    So I started singing relatively late (11th Grade in HS), our school's Choir Teacher was also the assistant band director, well I played Sax in band and sometimes I'd sing a little to myself on my way to class not really thinking too much about it, and my band director overheard me singing and begged me to join choir - I thought he was crazy, I thought... "I can't sing... why would I embarrass myself like that?!" Well needless to say with a bit of coaching and confidence I managed to make All State in choir, and State in solo/ensemble for choir which I would have never managed to accomplish with sax... he showed me your channel and since then I've been OBSESSED! Thanks Ken, you changed my musical life!

      +Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy I just made a comment about your tongue on another video where you sang Chaka Khan. I am so fascinated about how and why it flattens out and gets rounded. I think this video helps me understand. I think it is your vowel sounds and the different ranges that you sing in. Should I be more aware of what my tongue is doing at different intervals of my range? Thanks for your time =)

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  Před 8 lety +12

      +Kelly Repp - Kelly, you are right. The rounded version is the final stage of the most relaxed position of the tongue during singing. I even can form some consonants with the back of my throat and tongue while the throat remains open. You are very observant! : - )

      Yes Ken I am absolutely learning from these videos thank you so much! I do have a little question though, when moving up my range to get into higher notes, sometimes i lose all sound. Like just breath is coming out but no sound. Is this a limit to my voice? Or am i doing something wrong that is causing that?

  • @iggibee
    @iggibee Před 4 lety +15

    You’re awesome! I don’t sing professionally or anything, just for fun, but you once said something about anticipation of high notes creating tension and that’s why you struggle, so I started to relax and I can feel a difference! I sang multiple times recently in a day without my voice hurting or going hoarse! So much respect for you man :)

  • @mcrchickenluvr
    @mcrchickenluvr Před 8 lety +44

    I took class voice for 3 years when I was in college. One thing I remember my teacher telling us to look like we're always happy or surprised. That way the muscles in the face are nice and relaxed as well as the throat muscles. Mine still get tired when I've been going for 2+hours in plays or musicals. But it does help.

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  Před 8 lety +19

      +mcrchickenluvr - mrchickeluvr, you will see me making a smiley face at my students when I do skype lessons. That is because that facial posture encourages openness at the back of the throat and helps to raise the soft palate. It's just one of many, many things that add together to improve vocal sound and health.

I’ve been singing my entire life and I’m just getting really stressed at the fact I close my throat when I get higher and I really want to learn that and to have some exercises to practice everyday to fix this problem. Thanks for your kind words, Proud Foot! There is a lot of information in my CZcams Videos, and it did take a lot of time, effort, and some wrong turns before I was able to sort out what works from what does not. Now that I've done that work, it seems logical for people to take what I share and put it to good use. There is a ton more information of this quality that is the core of my course. :-)

I’ve never had voice lessons in person (hope to find a good one in my area soon) and thus I knew nothing about singing. Thank you very much I meet you tonight.
    I sing since I6 and rarely when I was a child, but many people know since then I have a good tune in singing. I dreamed to have a voice lesson before but was not able to accomplish. Never able to study or learn those. It's comes in my mind often and felt sigh when I remember I never been experience it.
    Just tonight I've watch 2 of your videos and Thank God I meet you.
    starting tomorrow I will watch your videos and share to my messenger those important and hard to remember. This will be my goal now.
    God bless you and keep you safe from harm. My prayer for you. 0052HH now. Thanks so much.

      It's nice to meet you, too, Divina! I hope you learn a lot from my videos! I have over 400 videos with free information in them. That should give your voice a boost!
