarytenoid more, to which many will say "huh?". It's another to have them do an exercise that actually engages the TA more. So as teachers, it's helpful to know the ingredients to a better voice. But putting it into a recipe for other singers to follow is the challenge.
